Why do you want new powersets?

#3

I want a card throwing set so I can have my final dream character Card/Time Corrupter.

They already did my other dream sets : Dual Pistols, Time Manipulation and Staff Melee.

I'd like different animations though for some power sets, such as melee. So maybe a revamp on older powers to keep them polished and not out-shined by the new powers.

This I agree with. One of CoX's greatest strengths is variety. What is better than variety? MORE variety!

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

I'd like a speedster set for melee. Super fast punches, whirlwind, etc.

I will be that guy and say that while i like the new powersets. I'd love to see them take a bit of a breather and concentrate art resources on getting us alt animations for most elemental melee sets, broadsword, app/patrons and pools. as well as some new emination points for projectiles from powersets and lore incarnate powers...hands, mouths, heads and perhaps getting us the possibilities of things like wands(especially the COL ones), ray-guns and maybe electric guitars for sonic blast would allow a lot of thematic breadth in an area that is under-served currently. and yes, more martial arts alt animations that look less like street fighting, since that has its own set now, and more like actual martial arts.

new sets are cool when they can mechanically be justified, but a few alt animations can liven up existing sets to be just about new.

As a Support set, it doesn't feel much like a Control set to me. It certainly doesn't put me in the mind of my Gravity Controller. I could maybe see it seeming like the child of Ice Control and Dark Miasma. If I squinted at it through a half-bottle of Scotch.

The bottle would have to be empty for the AoE whompus of Titan Weapons to seem like a minor mechanical difference to me.

Really? I buy new stuff when the old stuff breaks. Like the new car I got last year... old one had been having a lot of troubles and the repair bills were adding up. And I'm still on my first cell phone, which I will have had for 4 years next month... though it's a Razor model, and the flip hinge is showing significant wear, so I'm sure that'll be replaced within the next 6 months.

Or, of course, I'll buy stuff when the old stuff is no longer supported. Got an Xbox 360 a few months after it came out, as the release schedule of games for the original was trickling down to nothing of interest or importance and, of course, Dead Rising had just come out for the new system. >_>

I generally don't buy new power sets because they're "new and shiny." I bought Beam Rifle because it was on sale (and promptly never used it) and Street Justice because it's the best power set EVER and fits a lot of concepts that I was previously unable to satisfactorily fulfill. I still haven't gotten Titan Weapons, and I don't really plan to until it goes on sale or I get a really good idea for a new character.

I will be picking up Staff Fighting as soon as it's released, but Beast Mastery will probably wait until it goes on sale (though it is higher in my interest queue than either Titan Weapons or Beam Rifle). I'll also be getting plenty of use out of Dark Control on my new Dark/Dark Controller, which will be included in my subscription costs.

As far as the OP's questions, I'd say I fall under #3 and #6. I want specific new power sets that follow themes that aren't as explored as others...

We could use some more psychic power sets for melee and buff/debuff characters.

We could also explore some new areas. I know the devs were hesitant to do so in the past, but I think now's a good time to start thinking about water sets for blast, control and buff/debuff characters.

I just like having new stuff in the game. Even if I am not the one actually playing the set.

I mean, just ending up on a team with people playing Titan Weapons or other stuff changes gameplay for me somewhat. And even though I'm not the hugest fan of trials all the time, seeing 24 players with completly unique builds, then jumping on another trial and more or less seeing 24 more unique builds, is something I haven't witnessed in a MMO basically ever. CoH may have its flavors of the month, but compared to every other MMO really does encourage experimentation.

im still waiting for the new/somewhat old-new power sets to get made into the Ancillary Pools.

My Psi blaster sure would like his themed set to be fisnihed with a lil Willpower/Psi Defense/Resist.

I've played every combo that I wish to play at this point. If there were never another powerset created, I would never create another alt.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I go with #6. I like the idea of playing a dark/dark controller. But really I want to try characters that feel different.
Going to say that, in my case, in order of rank descending: 3, 2, 7.

For me, 'other' in this case means I have specific requests of powerset proliferation that, if done, would allow me to build characters I've been waiting to build for some time. In the case of 2, I'm also getting burnt out on attack powersets for melee, and think it's about time we got a new armour powerset or two.

All of which comes under the heading of 3, more or less. Hence why, for me, that's primarily my reason for wanting more powersets...

That's a good point.

One of the things I really like about CoX is that teams are different. It is not a generic tanker, healer, dps. Having a kin on the team is totally different than a bubbler. The different powersets matter even if the other players have them.

New powersets means new concepts open up, old concepts are made what they should have been all along, and it broadens our toolset for creating our characters exactly as they were meant to be. For me, City of Heroes has never been about good or bad, cool or stupid, strong or weak. It's always been about one thing and one thing only - how close can I get to what's inside my head? The closer I can get, the better the result is, and the more tools we have to work with, the closer we can get.

*edit*
More specifically, though, I'm always looking for new stuff that's unlike anything we've had before. Redundant stuff is cool for improving the finer points of fine-tuning a concept, but breaking new ground opens entire new avenues of possibility which were never even conceivable before.

Familiarity breeds contempt - personally I'd love to see new powersets that complete 'thematic' proliferation - the way fire/thermal trollers and ice/cold trollers were rolled out.
