Saying Goodbye to Statesman...

Confronting Darrin Wade was ultimately a hard won battle that resulted in a great and terrible loss for us all. And while my teammates and I were just too dumbstricken for words at the passing of our great and fearless leader, somehow we found the strength to carry on and were able to give the world's greatest Statesman a memorable send-off that we shall remember for all time...





So... how did you say goodbye to Statesman? (Screenshots highly appreciated!)

How else could I do it?

yes, the actual name of said salute used was somewhat ironic, but it still looked the closest.

i dont have any screenshots of statesman death poses, but i doubt mine would be any good anyway since i would be posting the villainous side of seeing statesman go lol

everytime i play that arc i keep asking why couldnt i be the one to kill statesman, and that makes me at darrin wade for stealing my thunder lol

I so wanted to kill Darwin too D: but I don't think I could of killed states outside of rsf.

I'm still very upset that I wasn't the one to kill him.

Man, my character was pretty jaded, I think he was more concerned about the danger of Wade's rapid rise in power and that he might absorb Rularru more than the death of Statesman.

Years ago my namesake Captain-Electric was sort of "cursed" with a permanent sense of optimism after his science accident, so he doesn't often experience misery, but even he was grief stricken.

After a bit of fruitless attempts at revival... and shouting and yelling at the sky... and swearing murderous revenge... a psychic team member confirmed that Statesman's spirit hadn't hung around for long, instead choosing to depart this world only moments before they all arrived on the rain-drenched platform. After a long silence, save for the sound of rain, the eight of them--Captain-Electric, and seven members of the Union Supreme--came to their senses and committed to filling Statesman's shoes and upholding his principles--



"...to hold the line," they all agreed, nodding at one another; but the team lead, a commander of the Union Supreme and close friend to Captain-Electric for the past year, still reeled from the event. He stumbled up and through the mud, away from the group. Seeing the circle broken, Cap stopped him in his tracks, accepting an invitation given several times in the past: "We're going to need help; lots of help. And all of us are going to need to help each other. I came to Paragon with a singular cause, and have remained singular in my pursuit of it. But my super villain dad isn't the only great threat to our existence, and I'm ready to start behaving like it. I'm ready to join up."

His friend straightened tall, and trudged slowly back into the circle. A brief vote was held in the rain. Captain-Electric had made many allies over the years, was an honorary member of several super groups, appeared in comic books, had even seen a sidekick grow up and away from him. But he had never formally embraced a group, a community.

He was unanimously accepted into the Union Supreme.

All wished it could have been under more ceremonious circumstances; but Cap made no decision lightly; he'd never have joined up on a bright and sunny day, when all seemed right with the world.

After loading the body onto the Union Supreme jet, one member of the team planted his shield in the ground where Statesman had fallen, and laser-engraved a "last stand" message on it. Captain-Electric used his powers to solder it permanently to the earth and stone, sending a great arc of lightning both into the ground, and skyward... and thereby sending a message in secret to a far-away demigod construct, an ally among allies: "The proverbial crap has hit the fan, please send help! And be here in time for next Tuesday's RP night!"

As they all turned to leave, Cap took off his cape, draped it over the memorial shield, and left it there to soak in the rain, and disintegrate in time.

That's actually my title by the way--

Hearing a mighty ruckus from outside, John Bones Henry bursts through the door, not knowin what to expect on the other side.

Seein the lifeless body of Paragon's truest hero, Henry knows what has to be done.

"WADE!"

Darrin Wade looks at him coolly, his cheeks stretching like arms into a smile like the cat that ate the canary.

"You've come at last. How does it feel to be rendered obsolete twice? First by the steam shovel, and now by your precious hero's powers being absorbed into my own?"

Flying into a rage, John attacks Darrin. A scuffle takes place on the platform, though it is clear that Darrin is holding back.

"In time," he says, "all will come to know the extent of my power. And nothing you have can stop me. Now play with this."

Darrin Wade disappears into the aether while an aspect of Ruladak appears in his place, attacking immediately. Henry picks up his mighty hammer and says

"No."

"No."

"NO! Last I checked, I got a choice. Last I checked. . .I got hands! Just like Positron, Sister Psyche, Pyrocitic One, Face of the Beast, Elauria, Operative 120988, Fizzbin, Omnibrute2 and every single hero in this world got hands!"

Ruladak began to buckle from strike after strike, unable to break John Henry's will even with the mightiest of his strikes.

"AND AIN'T NO STEAM SHOVEL, NO EVIL, NO MONSTER CAN MATCH THE FURY THAT POURS OUTTA THEM PALMS! I GOT HANDS!"

With a titanic smash of his hammer, his own armor buckling from the sheer force of his blows, Ruladak began to unravel, Wade's voice in the background.

"Perhaps I should have gone back and researched ways to kill past versions of you off!"

Thoroughly outmatched, the aspect began to fade from this plain of existence, as John approached Statesman's lifeless body. Henry picked up his hammer and shattered a stone lying next to the corpse.

"These rocks ain't never been shackles. Just a bunch of dust that didn't know to part ways when it sees our footsteps. The fight never ends. Not now, not ever. And just so you know, Wade. . .I beat that steam shovel."

Seeing through the eyes of the fading aspect, Darrin Wade stares as Henry leaves his hammer in tribute.

Silent, like they could smell the rain coming.

Even the Rikti have been affected by Stateman's death.
