Widescreen at Character Select/Costume Creator

This was reported during beta and it was said that we would see a fix for it soon after the launch of I21.

Well.. we're well after the launch of I21, and the aspect ratio still annoyingly downsizes itself to a non-widescreen state whenever you're at character creation/selection, or costume creation.

It's not as annoying as when the screen stutters between full/wide screen when you toggle in and out of the screen or change zones. >.<

Holy crap, is that why my screen resizes every time I zone?

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Quite sad that this item is still in place. We've gone 'free' and players are being introduced to this game, with such a glaring annoyance. I expected at least some feedback, if no action was possible.

Pinnacle & Virtue:
A bunch of Heroes - Alpha Team, Legion of Order.
A bunch of Villains -Black Citadel , Pinnache.

He He. I was wondering about and annoyed with that, too, but didn't think it disruptive enough to warrant a complaint.

Do you simply mean that the screen isn't filled (vertical letterbox), or do you mean that 4:3 screens are being stretched to fill a widescreen display?

There's a black letterbox on the side that isn't filling in where once it did. This is new with the launch of I21.

Yes, the animosity continues as it seems as if the left and right hands weren't talking to eachother during this particular development phase. ;-)

I was actually seeing this, or a related issue, LONG before i21. Possibly as far back as i16 (or farther), my wide aspect load screens were getting distorted/narrowed to fit a smaller screen... on my wide-screen monitor.

I eventually gave up seeing a fix for this as a "non-game-breaking bug". That's a long list, by the way...

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

What are you talking about?

He means that when using the character creator/costume creator on a widescreen monitor it displays within a vertical letterbox.

On my 16:9 monitor this section of the game has been displayed at 4:3 (with vertical letterboxing) since i21.

Not game breaking and it doesn't negatively impact the ability to create characters and/or costumes. It is however annoying

I don't understand what is annoying about that... I think that was the intent of my original question.

Nothing inherently, but annoyance is very subjective.

However 4:3 is very late 20th century

Not sure I'd use the word 'annoying' precisely, but it's not good. It smacks of laziness, it looks cheap and outdated, and more to the point it's not doing something that the game already did before the update - it's a nonsensical step backwards, especially given that the game can evidently still tell when it's in widescreen mode because the black bars are only present in that situation.

I must be one of the few people who hasn't seen this at all. I have a wide-screen, using it in the recommended setting, and have never had a problem with the game running in WS. No black bars, no flickers when I zone, no re-sizing.

Wait. I just double checked what I was seeing. In the Character Creator it is set as 4:3 aspect ratio. I think tho that this is WAI? Remember they have to account for the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator). Not everyone running a rig has a widescreen! For me the game itself runs in 16:9 with no zoning or re-sizing issues.

This is what I was on about in my last sentence there. The CC only displays the pillarboxes when the game is set to a widescreen resolution - if it didn't, the same screen on a 4:3 would be horribly squished into the middle. This means the game is already rendering something different for widescreen displays here, it's just that whoever implemented this interface apparently took the cop-out option of 'stick pillarboxes on it' rather than adapting it to the wider field.
