Is the Titan Weapons costume pack really gone for Christmas?

Remember when the Titan Weapons powerset came out, they launched a weapon pack with it that had four extra weapons? Well, a friend of mine said he couldn't find it, I looked and I couldn't find it, and now I'm being told it's been taken off the market with the promise that it might be back at some point. I thought the idea was to put it online for free for those who wanted to purchase early, and then make it paid the rest of the time. What possible reason could there be to take it off the Market? All that means is people will be that much less interested in buying Titan Weapons. I know I would be. This isn't even a season-related or holiday-relevant pack to argue that it's just for the holidays. In fact, today is Christmas and the pack is gone. I looked for it a few days ago and it was there, it just cost 400 points, but now it's gone?

Can anyone explain this to me? Maybe tell me that I'm wrong, that the pack is still on the Market and I just can't find it, that people are giving me false information or that there's some kind of technical issue that's preventing the pack from being on the market, like the "unknown SKU" thing. Anything that doesn't force me to accept that someone suggested "Hey, let's take away half the weapons in our newest weapon set for Christmas day!" and someone else agreed with this. Because that just blows my mind.

I don't want to throw blame around when I don't know all the facts, so I sincerely hope that either I'm dead wrong or there's something unavoidable going on, because otherwise, this is just... Baffling.

Yep, they took it down on the 19th cuz it was a free bonus and they haven't repriced it. I bought Titan weps yesterday and tried to get it, but nope

Posted

Probably technical, they said it will be back soonish with a price tag.

That said, I got the pack for free the day it was released but only bought TW 2 days ago, and have the extra weapons, I told people to grab it even if they weren't planning on buying TW (I wasn't sure I would) just in case...

I suspect that it isn't back on the market yet because they wanted to see TW (and the pack) in the wild before they set a price tag.

That said, I and many others made a bit of a crusade to tell everyone to buy the weapon pack NOW because it was free and you could buy it without buying TW first. Anyone who missed it because they weren't buying TW until later... I don't really feel sorry for them.

If it's free, but will cost money in the future, why wouldn't you buy it right away? It's not like you personally have to carry around all the extra weapons until you roll the character.

I tried to tell people the same, as well, but I failed to keep track of all the people I knew, and some returned to the game after Titan Weapons came out and after I made the point to tell everyone. I get that it's kind of a case of ignorance, but that just makes the design come off as even more convoluted. Buy it now that it's free because you can't have it later when you'll actually want to pay for it!

I honestly wouldn't have minded if the Titan Weapons themselves were put on the Market as separate pieces, priced the same as the Valkyrie Sword or the Vanguard Axe. If they can't fit a pack, they don't have to.

It's great that you and others went on a 'crusade' to inform others to get the pack while it was available. Unfortunately, not everyone searchs the forums for specific information regarding game purchases and, believe it or not, many rely on Paragon's official announcements to make their purchasing decisions. Said official announcement made it sound as if you had to have Titan Weapons to get the free weapon pack ...

Limited time bonus: Purchase the Titan Weapons Power Set and get Weapon Pack: Titan Weapons #1 free until December 19!

For a limited time, purchase the Titan Weapons Power Set in the Paragon Market™, and you can purchase the Weapon Pack: Titan Weapons #1 for free! This brand new pack contains four (4) additional Titan Weapons (in-game models) for the Titan Weapons Power Set:

Atomic Smasher
Demonic Axe
Plasma Sword
Purgatory Sword

This offer is only available for two weeks; after December 19, the Weapon Pack: Titan Weapons #1 will be removed from the Paragon Market and reintroduced at a later date, so hurry and receive these new Titan Weapons customization options for no additional Paragon Points!

I'm a little annoyed that Paragon deliberately misadvertised the fact that you actually did NOT need to have Titan Weapons to get the free pack. I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't have enough Paragon Points to purchase Titan Weapons until after Christmas and so would have to pay for the pack. Now I'm discovering that isn't true. How silly of me to assume that the "official" announcement would be, you know, accurate.

Well I didn't actually read the announcement on the pack till later and wasn't even planning on buying TW at the time (as I said, bought it 2 days ago) - I just saw the pack for 0 points in the market and thought 'hey it's free like the whatever badge so I'll grab it'. Only a few hours later I read in the forums it was a limited offer.

I didn't see the pack on the Market at all, because the Paragon Market's "Featured" and "New" items sections are hopelessly broken and either show old items or show only some of the new items. I had to ask on the forums about it, then I was told that a Weapons Pack even existed. I'd assumed that the weapons would come with my purchase of the set and that a separate pack wouldn't come until later, or that the pack would be included in the purchase. I wouldn't have even known a pack existed if people on the forums hadn't told me.

Secondly, I really wouldn't have minded if you had to have the set in order to buy the pack, provided the pack stayed in the store afterwards for a price. That's not exactly what happened. The pack DID sell for 400 points for at least a day - another friend of mine brought it up, I went to check and there it was, for a price - then it vanished entirely.

As good as City of Heroes is, I sometimes wonder if Marketing people aren't secretly conspiring to sink it with marketing decisions like this.

Who said that we limited ourselves to the forums? I am a member of a couple Facebook groups devoted to the game and shared with them. I repeatedly told people in the global channels I'm in, and if I was teamed and anyone asked about the weapon I was using, I explained the weapons pack and urged them to buy it, even if they were uncertain about getting Titan Weapons. There are methods of communication outside the forums, you know.

I really wonder how this pack will be priced (not that it matters to me personally since I already grabbed it as a freebie.) It's a pretty small number of new models and it's only useful for one freakin' power set. I WOULD like to see a big weapons pack with new models for all of the weapon types. Now that would be nice.

I found it as soon as I opened the market, it was right below or above the TW powerset but well doesn't matter now.

I think they might reprice it and that may be the reason it was taken out, 400 points is too much for 4 weapons. A stand alone weapon is 60 points iirc (I think that's what I paid for the gunslinger pistols and the vanguard katana), so 200 points for the pack would be more like it imo.

Some are 60, others 80. I think a few were 40. I expect these to be 80 each and probably 260-300 for the bundle of 4.

I make it a point to check the front page of the store every Tuesday, just to make sure that the announcements don't miss something. This was how I noticed that the pack was free, and not linked to the purchase of TW.

I'd suggest the same practice in the future, so as to avoid this same situation from occurring.

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

Wile I did get the pack w/o getting Titan Weapons, thanks to the forums, I agree OrangeDragon that the advertisement was misleading.

I don't know what it is, but I've never been able to find the new items listed in the "New Items" list. The Store keeps insisting that Beam Rifle just came out and that's the newest thing I should be looking to buy. I saw Titan Weapons in there, but having looked through all of the available "New Items" did not reveal a bonus pack. I had to search for it by name.

Yeah, they probably should reprice it, or just not make it into a pack at all. Just releasing the weapons into the Market by themselves would suffice. People don't have to look for them in the store, as costume items can be bough from the costume editor directly. Really, though - the price isn't the issue so much as the pack's availability at all. At the very least, I'd like to see the pack available in the store, but listed as "Not Purchasable" just so people know it exists but can't be bought yet. I'd even rather deal with the "Unknown SKU" problem than to just not have it in the game at all.

I bought the pack before getting TW too. I saw it was free and so figured I'd try to get it and it worked. I only got TW yesterday after my gf bought me 1320 PPs for Christmas. Tbh, I was a bit disappointed by the weapons. I thought there'd be more 'gimmick' TWs, but there's only really the railyard thing. Lots of swords etc is a bit meh for me.

Haven't thought of a goid concept yet for TW. I hope they bring out more 'weapons' for it, I like my 2 WM toons.

Wait, they misadvertised that you didn't need the Titan Weapons power pack?

You mean: you're upset you simply assumed you would need it, since in all most all cases (and I can't think of one where it hasn't been) that when there is a pre-requisite it is listed in the details (I.E. they would have said: Titan Weapons needed in order to claim this pack for free!)

Not their fault but the end users fault to assume that TW was needed.

My Money (by which I mean when this pack was revealed [before we found out it was free at launch] this was the amount *I* would be willing to pay) was on 200 points. 800 for the set seemed reasonable with a 200 add on (since these were nice additions IMO).

I have to agree with VoodooGirl here, it's not their job to warn users that you are capable of buying the weapon skins pack while it's free without buying the stuff that's required to use it.

Not only is this contrary to their profit, it will only serve to confuse their customers even further. Just because YOU are smarter doesn't mean they are. Plenty of people would be upset that they were told to buy this "weapon pack" and they can't use it until they buy titan weapons.

I'm fairly certain they're revamping the pack so that the players who missed that opportunity don't buy it by mistake thinking they're getting titan weapons. It would be an AWFUL shame for players to actually PAY for the weapon pack thinking they'd be able to use it somehow without purchasing titan weapons first.

I really don't fault Paragon Studios for trying something new in this case. Sure, I wish they'd had the tech to simply award the pack automatically to anyone who bought Titan Weapons, but you take what you can get. What bugs me is that they pulled the pack from the Market for Christmas, and they did so BEFORE they priced it and had a solid plan for returning it to be purchased. So now, people who spent the extra money as a Christmas present specifically to buy Titan Weapons, like the person I spoke about, can't get it. And by the time it comes out, they may well be done with Titan Weapons for some time like I am (I got my Brute from 1 to 46 and now she's resting) or they may end up disappointed because the base 6 weapons are not that inspirational.

I LOVE the concept of weapon packs. I'd love to see more of them. But the Titan Weapons pack really wasn't handled very well at all. I sincerely hope that new packs aren't mishandled as badly in the future.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll come back, but probably not at 400 points, that IS a little pricey at 100 points per weapon. Most other weapons run what? 60 points per?

This is labeled Weapons Pack: Titan Weapons #1, so I'm assuming there will be more, depending on popularity of the set. Perhaps they're waiting on Marketing numbers. Probably be a month at least before we see a #2.

If I had to guess, I would say that the way it was advertised (if you buy the power set, then you get the weapon skins for free) was how Paragon Studios wanted to sell it. But they couldn't get the tech in the store to work that way, bundling two different items together like that. So they decided to just have the weapons for free whether you bought the pack or not, and figured it wouldn't make much difference either way since most people would get both or neither.
