Cheapest brute secondary?

Just as the title asks.

What is the cheapest brute secondary to max out your resistance or defense with? I was interested in Willpower, but after looking at some builds and then prices on the market, it seemed really out of reach to me.

Well, it all depends on what you consider expensive. How much is expensive to you?
EA, SD and SR are probably the easiest to easy to cap to all damage/positions.
What primary are you considering?
Just remember that the market isn't the only place you can get IOs from.
Stone gives the best all around protection but you sacrifice Mobility, recharge and damage.
Inv can be softcapped. It is a good mix of defense and resistance
Elec gives good all round resistance to most damage typed and capped Energy resistance. It maybe hard reach the defense soft cap.

I was thinking of getting one of the two purchasable powersets, Street Justice or Titan Weapons. I'm unsure of pricing still, but I saw some enhancements like " Kinetic Combat" running for 100 million each, and some Willpower sets included 5 sets of them.

Particularly with Titan Weapons you should go with something that has good synergy (or just minimizes weapon redraw like Willpower) over 'cheapness'. You can always get more inf, but you can't respec a new secondary (well, without starting over).

If you want a "tough" build that you could put together very cheaply, you could do Katana, Titan Weapons or Broad Sword with either Invuln or WP.

You won't necessarily be softcapped to all types, but neither Invuln nor WP require being softcapped to be fairly tough overall.

Easiest secondary to max is super reflexes. Simply take all the defense powers except Elude (the three toggles and three passives), Maneuvers, Combat Jumping, Tough, and Weave, 3 slot all for defense and tough with a steadfast, and you are softcapped. Combine that with a SS, and put a +recharge proc in footstomp and you have a very powerful character for only 2 set IOs (I would highly recommend using merits to get the numina and miracle procs as well, they are great for endurance).

Don't be scared off. You can get Kinetic Combat without the market by getting alignment merits (basically, run 5 tips a day) and buying KCs in Fort Trident or The Crucible. You can also get alignment merits by running the signature story arcs (the first episode is easy to solo for melee chars), and by converting reward merits to alignment merits (costs 20 million, but when you consider how much KCs cost it's a deal).

Finally, you can get KCs with 16 or 32 astrals from Astral Christie in Ouroboros.

You can speed up outfitting your character by doing these things on multiple characters and emailing yourself the recipes.

Stone Armour.

But yeah, I can't really recommend it at all.

I remember when Willpower was released and like, 2 weeks later I was on a team, my IO'ed EM/Nin Salker, 2 very heavily IO'ed EM/Elec Brutes (FoTM at the time) and a SO'ed SS/WP Brute who had turned 50 that day, he told me.

The fella outsurvived both the other Brutes with no issue.

It's partly because the set is so well-rounded. Purples, reds, oranges and greens all seem to do massive amounts for you.

One of the best ways to make money without playing the market yourself is to run tip missions for your alignment merits. Every other day you can get one of those $100,000,000 enhancements yourself and either slot it or use it.

Both Street Justice and Titan Weapons are End Hogs. You might consider Willpower. I ran a SS?Willpower Brute NOT built for enhancing any armor (although a expensive build ) and it was very very tough. Seriously, take a look at it.

I keep hearing people talk in hushed tones about redraw on titan weapons.

My TW has FA as the secondary which is extremely clicky. One trick I found is saving the PBAOE Whirling Smash for the moment when you need to redraw, (for example laying down a burn patch, using Healing Flames etc), the skill does the redraw instantly and you're back up and running again.

For the OP, keep in mind you don't have to have Kinetic Combat slotted up and down your build right from the start. Just find a secondary you enjoy and you'll farm up the cash in no time with TW.

This. This is very good advice.

A bs/inv was one of my first toons, pre-I1, and would still be one of my favorites if "Jack's Nerf-pocalypse" hadn't driven me to delete it in a rage before I quit for two years.

If you're looking for economical and durable, BS/Invuln is hard to beat.

And yes, katana will do the same thing, but BS is the one I played....

Here: I went and took 20 minutes to toss something together. You can get everything on here for dirt cheap, or hero merits.
