What do I do?!?

There's a spider above our bed, and it's really clumsy looking. It keeps falling from the ceiling, but luckily it hasn't fallen on my bed (manages to hang from a web). I want to get rid of it by killing it or capturing it and throwing it outside, but my girlfriend is in bed asleep and she doesn't like spiders. Do I wake her up and tell her to get out of the room, or do I leave the spider and hope it doesn't fall on our bed and wake her itself?

Use the boost... Sorry couldn't resist. But at least I had SOME restraint

I would prefer to be woken up and told to evacuate, than have a spider land on my head from a botched strike.

Truth be told, don't wake her as it's all a wash. With the amount of spiders that crawl all over us in our sleep on a nightly basis...

While the whole 'Eating 4 spiders in your sleep" deal is a myth, what isn't a myth is that we get invesitgated by house spiders almost nightly, only ever getting bitten if we move or roll on them.

Unless it's a venomous kind that is, then I wouldn't take the chance. (I'd also call an exterminator the next day.)

I almost have some weird fear of Karma concerning spiders, I don't kill them, I always try to rescue them and release outside. Unless they are really big and dangerous. This way my creepy crawly karma gets built up and I get left alone.

With it being 'clumsy' it's more than likely on it's last few hours and losing it's grip on the ceiling. I'd just hold a cup over it and then slide a piece of paper over the opening.

I let it make it's way slowly to the window, so it could hide behind the curtain.

Absolutely agree with Maestro, build up your spider karma

Unless a spider is directly noticed by someone who doesn't like them I tend to leave them be, after all they are only an issue if they trigger arachnophobia. Think of all the other smaller creepy crawlies these spiders are keeping in check within your house ecosystem.

Of course if you live somewhere with venomous spiders then it's a different matter and they should be dealt with fittingly (preference would still be catch and release though).

There was a spider in the living room last night, pretty big and it was sat on the wall almost directly above the resident arachnophobe. I didn't say anything and this morning it's vanished once more.

What they don't know, won't hurt them in this case and there's far more spiders about than they realise

The only good spider... is a dead spider.

They hunt for insects they say, they keep them out of your room. If he was my employee, he was 'permanent terminated' for doing a very very bad job.

I may have to eat it. No point killing it then wasting it.

I also believe in a creey crawly based karma.

The more I kill the less of them there are to terrorise me.

Pull off one leg and toss it outside. Repeat as necessary.

Spiders are awesome, leave em alone and they will keep your house clear of all manner of creepy crawlies and flying bugs.

The corollary to this is: Keep your house clear of creepy crawlies and flying bugs, and spiders won't come in to eat them.

one thing you need to remember is that if you have too few spiders in your immediate environment you are likely to suffer a prolonged invasion of carnivorous pygmy clowns. It is a well established fact that spiders keep these particular clowns at bay.

What do you do?
Anything but sit down at your PC and post about it on some forum - it's not very superheroic.

You sure it's not: Keep your house clear of creepy crawlies and flying bugs, and the spiders that wander in will have to feed on you instead.

Unless they're REALLY big, they'll only get away with that once... at best.

^This

I love spiders, they have free reign in my house (unless they get eaten by my toddler but that's part of the circle of life)

Used to feed house spiders, and any other luckless indoor arthropods, to my pet scorpion.

It being the lucky indoor arthropod?

Unless you fed it to itself of course, in which case you're a monster and should probably be auditioning for the next Saw movie.
