Nice article. Very interesting read.

Sad to hear this. Sadder still that I can mention his name to people and have most of them say "who?"

I was not at all aware of Mr. Robinson or his story, but what an amazing one it was! It's a strange feeling, yesterday, there was no "Jerry Robinson" that I knew of, and today, there is, and it's already a void. I'm very curious now about his body of work, but it's a shame that it took his passing for me to learn of it.

Awww.

Truly one of the founding fathers.

Is there anyone even left from the Golden Age?

I think he may have been the last one standing.

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Stan Lee and Joe Kubert would like to have a word with you.

But keep it quick, it's almost time for jell-o.

"I came up with the name for Robin" Uhhh dude your name is Robinson... it doesn't take a genius to see that if you did it was more like "Why not name it after me?!" lame

"I played a role in the creation of Joker" Ummm dude it's well known that Joker was nearly completely lifted from "The man who laughs" so no you really didn't

Just saying...

I find it more disrespectful to not remember someone accurately. And not to mention that their lies is disrespectful to those who actually should be remembered for that stuff.

But that's besides the point because there is no reason to "respect" the dead. They're dead.

So Robinson helped create Two-Face and Alfred Pennyworthy and now is dead while you're alive and "frank"? Is that your point?

RIP, Mr. Robinson. De mortuis nihil nisi bonum.

You didn't say much of anything about Robinson here while he was alive, either. Bringing up the whole Conrad Veidt-vs-playing card debate over the Joker now is neither appropriate nor news. (This is a comics-related forum - most of us know all about it.) "Just saying" is a shrug of would-be candor that doesn't have a place in an obit thread.

Oh my... someone didn't say something about a person that most people didn't know about.

If you want to honor and respect people, dead or alive, making them out to be more than they were is not the way. It's disrespectful to the person that they are taking credit away from and it's disrespectful to the person you are giving it to because you are saying "you aren't good enough on your own merits."

If you want to pay respect to someone pay respect to them and not some ******** person that never existed because they are a fabrication of false praise. A person is both their failings and their successes.

I tend to think of them as Silver Agers because of the impact they had then, but yeah, you're totally correct.

Also found out that Joe Simon is still alive (at 98!) and drawing. Good to see that there's still a couple of the legends still out there fighting the never-ending battle.

Look around you, do you seriously think that comics controversies aren't bread and butter to posters here? I have my own somewhat prickly opinions about the value of Robinson's work on Batman, but this isn't the venue to air them. If you had serious views about them, then why did you wait for an obit thread to indulge in them in the name of candor? Hastily glossing over the numerous issues over creative credit that Robinson, Finger, and Kane had here doesn't show respect to anyone involved.

Ye gods, Durakken, do you ever read the stuff you write??

For starters you said

"I came up with the name for Robin" Uhhh dude your name is Robinson... it doesn't take a genius to see that if you did it was more like "Why not name it after me?!" lame
I have no idea where you got this from, he actually got the name from Robin from Robin Hood, have a read of this interview for some actual reality. So much for your "genius".

As for who created the Joker, you know what? We'll never know! 3 different people involved in it give differing stories, so it's good how you are so sure that you are right, given that it's been debated for years now.

But regardless, Jerry Robinson was involved in the creation of some of the most beloved characters in the history of comic books, he was one of the founding fathers of the Batman legacy and from what I've been reading about him, he's been a tireless campaigner for creators rights in the comic industry, so for that, he gets my respect.

I can't be sad when a person of that age passes on. They lived a long life and whether it was a good life is something only they can say. That said, he will be missed.
