If you were to make a Hercules inspired alt would it be a brute or tank?
Tough call, I wouldn't use shield, there aren't many depictions of him with a shield.
Quite a few images and statues show him with a club, so war mace is a possibility. Rarely see him with a shield so I'm not sure if I would use that set. Super strength is also a possibility due to him strangling the lion of Nemea, but some of the attacks and their animations don't feel right to me, especially foot stomp and clap.
If I was making the character, I think I would pick a willpower war mace tanker, but that's just me. The most difficult part will be the costume, most of the classical images of Heracles show him nude.

Hmm, I suppose that I'd go with the Brute (or, personally, Scrapper would remain a possibility for me) for the added damage as his strength.
His durability really remains well represented, given that none of us can really die in this game anyway... And a Brute just does a better job than most.
Also... It could be interesting to see what options Titan Weapons bring... As seeing Hercules wield a giant maul could be fitting.
Still... I'd likely go SS/WP or Inv Brute.
Although, it has been a while since I've read through the Heracles (the REAL Hercules) stories I own.

If his last few acts are any indication, you MUST go with Willpower. No question.
The others, SS or Mace, but I'd be inclined with SS.
/dude, having having had your skin/flesh/guts ripped out/off by your own hands trying to rid yourself of a robe what burned you due to it's being tained with Hydra blood? And then wander about AND WAIT IN AGONY while someone else builds you a pyre, then wait some more to find someone to light it, and then walk upon it and plonk yourself down on it? Hardcore Willpower, definitely.

We did discuss mace for his alt but I pointed out that the mace of Hercules may be quasi indestructible but that it is being used by the titanic strength of HERCULES.
The trouble is though, this game doesn't have the ability to reflect character stats such as strength, intelligence, and the like. Just because a set is named Super Strength doesn't doesn't mean that anyone not taking the set can't have great strength.
A brute would put out higher damage and you can use that to depict the strength but I don't agree with the fact that only those with super strength are capable of herculean feats of strength, this game doesn't work that way.
And like I said earlier, some of super strengths powers do not reflect Heracles. Rage might represent him loosing his temper the the crash doesn't fit with the myths. The same with foot stomp and hand clap, they seem out of character to me. Heracles used a bow, he didn't hurl hunks of concrete. He used a sword and scythe on occasion but his main weapon was a club, plain and simple. Besides you have to posses great strength to defeat the enemies we fight with just a hunk of wood.
So if I were making this concept (remember, this is only my opinion) I would either use war mace or reserve the name and wait until I see the weapon options and animations for the upcoming titan weapons set.

As far as hand clap, well, who the heck takes hand clap?
Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?
Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
I have a minotaur-inspired SS brute, and the footstomp looks KILLER with the large hooves...
But, for most of my SS toons, I use the fist punch.
War Mace / Willpower is the one that fits best to me.

Definately Brute over Tank because a Tank just doesn't have the kind of damage of a SUPER STRENGTH god. I'd also have to agree with Willpower due to his dying in the myths as was previously stated.
I would say Super Strength over Mace just for the sake of, though yes somebody with a mace could have super human strength, however what people remember Hercules (Or Heracles if you prefer the greek or the roman tales over each other) is by verbatim, Super Strength. Yeah, some of the animations look kind of funny, but it still fits conceptually better in my opinion.
Because while on the forums, where people can get on and see the Hercules stuff and comment if they know about it, when you get into the game and you have the masses sending you tells 'If ur hercules, y u no super sterngth???' you'll get rather annoyed with that too.
I'd go w/ brute. And I'd go w/ SS/WP. Hercules was tough, but not invulnerable. Also the WP bonus you get for multiple targets attacking you is AMAZING. I've got WP's and I've got Invuls. Not a lot of difference in their survivability. Really depends on which mobs you're fighting.

I would say, for starters, make it a tank. The Barbarian costume set will help greatly with this. And while Hercules has super strength, he also has the mace. So i would recommend a shield/mace tank.
A pal of mine were debating this in game the other day. If someone were to make a Hercules inspired toon (the mythological Hercules NOT the Marvel comic Hercules), should it be a brute or a tank?
Obviously super strength and perma rage, but should it be:
1. Inv/SS tank?
2. SS/Inv brute?
3. SS/WP brute?
4. WW/SS tank?
5. Shield/SS tank?
6. SS/Shield brute?
We ruled out things like sword/shield scrapper since Hercules is all about strength.
