can't get Hero Merit out of SSA1 anymore

I'm VIP.
I ran 2 SSA1s this morning and for both I got a message saying I couldn't get a Hero Merit because I needed to run my latest morality mission 1st.
It's been over a week since I ran SSA1 on either toon, so that's not the problem.

Neither toon had a morality mission outstanding. patch says nothing about now forcing you to run a morality mission before you can earn hero merits (which would be @#$@#$)

petition filed.

This was in this morning's patch notes. Not a bug, unfortunately, but an intended change.

yup, definitely intended, you must have done at least one morality mish to affirm your alignment now to get the alignment merit

Which somewhat sucks, as I don't know *until* then if I've actually run that on any specific character without digging through badges or powers. Just got that on one I was fairly sure I *had* run the morality missions on.

well I found that in the patch notes:

Players must now be confirmed as Heroes or Villains (i.e., their most recent Morality Mission confirmed their alignment) in order to claim Alignment Merits as rewards from Signature Story Arcs

Don't know if I missed it earlier or if they updated the patch notes

Since you can't do tips until lvl20, this is preventing toons lower than 20 to get Merit Rewards

what's next? SSAs limited to level 50 to force you to level your toons to 50?

Way to piss off paying customers.

easy way to tell if you reaffirmed alignment, if you have countdown to frenzy or actually have the frenzy power (for villains), or the call to justice hero counterpart

i think that they did this because free players or players who had not bought the alignment system were able to pick the alignment merit, if you cant run the morality then you cant get the alignment merit is basically the simplest thing they could do to fix it

... which, again. 300 characters. I don't have that in the tray on all the ones I have run it on. I don't run the tip missions on all my characters - especially older ones that started and are staying an alignment.

I think you could tell by whether or not you have the alignment power.

There could be instances where that is not the case though, I am not sure.

if its not in the tray takes like 1 sec to open the powers menu, its usually bottom of temp power list which is right near the top too

i dont have anywhere near 300 toons, but i do have almost 40 of which very few of them have run tip mishs especially if they are non 50s

The bigger problem is that there's a 2-day lead time to doing the morality mission, (or 1 day if you group it). Which means that you can't just log in planning to run the SSA, open the powers menu, find you need a morality mission and fix it - you have to plan ahead. Which means logging in all the characters and checking their alignment status. Trivial on one character, but with login/logout times, as much as a minute per character.

If you had 300 characters, that'd be 5 hours of logging in/out and writing down the alignment status.

I don't think that's most people's idea of a good way to spend their leisure time. I've only got 40-ish characters, and I'm mildly peeved already.

oh i know that, im was saying its not hard to check if said toon had or had not run a morality mish yet

i absolutely hate the time it takes to get to a morality mish though

Even that doesn't seem to matter. I have a Defender and a Corruptor who both have their respective alignment powers, and still got that message.

I have NO IDEA what criteria they are using?!

if its not letting you get it even though you have reaffirmed your alignment then i would assume its a bug or it requires you to reaffirm again (which is also stupid) to make it work

That sounds like their criteria isn't working. Bug it.

so if I leave this big ugly window (see OP) open while I complete tips and morality missions (over the next 2 days), will it allow me to select the reward?

I don;t mind re-running the SSA, but I don't want to have to wait a week till I do the mission again and "lose" a hero merit.

given how mad I am about this unannounced change as a VIP, I can't imagine how I would feel if I were an premium that paid for the SSA and find out they changes the rules after the fact.

Actually, does "reaffirming" include waiting a week to get the hero power?

I'm sorry, but this is pretty silly if you ask me. Please revert this or do something about those 100 kill no tip streaks.

Not for nothing but this seems to break the SSA system for anyone who isn't level 20+ and hasn't done any tip missions yet.

I'm sorry but the proper fix should have been to simply flag choosing the alignment merit reward as requiring access to the alignment system.

Making us have to jump through these unnecessary hoops is very detracting from enjoying the content and the rewards they bring.

Basically there is no reason to do SSA content until after lvl 20 and after you've done 2 days of alignment missions, even though you can start it as early as lvl 10 since you'll be arbitrarily locked out of one of the more valuable rewards from doing it.

I have plenty of characters who I am not planning to ever change their alignment. Having to run 10 tip + 1 morality mission on them just to be able to get the alignment merit reward from the SSA on them is obnoxious.

Nightfall: 50 DDD

This gets even wonkier. I decided to do 5 tip missions since I was halfway to an alignment merit on my defender anyway. I finished 5, did the alignment mission, and got.... 50 merits??!

That shouldn't be possible, since this character already has the Hero alignment power?

Anyway, I ran the SSA(1) after that and got my alignment merit, but seriously wonky stuff there.

Not that I'm happy about it but 22 merits in 10 minutes is still pretty sexy.

That isn't really the point though.

If you are going to award alignment merits then you should simply require the character to be of the appropriate alignment and have access to the alignment system.

I have a feeling the reason for this change has less to do with having access to the alignment system and more to do with slowing down our acquisition of alignment merits via the SSA.
