Hand waving in City of...
This seems to be more Gameplay and Story Segregation than a hand wave.
EDIT: A hand wave is a flimsy excuse for a retcon, like why did Jason Todd come back to life? Because Superboy Prime punched the walls of reality.
Story Arcs I created:
Every Rose: (#17702) Villainous vs Legacy Chain. Forget Arachnos, join the CoT!
Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!
Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!
How about all those game arcs that keep insisting that my purely robotic characters have things like DNA and blood?
My Elec^3 Blaster should also have power over magnetism as a consequence of his mastery of electricity, but the closest you can get to this in-game currently is MAYBE FF and/or Grav, but he's a Blaster so both of those are out anyway.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
rian's martial arts style is a combination of muai thai, tang soo do, capoeria, shaolin 5 animal kung fu, drunken monkey kung fu, hapkido, brazilian jujutsu, and 7 star praying mantis kung fu...not arthritic tae kwon do kicks and some ok punches.
as for things that are funny, i occasionally save people with my triform peacebringer "Pax" who run up and say they want their children to grow up just like him..when he is in the form of a giant flying tapeworm...guess they aren't hung up on grandkids.
My melee characters aren't just standing in one place while they fight badguys, especially my /SRs or anyone with high defense. They're running and dodging around, avoiding attacks via mobility.
I have a ghost who's transparent thanks to a stealth IO in Hover. He totally doesn't go completely visible when I switch to Fly, or get mezzed or defeated, I swear!
No, my Praetorian isn't from Primal Earth. I don't know who you're talking about. Stateswho?

I've had to deal with this issue that the game "won't let me express my character's concept properly" problem a few times. One of my more obvious cases has to do with a lack of a particular costume item that, after 7+ years, still eludes me.
I created a character way back then which was completely tech-based, even to the point that she is supposed to be using a "Buzz Lightyear" style fixed wing jet pack while flying. Back when I created her I blindly assumed it would only be a "matter of time" before that kind of costume item was introduced to the game. Now obviously in the last 7 years there have been several temp power jetpacks introduced that almost fit the bill for what I had in mind. But none of them are are costume based OR have the fixed wing look I've always wanted. Even the Tech wings we do have flap like a silly robot bird.
I'm still hoping that I'll get what I want for this character before the game ends...

My Stone/Energy Brute, Nerima Girl, is a martial artist with a Natural origin. She has a heroic personality despite her destructive nature, but ended up in the Rogue Isles for a long time because she doesn't understand English very well and was terribly confused. (She finally figured things out and moved to Paragon City though.)
My main, Kronaros, is literally a story told by an omnicient diety that comprises the entirety of human creativity and history given humanoid form and granted powers that, in my mind, make him tougher than most Archvillains. And while he CAN solo AV's, he can still get knocked out by a rock to the back of the head.
Granted, this isn't really the game's fault, it's my fault for coming up with bugnuts crazy character concepts.

For example:
Dal is only truly proficient in sharp weapons. Someone asks him why, he just shrugs, and the plot continues without addressing it.
Also, why can't he just put one weapon away and start using dark magic instead of bright? (Well, he has to prepare himself mentally and spiritually to draw on that darkness within him, so he can't just flop between.)
Not detailed, but just a brush off with a short or nonexistent explanation.
Dawncaller - The Circle of Dawn
Too many blasted alts to list, but all on Virtue.
My namesake is a sort of amalgamation of an Angel, an Illusion, and a Hindu deity, as a result he has 6 arms and 6 wings... something the game will never support.
There are also a few very,.. macabre details the game won't allow me to represent.
Oh, and also, he's actually 3 characters at different points in his storyline. He starts off a FF/Psi Defender, then goes rogue and becomes a Dark/Psi Dominator* then is redeemed and becomes a Peacebringer.
*Obviously his Dark/Psi versions doesn't exist yet. ::crosses fingers::
Dialogue.
Lots of it, both what is said to be coming from my character and what is being said to him, conflicts with the character's personality or fundamental lack of humanity. I pretend a lot of it isn't there and make up my own reasons for being in the warehouse or cave, etc.
One good example is my part-Devouring Earth Praetorian. He is well aware of a lot of things going on in good old Praetoria simply by virtue of his... parentage (for lack of a better word). As such, some of the 'mystery' isn't all that mysterious to him.
Other examples include characters, like my Batman-esque Stalker who owns a prestigious science and technology company. Lots of things reference you needing or otherwise depending on the contact for one thing or another, mostly, he doesn't.
And of course there are the characters that are a current or former member of one enemy group or another that are never acknowledged as such while they play the game.
No, not the emote.
But things that are "canonically true" about your character that the game cannot support.
For instance, my namesake character, Kitsune9tails, is a shapechanger of the "turn into anything: an exact replica of your wife to the DNA level, a teapot you can brew piping hot tea in, the moon..." level. Which is represented in the game by ...Stealth (granted, she doesn't get the appropriate powers of the form, and she always has to have a depiction of a fox tail obviously visible, but you get the idea).
I have another character that is always flying/hovering rather than walking (she is made of gravitic force fields, plasma, and stuff like that there). Never mind when she has to Rest, or land to cast pets, or...
Yet another character is an enchanted porcelain doll. That somehow caught the Vahzilok plague...?
Anyway, post here to laugh, rant and tease about various things you 'hand wave' in-game about your character and their interactions with others, the story, and the world.
