How can I give Inf to my Free-to-play friend?

So, I understand that free-to-play characters are very very limited, partially as a way to prevent RMT spam.

However, I'm a VIP playing with a free-play friend. I want to make sure he has enough Inf to buy enhancements at the appropriate levels....

But he can't send or receive in-game mail, and I don't think he can trade either!

So, how can I, as a VIP, help my free-to-play friend afford his enhancements? You all know just how fast your XP gain can outstrip your Inf gain when you're on large teams, and without AE, a high level character, auction house, salvage drops, etc. he's gonna be as poor as the hobos in King's Row.

Run missions with him, that's about the only way. Do your missions and he might end up getting high-level SOs... though I don't remember the drop mechanics. I know recipe levels depend on the foes, but not sure if SOs are linked to character's level or the mob's level. I'd guess that they're at the character's level, sadly.

I will try that. It definitely didn't work when I tried to do that with inspirations last night.

Also, while I do have high-level characters, I specifically rolled up a new one to play with my friend. We're running missions at his level, so he can get the full experience of the contacts, story arcs, etc.

I recommend giving him $5 so he can obtain the tier 2 reward token and unlock email, trading, /tell, and so on.

Seriously, a single $5 investment in the game shouldn't break the bank for anyone.

NOR-RAD - 50 Rad/Rad/Elec Defender - Nikki Stryker - 50 DM/SR/Weap Scrapper - Iron Marauder - 50 Eng/Eng/Pow Blaster

Ok, so buying $5 of Paragon Points would get him access to those things via having 1 reward token? That sounds like a decent option.

Also, some Gamestops are selling the boxed Going Rogue for $15.... that's a very sound investment for new accounts right there.

Yeah, I don't think you get more than a Tier 2, but you do get a free month of VIP, and all the Tier 2 rewards listed above, as well as GR content permanently on your account.

A free player applying a box should result in 3 total tokens:

1 for having an account (everyone gets this token)
1 for having a retail code
1 for one month of VIP (awards at the end of the month)

Additionally, a free player applying a GR:Complete box would not have to pay for:
Alignment System
Praetorian character creation/Praetorian content access (*does not include First Ward)
Alpha costume pieces
Omega costume pieces
Resistance costume pieces
Praetorian Police costume pieces
2 Auras
8 Emotes
1 crappy power
4 power sets (*MM and Controller require separate unlock after VIP time runs out)
-- it saves thousands of Paragon Points worth of goodies.

Doesn't the going rogue box also unlock two character slots? This would be rather valuable to a free player I'd think.

I thought I saw something about the market version not giving the slots but they are still a part of the box codes.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I think Posi explicitly posted that it wouldn't. The two character slot deal was specifically for boxes purchased before Sept. 14th. After that, that part of the offer was withdrawn.

I think there's still just a bit of complexity here that we don't know about. Zwill posted yesterday acknowledging this fact and (I think) promised an update soon ish. I hope a bit more light is shed. Folks like to know what they're getting.

I just tried it and had no problem sending inf by e-mail from a Premium account to a Free account and claiming it on the Free account.

That's curious considering a free account isn't supposed to have email access.

Hmm...

Sure you don't mean VIP and Premium account? An account that has spent nothing on the game is Free, and should not be able to use email at all. Most accounts created before I21 launched were converted to Premium accounts, not Free.

Yeah I think people are confusing the terms Free and Premium. I guess most other games that advertise hybrid model call their à la carte model Free. I've given up trying to correct people in in-game chat. Probably a loosing battle.

The difference between Free and Premium is only how much you spent anyway. Not a huge deal.

Hey, can we see what the reward level of a player is by inspecting their badges? You need the Trustworthy badge before you are a Premium, right? I just thought of that. Sorry if the answer's totally obvious to everyone else, sometimes my brain is like that.

From what I understand you only get the two free slots if GR was part of your account before the head start and not after.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Yes, I'm sure. If you don't believe me, try it yourself. My understanding is that Free players can't send mail but can accept them fine.

This is what I've run across as well. Gave a little inf to a returning player having trouble purchasing basic DOs and the like through email when I wasn't allowed to trade directly with him. He was returning on a new account because he couldn't remember how to access his old one, and was unable to send tells, join an SG, etc. etc.

Okay, so drop trading doesn't work at all?
I saw that it isn't working with insps, but it also doesn't work with enhancies or salvage?
But e-mail does? (as long as they're lvl 10)...

That seems kinda.... odd.
It's like locking the front door with double bolts and chains, but leaving the back patio door wide open.

Claiming email has nothing to do with level. Sending email is dependent on account status (Premium or VIP) and level (10+).

Email can go in, but email can't come out. An RMT can't sell anything off of a free account. Perhaps the drop-trade system is like a shortcut version of the trade window, which is two-way, and thus disabling the trade window means disabling drop-trading. Or something.

Anyways, just claimed an email with attachment on a sub-10 character on my free account. This is good to know!
