There isn't enough Beam Rifle love!
Beam Blaster has very high ST damage and the mini nuke is very good. I like it.
But I no longer play him much because I combo it with Beam/Fire and I really don't like /fire.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
I remade my original AR/Dev blaster on Exalted when it first opened up and made him Beam Rifle/Devices.
While I do like the new guns and sounds it just doesn't fit the concept of my old blaster character. I should have made a more futuristic looking character and would probably have more fun with it. Perhaps an ex-Clockwork from Praetoria that escaped to Primal Earth to be a hero and eventually take down all the praetorian arch villains.

Just rolled up a Beam/Energy blaster, absolutely loving it. Level 27 and rising fast, plenty of pew pew.
I also made a Beam/Energy and have him to 38.
I find it is extremely obvious when I start hitting the AV's. I had Clamor down a full 25% before the rest of the team got to the fight. Disintegrate really does melt single hard targets.
I think Beam Rifle is the only Blaster primary that could solo GM's without /Mental as a secondary so I guess it gets props for that alone. Unfortunately, /Ment does exist and so there's really no non-concept reason to play BR from a pure numbers perspective since the AOE isn't there. It's kind of a one-trick pony. I guess the crashless nuke is nice but ROA trivializes it in comparison.
Oddly enough I have been looking around and have only seen maybe 2 or 3 beam rifles at incarnate trials. I just don't see many on anymore. Personally I have one myself ( Beam Energy ) at 50 with incarnates and its decent. I have had more success with him in PvP then I have had with other toons. I think as some mentioned once you get to a key point you notice that the single target DPS is nice but not the best. You pretty much notice at some point that the AOEs either work or don't as it is related to the spread.
To be honest I have him at 50 and fully T4 Incarnates but he is pretty much just sitting around. I take him out once and a while for a spin.

I love playing it on Blasters more than Corrs...so I might delete my BR/Traps and keeping playing my BR/Devices. Scourge is funky mixed with BR...Defiance works much better. I might make a BR/Energy as well but I like mitigation...I guess a BR/Nrgy would just focus on Big nasty bosses and no huge mobs.
Got one on a Defender. Love it.
Have a beam/em also. Recently, and finally, setted him out and started doing trials/da stuff. It is really nice damage, and having a stun tacked onto your main blast is great.
I also found the damage in trials VERY consistent, vs pretty much everything. I was comparing this (as much as you can really) with my sonic blaster, whose attacks felt weaker in trails, even with the -res. Of course, it could be due to beams attacks just being higher..the dual nature of sonic attacks, or the smashing being resisted..
In regard to the Nuke being trivial compared to RoA..rubbish. Maybe the rech is not as good, but it is still up every second spawn easily, does not take 5 days to actually fire, and comes with a mag 3 stun and -def. Oh and it isnt lollethal damage.
My 'problem' with Beam, and I have said this in a few different threads, is that it seems to play..laggy. Or delayed perhaps. Not sure how else to explain it..but the damage seems to land right at teh very very veeeeery end of the attack. I semi-compare it to my DP blaster, who has longer animations on some attacks..but 'feels' faster.. Of course..it could totally just be my perceptions.

I have found that playing Beam Rifle seems to attract the attention of that "helpful" sort who wants you to know how much better other sets are in comparison. It's kinda "stop liking what I don't like!" if you know what I mean. I see that happens even in threads, people gotta tell you how much better their pet blast set is than the one you chose to play. I get that numbers-wise, maybe Archery is better, but then I have to dance around like a prat with a bow shooting sticks at people and no amount of OPness is worth that.
hehe. sticks.
Beam looks plenty fun, but there's always something better to buy it seems like.
perma jump is ---> /up 1

I believe you. I managed to pseudo-solo sorceress serene with my beam/dark blaster (Diabolique was there) at level 25 with basic invention enhancements. This currently holds the record for me for lowest level AV solo.
Anyway, I love the beam rifle, however I'm only meh with /dark. The rifle wants to fight at a distance, /dark wants to be up close, and the two don't really mix.

They should have made that spread ability just an inherit part of the powers and not linked to Disintegrate. If anything Disintegrate should have made it auto spread or the next attack after it 100% spread for X amount of seconds.
Its a power set that seemed to come on strong and then just fizzle out.

You want to giggle while playing a Beamer? Fight some Freakshow, they just love energy damage. Pew pew pew!
Disintegration. Not a pretty way to get "arrested".
The Bacon Compels You.
Just got my BR/Time manipulation to 50 and hitting up the incarnate trials. My toon is a Corruptor, so you pair Scourge with disintegrate and it's a lovely combo.
NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.
Now I want to make a Beam/Mental Blaster...hrmmz
Secondary effects are nice and everything, but you don't judge how good a christmas present is because of how much you like the wrapping. The whole point of Nukes is to do damage, and Overcharge has more than twice the base Recharge of RoA. Even with the better DPA, I would estimate that RoA does around three times the damage over the course of a mission than Overcharge does.

Not everyone likes archery. Not everyone wants to play a power set that basically has 2 decent attacks, one being a OP nuke that somehow got an awesome recharge. If the whole point of nukes is doing damage, as you say..then Overcharge doing MORE damage, makes it..you know..more damaging. Of course then you have to bring in the damage over an entire mission, since that is so related to the pure damage of a nuke..not. Nevermind that unless your archery blaster is dead set first to a new spawn every time, and you manage to Q up RoA, wait the 5 days, then have it land, in tics, a good portion of the 'damage' required to kill said spawn will have already been done.
Also..maybe consider that the thread was about BR, and people who like it. Coming in and comparing it to ONE power in archery, as a case to not use it, is just pointless.
I'm looking into making a Beam toon but would rather avoid going Blaster. I'm not voerly fond of the AT and try to avoid sets repeats as much as possible which leaves me with, well devices. While it would make sense, it's still 'loldevices', a set I would look at pairing with Dual Pistols for a concept first and foremost.
How is the damage of Beam Rifle on a defender (or corr I guess)? And would pairing it with Storm or Cold alleviate any kind of difference somewhat?
@Viper Kinji
Currently working on:
Turtle Snapper - SD/MA/Ice Tanker
I don't see many non-melee weapon sets around at all, not just Beam Rifle (Which I have NEVER seen).
They really need to make a matching secondary that uses the same weapons and thus eliminates redraw if they want them to be more popular (Or just eliminate redraw).
Releasing Beam Weapon Manipulation for free would have quite a few people spending points on the blast part.
As for Archery you have to be a good few seconds ahead of the pack to get any use out of it (And if there are any shield scrappers in the pack you will not be first), and I hate being stuck in an animation for that long. Judgement nukes also step on RoA's toes and make for even more wasted damage.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!

Might try and use one of my transfers to get her across to another server. I like the combo and the set, I just have too many wretched alts at the moment (and rolled a new one last night)
I feel that a Blaster gets the most out of the Set...then second would be a Corr. I think Defiance really synergizes well with BR ST nature.

My logic was "If I do less damage then I'll have more shots and hence more disintegration spread to make up the difference!". lthough I'm not sure logic is the right word...
It does a lot of single target damage, it has great sound effects, and I love the different beam gun models. It may not be the best set for aoe but it has surprised me. I love the gun sets anyway!
Since it doesn't get that much love, Beam Rifle this bud is for you!
