Character creation annoyance
Just hit the 'Clear' button and you're back to tights.

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
Yes.
Is the change a big deal? Not really. But it is irritating and pointless.
Since it was implemented, I've seen a number of people, myself included, complain about the change. I've seen even more people offer up a quick, simple solution. What I haven't seen, though, is even one single person who's defended it as an improvement. The closest I've encountered has been people saying, "it's not so bad; at least it's easy to go back to how it was before."
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
I honestly have no idea why they did this, it's not like people needed help navigating around the costume creator, or needed to have their hands held to figure out the different categories.

Considering how easy it is to get rid of, I think the move was done simply as a visual way of saying "Look at all the stuff there is!"
Yes, it is totally unnecessary, but I guarantee a few people have come across the random costume, and found a piece or two that they may otherwise have overlooked.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.

Yeah, what Winterminal said.
While I, personally, hit clear every time and prefer to work from a clean slate... I decided not to let it bother me at all... mainly by deciding to enjoy seeing what the random feature throws up when I enter.
I think that this is one of those features that some people like one way and other people like the opposite way.
Since I can hit clear and have it my way, I have no problem with it.
This allows them to show some things off and might inspire some people entering into it with what they find.
Hehe, I just have so many other things to frustrate me (outside of the game) that I make sure to not let everything I don't like add to it all, hehe (I say that with levity and with a tiny amount of hope that I may help anyone else maybe let go a little!).

Giving people a starting idea to work off of is a help with no downsides. Unless your character design includes any of the default "blank" pieces, you lose nothing for having a costume set put on the character. Just work off of that. In fact, when remaking a character, I'll often hit the Random button about 20 times just so that I'm not working off a blank base, which is dreadfully boring and largely uninspiring.

Just to make a mention, while I was staying at my bros house the past 2 months, and my cousin and nephew caught me playing CoX, they always ask what it is, what you do and who this-that-that-and-this is. I tell them "Those are my characters" and they're like 'woah, you can make all those cool characters? Can I make one?' So I load up a server I don't play on (I don't have that many characters...something like 36 spread over 3 servers) and let them go at it.
Despite me telling them what they can do, what pieces are available and different ways to customize, they used the pre-made costumes or started with pre-made and changed a couple parts. I'd imagine, with random costumes loading when you start, it's trying to show you 'what you can do'. Me? I don't need that. I know what's there and usually know what I'll make before entering the costume creator. But newbs will be overwhelmed by the options. The only way to get past this sense is to actually *see* all the pieces and you can do this by playing the game, making lots of costumes and yes, opening the costume creator and there being a random costume in your face
While I'm not a fan of this change, since I like the blank slate starting position, it's easy to clear, as mentioned above.
But I think it was done for two reasons:
1. To help spur new players to discover good costume combinations (as Sam said above).
2. To make it harder to spot goldfarmer/spambot characters.

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Well then obviously the next step is having the character creator put random combinations of words in the name box so that you can't tell from them having names like, "hjkgjkgjgj"...
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Seems an odd change to make to me. I guess they want to highlight the costume bundles a bit.
If they were going to make changes in this area I wish they had added the ability to "Lock" bits of the costume. I like clicking the random button, but perversely, as they have added more and more costume parts the effects have become worse. It would be nice to click randomly and go "I like that bit, lock it." then click random again.
This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

i am sort of in between the two views on this.
I do feel it's a little annoying, because when I make a new character or costume i like to start with a "blank canvass" I guess you could say, however I like that I can view some of the costume pieces I never have looked at before. For example I wouldn't have ever looked at the vanguard costume pieces without it randomly popping up, and it turns out I really rather like them

I actually *saved* a few of those random costumes before hitting the "Clear" button - just to be able to tweak them to my liking later.
You can laugh, I'm weird that way...

Right now, it seems as if it's seeing that there's say, 5 head categories, that there's an equal chance that it will pick 'Normal Heads' as it will 'Monstrous Heads'. Since normal has hundreds of combinations under it, and Monstrous has like... 5, you see a lot of repetition clicking the random button.
This is certainly a minor gripe compared to the furor over the withheld CoT costume parts, or the emp merit costs for unlocking the new incarnate powers. But it's kind of a nuisance anyhow.
Why for the love of all heaven did they make things so that when you create a new character, it starts out with some random mishmashed costume instead of the default tights?
Before I can get to work making my character, I have to go and take all this mismatched crap off first.
Was this really necessary? What was wrong with starting out with the plain tights (blank canvas)? I think this is a classic case of "If it 'aint broke, don't fix it!"
Anyone else find this change annoying or at least uncalled for?
