Please suggest a fun support AT combo

I'd like to make an alt that is focused on supporting team - any suggestions for a fun combo? I imagine I am looking at a Defender, Corr, Dom, or Controller. The debuff sets with anchors (Rad, Dark, etc) seem to be tough because the anchor gets killed so fast, but I may be doing it wrong. The buffing sets (Thermal, Cold) seem to often almost annoy people when you cover them in armor they did not choose

Anyways, I am open to anything - just maybe give a pointer or two so stink less at it.

Thanks!

It does drive me nuts when my character is stuck in a pink ice crystal with green flames orbiting her inside of a faint grey-blue bubble.

With anchors, I tend to try to place them on the second strongest mobs in a normal group - LTs when there's a single boss, side bosses, etc - and on two different ones. Just remember, though, they're dying so fast -because- you debuffed them, so it's not a bad thing!

For a set with neither of those, though, have you considered Trick Arrow?

Could always go Kinetics

Fire/Kin corruptor is insanely powerful, provides buffing to your team, and they do not have an excuse if SB hits them and they do not want it as they can head to Null the Gull and turn it off.

A couple suggestions from my personal favorites list:

Ice/Dark Corruptor - Feels a bit like a controller. Tar patch + Ice storm slows everything to a crawl, panics and tears apart weaker enemies; Throw in a Blizzard and you seriously damage and disable bosses as well. The anchor is nice, but not really required for every spawn once you get fearsome stare. Two holds (at least I took two of them) lets you lock down most trouble enemies very quickly. The pet fills in the gaps with random healing and a very powerful -tohit aura. For some reason, Ice's largest single target blast has a large tohit debuff in it, which stacks nicely with dark's debuffs.

Plant/Storm Controller - I have an ongoing love affair with confuse, which seeds of confusion satisfies early on. Between freezing rain knocking things over, carrion creepers being a disruptive distraction that knocks things over, lightning storm knocking things over, they barely even get a chance to beat one another senseless unless you root them. You also have tornado and hurricane available to unleash if necessary. Feels like very controlled chaos with a reasonable amount of damage.

Neither one has terribly high maintenance (shields, buffs, etc), and are fairly versatile as far as offense and defense. Both solo fairly well and feel like they're making a sizable difference on teams. Both had very tight builds for me though. Wanted more slots than I had.

If you dont like the anchors on rad, give /time a try. I recommend it with dark, though sonic would be good if you can stand the noises. A dark/time corr offers good support ability, but you can focus more on attacking while supporting.

Trick arrow/archery is surprisingly effective. People will tend not to take it seriously, but they'll enjoy the debuffs, and as you go you get a lot of them. And archery performs quite solidly as a secondary.

First off, if the buff shields annoy members of the team, they're doing something wrong Now if you're being drive by buffed while at Icon or WW, totally different.

As for my suggestion...Time/Fire Defender...bring damage and AOE with good buffs/debuffs.

In my case I have both bad eyes and not the most powerful computer, on the negative side, and on the positive side, an interest in costumes and varieties of appearances. One of the major things that makes grouping often dull for me is the way it all looks the same, particularly at the higher levels: everybody looks like 2-5 buff sets, rather than like individuals.

I hope that at some point the game will include minimal-intensity options - I like knowing I have a buff, or that I've given a buff to someone else but I wish it didn't overpower so much, so easily.

Take a look at

I have the auras/fx disabled on all of my characters. Yes, it is only for my character and no one else sees the difference, but in all honesty who really cares a damn what anyone else looks at? I play the characters for my own enjoyment, and I feel much better when I can actually look at my costumes.

Edit: For the OP, some sort of kin I suppose. TA and Traps are also pretty nice and don't muck up people's costumes or have anchors. And empathy, I suppose...

A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator

Fascinating! Thanks.

That'll do, pig. That'll do.

Fire/traps corruptor. All the things you do to support the team work just as well if solo.

I would toss Fire/Pain Corrs in the mix too for some chaotic fun.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

R.I.P.
Chyll - Bydand - Violynce - Enyrgos - Rylle - Nephryte - Solyd - Fettyr - Hyposhock - Styrling - Beryllos - Rosyc
Horryd - Myriam - Dysquiet - Ghyr
Vanysh - Eldrytch
Inflyct - Mysron - Orphyn - Dysmay - Reapyr - - Wyldeman - Hydeous

I suggest either fire/traps or fire/cold ruptor. People can cancel the shields if it bugs them that much.

A note on anchors:

1. Target the furthest lieutenant because your teammates will focus on bosses and the closest lts first, and minions drop too fast.

2. If your team is killing the spawn so fast that an anchor power doesn't seem to matter, then stop using it, because it doesn't matter. Save it for EBs and AV class foes or for spawns that are taking a while to kill.

My note on anchors: keep using 'em, just treat them like pet commands "attack my target" Paint the most troublesome mob and the team will rip it down for you. Don't panic if the team kills your anchor, just put it back up on the next trouble-maker.

Second Lt in a spawn is often a good choice for initial target.

I notice a lot of suggestions for Corrs, but I'll be a bit contrarian since you emphasized that you want a support character. I'd suggest a Stone/Time controller. Stone is a strong control set that's also visually striking (some of the power customizations are awesome to behold). Caveat: I haven't played Time to 50 but it looks like a fun mix of buffs and debuffs.

Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.

Dark Miasma is a pretty inoffensive (VFX-wise) set, assuming you skip Black Hole (and really, almost everyone does). Yes, it has one anchor, but as others have said, don't sweat it when your anchor is killed. If you put it on a boss and the boss is quickly killed then good. It was probably one of the few things in the spawn anyone needed to be debuffed with that anchor anyway.

If you're on a fast moving team and the anchor seems like a waste of time, you still have Fearsome Stare as a click tohit and fear debuff. Fluffy can be summoned right into the middle of a spawn to take an alpha or just to debuff everyone around itself merely by standing there.

When things go bad you can drop all your stuff on a spawn, Darkest Night, Fearsome Stare, Fluffy, Tar Patch, and then Howling Twilight to mass ressurect fallen teammates and turn the battle 180 degrees around in your favor. Everybody's back in fighting shape and the enemy is debuffed into next week by all that.

Worried the team will aggro a second spawn while fighting? If anyone is getting close, go stand next to them with Shadow Fall and they're good unless they run right into that other spawn. Big AoE heal... and the real kicker: Every single power in the set is useful solo or teamed. What's not to like?

If you're mostly used to melee characters, I'd definitely suggest something with Traps in it. Traps/Dark Defender is a Tank with team support options; you can regularly take alphas for x8 teams with minimal IO'ing. Just remember that 'traps' is kind of a misnomer... on a fast-moving team, you can often leap into the spawn before the Tank (after using Seekers to absorb the alpha) and drop your traps right in the middle of the enemies,
