Things the Paragon Market *really* needs.

(Preemptive Mea Culpa: I'm not searching for a similar thread. Sorry. I am teh suction. I wanted to say these things, so I'm gonna say it. Post the link to the 'real' thread where these are listed, and that'd be great, if you're so inclined. If I'm the first, well, aaawwwriiight.. )

I had a wild hair (they are getting rarer and rarer though as I lose them) and decided to buy some things. I'm not a *huge* shopper, but I figured that New Year's pack is pretty nifty, and I probably should go ahead and get the Titan Weapons... because? Well, to be honest, I didn't really have much interest, but maybe I'll play about with it.

Well, I had purchased enough Paragon Points to achieve the Tier 9 VIP in the Paragon Rewards, so I have a few points lyin' about burnin' a hole in my virtual pants pocket.

I also wanted, on a lark, the Praetorian salute. I pick the three out, go to check out, and... Well... that "amount requested" thing shows up, and I'm all confused. Like this: o.0

So I do a bit of googling and figure out what the issue is (I already have the salute, I guess.) I remove it, re-add the Titan Weapons (I'd deleted it first... ) and then the TW and NYP go through and I can have huge weapons and shoot fireworks. Yay and stuff.

---

That's all not terribly important, honest, I just wanted to talk story a lil' bit. BUT... after the experience of trying to shop on the thing, I have come to these obvious needs:

1) Tell us what we do or do not have. The account info is there, the thing obviously knows if I have this or that. How hard it is to then pre-load that info, and strip out or gray out the ones that I can't buy anymore?

2) It is *really* disappointing that to know what's in a pack or how such and such an emote or costume piece really looks like... I have to switch to Google and look it up that way. Co* has a website, and/or board from which these things can be disseminated, and should. Keep it 'in house', so to speak.

3) The < 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 > thing at the bottom needs to *stay* at the bottom. It's numbers can change, but the whole interface needs to be anchored so one doesn't have to move the mouse up to get the < or something when there are only 1 or 2 items in the four item list.

Small annoyances, to be sure, and I admit this freely. Still, I think they need to be in there.

/Thanks for readin'!

Add to that the new items tab should actually, you know, display the NEW items.

Honestly, I think they should get a human interface design consultant in to scrub their store interface for a day.

The store interface is going to be the source of a large portion of their sales; there's absolutely no reason it should be this clunky. I'll claim that's a Rule: It must not be hard to buy your stuff.

Fixed for great justice. There are very few UI introductions in the last couple years that are well designed.

We know. This has been complained about for a long time.

Go to Paragonwiki.com. That's what everyone else does. The game even tells you about the site in one of the loading screen tips.

I think they're outsourcing them to Portal Corp, who are in turn subcontracting to another dimension. There's probably a parallel earth where those are the pinnacle of UI design.

(There are an infinite number of parallel Earths, right?)

I don't think the UI is that bad, I like coh UI alot more than the UI in many other games, but the history of changes to it arent great as you said.

I agree. It would be nice if the "buy" buttons would be greyed out and replaced with the words "already purchased". Especially when you only purchase 1 or 2 of say, the salvage inventory slot upgrades. Because later when you go to purchase the others you might not remember if you even bought any of them. So you have to add and try to buy them 1 at a time until it doesn't give you the error that you exceeded the maximum amount and can purchase it. I've played Guild Wars off and on for over 5 years and when you log into that game and go to the in-game store, items you purchased have the "buy" button removed and it is replaced with red text that says "Already Purchased". So I'm sure they can find a way to implement this feature.

I also agree that things that are no longer new, such as Street Justice and the Volcanic Aura, should not be in the Paragon Picks>New category. I have been playing since I believe September 29, a couple days or so after the game went free-to-play, and some items in the New category have been there since at least that time. They should only be in the New category for say, 1-2 months at most perhaps.

Technically there's 3 states that you could be in:

1) Don't own it, must be purchased to use (Holiday pack, extra costume slots, etc)
2) Own it, but only because you're a VIP (Signature Story Arcs, Alignment content)
3) Own it outright because you purchased it on the market/got it from a serial code

Plus there's all the various ways you might have unlocked something...

So while I agree that the market not knowing what you own is kind of amateur hour, I do appreciate why it is probably a pain in the rear to code it, particularly with all the legacy, pre-market unlocking stuff they have to track. It's not "would be nice" though, it's "this feature is not complete until".

Couldn't agree more with the OP's criticism points.

I'm also 100% with the 'get somebody to do their UI's that has actually heard the
terms "ergonomic" and "process flow" and knows what they mean' crowd - By and
large, most of their UI's are terribad.

OP's point #2 *really* bugs me.

Despite Ironblade's workaround - it's simply stupid business.

If I walk into a store that's touting a potentially appealing item and they can't
actually show it to me - guess what? NO SALE.

If their answer to their own advertisments is "Google It" - NO SALE

In a digital market where they're trying to sell me some shiny pixels and a description,
if they can't be bothered to actually show it to me along with some detail information
at (potential) purchase time - they can cram it... NO SALE.

Unsurprisingly, there have been several things that I've considered buying, but
their complete inability to provide enough info to make an informed decision = NO SALE.

At this point, I don't even look at the Paragon Market at all any more...

I'd imagine it would be in their best business interests to try and alter that,
<shrug> or not...

^ That's what I was talking about, re: point 2. It is an irritant, much like a fly that just won't go away.

"NEW" is too vague ... I want them to list the month and year it was added. example: "added Oct 2011" Then I can ask myself. When was the last time I looked at the market. LOL

Agreed with I wanna see what I'm buying ... powers look like, etc.

The UIs have been pants since the new 'better' market revamp. Sure, it killed off all the lag...it also mostly killed my already waning interest in the auction house.
Everything since then has just been part of the spiral...

1) If it is something you can purchase multiple times, of course the market would still allow you to buy it. During the holiday you can sometimes unlock costume pieces in game but only for a single character. If you want it all for free on all characters that is a lot of work. The winter holiday pack in the shop was more of a convenience so people didn't have to do all that extra work on all of their characters and were able to enjoy the event obtaining only what they really wanted on their characters like badges or powers. Since items in the market like the winter holiday pack are a account wide unlock, of course it would still let you buy it, even if you got most of the items in game for free on all of your characters, because it is available for all characters you create in the future on your account. Granted the winter holiday pack had emotes, costume change emote, and a permanent snowball power that you couldn't get in the game for free at all. (the in game snowball power was temporary and I think expired after 7 days)

2) In my opinion, if you are VIP you should not be able to purchase something from the shop that is given to you for free. Why would anybody want to spend extra money on something they already have? If your subscription lapses, then it would revert back to the "buy" button except for rewards you have obtained from paragon rewards tiers.

3) Duh! Dats what I'm saying. The market assumes you never purchased anything and it is confusing when you want to buy something of a set like the invention salvage slot, vault slot, enhancement slot, etc, increases and don't remember which ones you bought.

In conclusion, what I am getting at is that if you have something unlocked permanently on your account, the shop should not allow you to add it to the cart to avoid confusion so you know what you don't have yet.
