old/new Atlas statue

Just for the heck of it, I compared the old and new versions. There are really some nice differences. The globe is more rounded, the face and body look more 'real, and the blocky hands are relaced...there are fingers. Bravo devs.

still, he remains inexplicably topless.

I guess finding shirts in his size must be a pain.

Now if only they'd update the Atlas Park loading screen with the new Atlas statue. For some reason, it's still using a pic from the old Atlas statue.

The loading screen still said 2009 until earlier this year. The reason you're looking for is called "project management"; the key component of leaving things broken. If it's not driving away customers (or not pulling in new ones), it can wait.

Just wait until he shrugs.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

I'm just glad they didn't make him too realistic. I had enough problems when I got my squid stuck in Galaxy Girl's skirt that one time I was flying drunk, let alone concussing one on Little Atlas.

Atlas is not proportional, it was his heroic angst source.

Personally, I don't like the new Atlas. His butt crack goes all the way up to his neck, and his boots just seem out of place. Most of the rest of his is wearing smooth tights or is actually topless, yet these boots have over-detailed soles that stick out from the actual boot. That, and his feet seem way too long, like he's wearing clown shoes. I like the fingers, though.

Sadly, while the globe IS more rounded, its texture is still misaligned at the top where the exploration badge is.

The globe is tilted. The badge marker is on the "top" of it, but not where the "north pole" is. If anything, the badge marker is misaligned with the texture.

That's his spine going up to his neck, just so you know. When you've got serious musculature (which Atlas had) and you're carrying something behind your back like that, your back muscles bunch up. And since there are no muscles over the spine, you get a "valley" running down your spine.

The only nitpicking I could do with that would be to smooth out the base around the tailbone, creating less of a "valley".

I pulled the trigger. That's right, I did it, in Warburg, with the pistol. - Mista Chains

Everyone know the Tank Archetype get the most drops of all the types. This is because of their "Death Dealing" powers. I call it the front line bonus...but you'll never read this in the wiki - "Rx10"

I never realized that the new statue is standing on its toes with both feet now. The old way, with a firmly planted foot, gives a better impression of stability.

Yes, it's from an early beta. These screenshots were actually released on one of the gaming web sites (Gamespot, I think?) early in the development process. I don't know if you could fly in the globe; I'm guessing not, but I wasn't involved that early, so maybe you could.

Interestingly enough, before even these screenshots, really early screenshots indicated that the statue was much smaller, off to the side of City Hall, and looked like a "Death Star" instead of a globe.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

From what I remember, people actually got stuck in the globe, which is a reason it was made solid.

Of course that was before I was working on the game...

I guess this was before there was a /stuck command? Because now, we have that, and a plethora of TP options...

I think it was before /stuck was added or it may have been that /stuck didn't move you to the outside of the globe.

It's been a few years, my memory isn't as good as it used to be.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

That was my initial thought as well, but I just flat couldn't remember for certain.

I "think" that the globe was already solid by the time I got into Beta in March, but I can't be sure of that either.

I'm glad they made it solid. Looks tacky being wire frame. Maybe if a wire frame globe was somewhere in front of, like, a planetarium, on it's own or something.
