Extreme example, but if the customer was "always right," that's what you'd do - and you'd then be out of business in a month.
If they argue enough we give them the item free or double money back.

...not enough cheeze in the world for all the whine in these last 13 pages. Your lives are so devistated by not playing you want compensation? It's really that bad?

Talk about Jonesing....

(that means an addict craving their fix)

I can wait for whatever the owners want to do to make play better in the future. Can you imagine the whineage if they didn't do this? With Free-to-play vastly increasing the server load I'm thinking there'd be nothing but problems with that, worse than you'd believe I bet.

Besides, game costs by the hour is about .02 cents an hour, 12 hours is .24 cents. What do you want for your .24 cent loss?


36 level 50's in various servers...haven't been here in a while. It's now over 50

Not really fussed about compensation myself, just frustrated about the down time we have had to put up with.

Jeeze. Small contender? By MMO standards, they're NOT a small player on the market. Only compared to the bloated mutation that is WoW, are they "small". WoW is an OUTLIER. CoH is more normal for the industry, and an unparalleled success story.

.24 cents sounds reasonable too.

Currently, I am debating should I go outside to wash my car windows? It is 86 degrees already and the high is supposed to be 92....I don't want to burn my hand lol.

Moving the servers explains the long downtime, but not sure why that's kept to Facebook and not published somewhere on this site. Despite popular belief not everyone currently on the planet uses Facebook

Once CoH:Freedom comes out of Open Beta I'm sure things will be much more stable, although I do wonder why 'VIPs' are paying to test things.

Still at least that won't be necessary in the not too distant future.

This is a HARDWARE move. It was just spelled out in the UStream as to what was going on here.

They JUST upgraded a couple weeks ago. I HONESTLY don't think they'd have planned two successive hardware upgrades this close together. It makes no sense. Either from a financial perspective OR a work-process standpoint.

If they had ever said "Your subscription guarantees you access to the game at any time you like, regardless of any maintenance wemay need to do to our physical machines" you might have an argument.

They've never said that though. You pay for access to the game. That doesn't mean you paying will force them to put off necessary maintenance and hardward upgrades until it better suits your schedule.

They already had their staff come in at midnight or so (their time) in order to work on this as early as possible. What the hell else do you want from them? Free stuff because them doing their jobs inconvenienced you?

It sucks for the EU and Oceanic players who keep having this stuff happen during their prime playtime, but you have to remember that it usually occurs during normal working hours for where the servers are actually located (Northern California)

Let me ask you, would YOU be willing to come into work at the exact opposite time from your normal schedule just to avoid inconveniencing someone who lives on the other side of the world, which would then inconvenience the vast majority of your paying customers? If the servers were located in Korea (where NCSoft is based), the downtime would be happening during the Korean work day, and then the Oceanic players would be fine while NA players are screwed.

They have to do it SOMETIME, and they have access to the exact numbers of people online at any given time, so I can only assume they do this stuff when it would inconvenience the FEWEST possible people.

All the more reason to offer compensation.

If a shipment is delayed we offer the customers an alternative at a reduced price or even free.
