It's not getting discarded - it's getting a major upgrade - the little hints and fragments of the story there are being used to create the new Incarnate story arcs.

That possible story arc will be completely taken away when they put in Incarnate Dark Astoria, where Incarnates will stop the Banished Pantheon from freeing the dark god Mot.

It's ridiculous how they threw away a potentially cool story to give us this drek.

May I suggest then that perhaps you don't actually know what you're saying? Because I'm making fun of you for complaining that the story being hinted at in oldAstoria is being kept and expanded on in newAstoria.

And if some retconning happens, that's nothing new in either comics or MMOs. There was barely any story in DA, so it's hard to get upset if the actual story doesn't adhere completely to the strands that had been there.

In exactly the same way the new zone will be destroying story potential. The devs can do anything in echos, flashbacks, and Ouroboros timelines including anything you can possibly think up for Dark Astoria. So this new zone doesn't destroy any story potential at all. Just like shunting the incarnate content into DA instances limits nothing at all.

I'm just going to leave it as we're going to have to disagree on this.

Then again, my... lowering regard for the dev team (see also "small dogs, room of bouncing balls") and the directions they're moving is fairly well on record.

Also just stepping back out in general. As mentioned - DA is near and dear to me. It's really, zone-wise, something that hooked me on COH way back, and no, given what we've been shown, I *don't* see this as good in the slightest - I see it as sacrificing a zone to more Well/Praetorian piffle.

So my posts on this - I've deleted and just stopped myself from making a few after typing them out, seeing that I'm still just disgusted with how things are going and it's making me far too tempted to snap at people. I've written about five replies to bosstone and the tone of them... yeah. Not the way to have a discussion. Even with having GG on ignore still.

You're not losing anything - the current version of Dark Astoria will be kept as an echo zone - everything you like about the old zone will still be there for you to access.

Leave it to people on this board to complain about a zone that has never had content finally getting that long asked for content—and the highly requested solo Incarnate content at that. The devs can never seem to win anywhere.

I keep subbing for 2 things. Ability to pay base rent, since my SGs are alts only, and, most importantly, having enough slots for upwards of 125 characters. Otherwise, I'd likely drop my sub as well. I've only 2 50's and am pretty much locked out of running Incarnate content due to my playtimes until the solo path gets made, and there has yet to be much free to VIP non-incarnate content I've enough interest in to keep subscribing to get. Without my sub I'd have 15 or so slots. Considering my sub cost is less than $4 a month (after subtracting the cost of my free PPs), it's a great value compared to the cost of buying all those slots.

@Doctor Gemini

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

To be fair - the people who wanted development of DA are not necessarily the ones wanting a solo/small team incarnate path.

The developers are getting a two birds, one stone deal here, and some would rather the devs would not be so stingy with their stones.

With regards to DA, any of those questions regarding possible arc material might very well be answered IN THE UPGRADE TO THE ZONE.

I think people are knee-jerking right now with regards to the new stuff.

I'm VIP, T9 unlocked, on TWO accounts and have no plans to stop paying.

To be blunt: The development effort in the game, which I greatly enjoy, warts and all, is going to be primarily aimed at VIP content.

Why?

TO MAKE YOU PAY. (muahahahahahahaa!!)

Why would they develop content and give it away for free? The business model is, and ALWAY is, to incent you to pay them for their efforts.

Good work so far, Dev's. Keep it up.

In my opinion going freem is a bad move, unless you decide there's enough existing content to keep you happy for the foreseeable future. If so, enjoy.

But consider this: When you get bored and leave, your loss is actually a gain for the game, as you are no longer draining server resources for no revenue.
