Ignore

You can't TELL US what to ignore!!!

Hehe, this place could use a bit more silliness (of the fun loving kind... not the ridiculously serious kind).

Here, this will get people to do whatever you want them to:

I've only got 2 folks on ignore here on the forums, and it required them being outrageously obnoxious.

In-game it's a lil hard at this point to tell who is a gold farmer and who I set to ignore. Not that many, again it requires someone being either very obnoxious or just a complete social retard to get me to block them. Fortunately few and far between.

I've never used the forums ignore feature (my brain has had a good enough one so far).
In-game it has only ever been used for spammers (and for the Newsy NPC, but that doesn't work!).

My forum ignore list got emptied on purpose like my ingame gignore list did. I think I had a max of 6 people on the forum ignore list at one time, and wasn't one of them.

I haven't put anyone on it since, but I can mentally ignore their posts or just gloss over them if I see them.

I do have an add-on for Firefox that made it much easier to ignore people in that I didn't even see that they posted and it removed their text if people quoted them. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with anything past 3.6.xx so I've held off updating Firefox here at home.

It may be time to go ahead and upgrade and forget about FFvB not being compatible.

EDIT: Similar to what Agent White said, 2 of those that made my forum ignore list in the past were extremely obnoxious. Four were put on it due to getting rude and needlessly abusive to posters trying to help them in the Technical Issue Bugs forum section. Most things, I just skip reading their posts.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Sometimes I think I'm being ignored, but then if I say something offensive suddenly everyone and their grandmother is paying attention to me. It's not a good habit to reinforce...

As far as the forums go, I only have one person on ignore. That person hasn't posted in this forum for awhile, so it seems that my problem has solved itself. In-game, I have at least three dozen people on ignore. It isn't as much as you'd think, since nearly all of them were bots that would spam cash for inf ads. I do have anger issues, though, so my rampant use of the ignore button is for everyone's benefit.

... and I really should enforce it more. About month ago I was forming a +4 LRSF from HELL, and someone wanted to join who was on my ignore list. After talking through another person, I just removed them from my ignore list and they joined up. If it is who I think it is, that person just ticked me off later... I have found only one person in-game who has me on their ignore list. It usually isn't an issue, since the people who ignore me are hardly ever relevant to any events that happen in the game.

I don't generally use Ignore features on forums. I figure I'm probably on a few lists myself, though, despite the fact that I'm fairly harmless. I have (or have had) a tendency to stubbornly try to get the last word in, which some probably find tedious (one of many tedious traits, I'm sure some are thinking). I've been trying to curb this habit, at least, by pretending I got the last word in when I've said as much as I feel I needed to say and not revisiting whichever thread I'm starting to argue in circles with Fo... er, someone.

In-game, I only use it for the ad-spammers.

See I've actually come up with a diabolical plan that capitalizes on these concepts. You install the red button in a heavy traffic area, label it do not press. Obviously this results in massive presses of the button.

Every time the button gets pressed a side panel opens up showing how many times the button has been pressed. What makes this diabolical is each press charges up the super weapon.

The best part, it will probably be the heroes that cause the final charge up.

Crossing my fingers hoping not to be on your do-not-read list, could you elaborate on this particular addon? Given my use of ignore features on forums, this could just be the Holy Grail I'm looking for.

I could elaborate on it, but since it doesn't work with anything after Firefox 3.6.xx it's getting a bit useless.

FFvB is a vBulletin management tool for Firefox. It has several nice features such as a full ignore function (doesn't even show the person has posted, doesn't show their post if they are quoted, etc.), thread ignore functions, highlight users, ignore avatar (instead of having to block all from a specific site, all avatars, etc), ignore signatures (similar to ignore avatar reasons), highlight threads, keyword searches, and more.

Unfortunately, it is no longer being updated and doesn't work with FF 4.x or higher. and I can no longer find a place to download the extension.

EDIT: There is a greasemonkey script I found that I'm going to try out. If it works for the ignore function, I'll post about it here. If it doesn't work, I won't comment on it.

Thanks! I still use Firefox 3.6.xx and plan to hold off upgrading for as long as possible (they lost me as early as Firefox 4 with that new UI, as a computer idiot I simply don't have time to get used to changes on basic functionality), so this should come in handy. Looks like I got some research to do.

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

heheh...I feel the same way sometimes..

Even on the forums; there's a nice discussion going on, I post and then bam...no one posts after me...it's like I checked the "thread closed" checkbox when I replied or something.

But I have no one on ignore on the forums and a full list in-game (all gold spammers).

^That's just the threadslayer curse.

Anyway, I don't think it would be too bad being on someone's ignore list on the forums. It lets you correct them for the public to see while not having to put up with their nonsense that normally follows.

LOL you are bad.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

mmm...I admire the clever fiendishness of your diabolical plan...*presses the button once more for good measure*

Hehehe, there was a great thread on these forums that someone started by saying that they always kill threads by posting in them. And it became a nonstop series of replies to never let that thread die.
What is odd is... I found that thread and read through it back before I ever started playing this game.
I used to play another game in a galaxy far far away, but I'd occasionally check the Dev tracker for CoH forums, because I often found it as funny and entertaining as informative, heh.
