No, that doesn't follow at all. I admire people who graduate from college. I am proud that I graduated college. I gain NO happiness or pride from someone else NOT graduating from college. In fact, I am more apt to feel sadness.

I hate to burst your bubble, but it's a relatively simple matter for a resourceful person to acquire such letters without participating in such activities. Purchase, craft, or steal...
Not in my school. It was against the rules to wear a letter you didn't earn. The monks were somewhat strict about that. Sure you could buy or make one, but if you were seen wearing it, there would be consequences.

Quote:
I like how you start out with "this is completely divorced from anyone else" and then end with being proud of your fellows and admired their wearing of the letter because they earned it as well.
I admire people who earn accolades and honors from their efforts. Again, that takes nothing away from those who have not earned those same honors.

For example, can I feel no pride or admiration for one of my students when they graduate from law school? Do you think that when that happens I will in any way be proud of them because they have something that others don't?

That's an extremely cynical outlook on life. I do not share it.

What about those who didn't earn one? The typical social pressures, eh? What would your fellows have done if they found someone with a letter who hadn't earned it, I wonder? In my school the Athletic letters treated the Band letters like second class citizens and most everyone else worse than that. I can only imagine what an all boys school would have been like.
Honestly, when I first read this, I had to think about it. Because I just could not think of a person who would do this. I'll be honest and say I don't know what would happen. For me, I would think someone who sewed a Football letter to their jacket when they weren't a member of the team was odd and not a little bit sad.

This thread seems to have turned into 50% posts by Evil Geko and 50% posts of people quoting Evil Geko, which is really hard for me to work with since I have the guy on Ignore for pretty much this exact thing, only a year earlier and on a different subject.

There are people out there that actually care about what they did in high school?

I can't even remember anything specific about high school anymore, other than how so many of those athletic types were jerks. But that's not really a specific memory. And most of them are dead now, so... yeah.

Mmmm... aah... let me think... I know someone who won an Emmy award? But they were already out high school by then.

You're correct. Thus, I just put Sam on ignore as well so he can ignore me, and I can ignore him. Everybody wins.

Well, ultimately, both stances are opinion.

You, however, are arguing that yours is the right one and should be the ONLY one in game. We are arguing that both methods should be in-game, thus being fully inclusive of both opinions.

See what I'm getting at? You're the only one slamming other peoples opinions here.

You know, by the same token, those costume bits that were only ever available for purchase should also be unlockable via game content.

That would be the most fair!

I've never slammed anyone's opinion. I fully understand your opinion and there's a part of me that agrees with it. However, what you refuse to accept because you disagree with it, is that the fulfillment of your stance is inconsistent and destructive to my stance.

I get it, you don't see it that way. But I take a great deal of umbrage at the idea that my view is somehow elitist, 'slamming', etc. I really don't understand why you folks can't just try to see that a reasonable person can have a contrary view.

Actually, I wouldn't be for that either. To paraphrase a wise man/deity "Let that which belongs to the store, be paid to the store and let that which is due to achievement be given over to achievement.

I think a better compromise is for the devs to never give costume pieces as rewards for gameplay again. It does seem to annoy people. I know why they keep doing it, but it's a hassle for some.

Not at all. I have all of two people on ignore.

The first is a person that has stated in no uncertain terms that he considers disagreement, no matter how polite, to be a personal attack on him justifying insulting me and my character. After a couple of years of that, I just gave up on this person.

The second is Sam. Sam has personalized this. If he does not wish to look at my posts, so be it. As I told him. I suggested he put me on ignore. But Techbot was right, I was annoyed that he mentioned it and has felt the need to mention over and over that he has me on ignore. So, I think it best to follow his lead.

Question for you: Why do you feel the need to make this so personal? I mean we're arguing over digital costume bits. Why the condescension?

And I should care about this, because...?

Who said I was taking any of this personally? You've been the only one to bring that up, actually.

I disagree with your opinion. I've also been calling shenanigans on your reasons behind those opinions, because I find them either foolish or selfish, and I'm not afraid to call things as I see them. I suppose that might make you feel like I've been attacking you personally if you feel like you have some kind of vested interest in this topic. But if you don't like what I have to say, you're not obligated to listen.

I never put anyone on ignore, because I really don't see the point in doing something like that. It's just a game forum, afterall.

Ah I get it now. You are unable to articulate a response, so you attack the motive instead. Thanks!

But that's in no way you taking it personally, I see!

Also "unable articulate a response" does not mean "saying things I don't agree with" no matter how many times you keep trying to say so.

As well, just so we're clear on this:

I entirely understand the reason for your dislike of this idea. You had to play the ITF to get the Roman costume bits and you feel it's unfair for someone else to later be able to get it by points purchased on the market. You feel it cheapens the reward for you and you feel that is unfair.

My gut reaction to such an opinion is "get over it". This is entirely your problem, all built up in your head. That you've been trying turn it around as the rest of us (those who agree with my opinion) being the unfair ones is just so much justification for your little problem.

I mean, I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear enough throughout this entire ordeal; I've been totally laughing at you and your silly little tirade this entire time. I don't take it at all seriously, but you've continued to push your idea forward, and that's rather humorous. That's the reason my responses might have been a bit a rhubarb.

No, I get it. Seeing all you get worked up over something I really could care less about has been quite entertaining. I argued the point because the ultimate justification for your arguments is laziness. A desire to make already extremely easy tasks easier. And you all continued to argue that you had the purest of motives.

I fully expect that the devs will sell many of these pieces eventually. Perhaps not the Incarnate pieces but most of the others. I don't even think I'll notice when it happens.

"Tirade," no my friend. As I have warned you, you are projecting. I have been nothing but ultra-polite to every poster here. Despite all the ad hominem attacks, flaming and other nonsense directed at me. Sensible posters like the OP stated their position and moved on. While you all gave me something to do instead of work!

Thanks!

You know what would REALLY help on these forums? If ignoring people actually ignored people quoting them, as well as ignoring their posts. I've brought up "I have ignored such and such" a lot, but the only reason I do this is because it's very difficult to do this when posts of their quotes in other people's replies aren't ignored, and I end up reading quotes before I check who they're from. It's an unfortunate habit of mine, I admit, but it makes it very difficult to go through a thread where everyone seems to be quoting someone I have on ignore.

It's not, as many have accused me, to take jabs at people who can't reply. Hell, I'd pay real money for a forum mod that does this.

Like I said, agree to disagree. You don't want stuff buyable. I (and others) want stuff to be buyable, on top of whatever methods are viable in game.

Ultimately, it's going to be down to the Devs and Marketing to see which stays or becomes reality.

Edit: Sorry Sam

Really? Let's look at an impolite ad hominem attack you make in that very same post....

You are welcome to your opinion. But I could post three times that many comments directed at me for having the temerity to argue a different view.
