So now that MA has been proliferated to Tankers and Storm Kick has been given a 10s 10% defense buff, what sets do you feel best take advantage of this powerset? I was thinking that this added defense buff would help the resistance based sets get to soft cap better, but I am far from an expert.

Any ideas?

Most of the Tanker Defense-based sets can fairly easily reach the Defense soft cap. As such, I would think that you're right in assuming that resistance-based sets will get a lot out of Storm Kick's bonus. However, Defense-based sets will probably get a lot of mileage out of it in the lower levels, too. Hybrid sets like Invuln and Willpower though, will probably like it the most.

Yeah I was thinking that Inv or Will, and even Elec Armor may get some heavy duty work out of this bonus. That extra 10% will allow for a little more freedom in IO set bonuses too.

Slightly off topic, but the patch notes say Storm Kick also got a 3sec dam buff of 33%, true?

I had a granite/MA on test, the 10% extra hits granite by base nearly softcapped, a very cheap way to reach it so you can fully focus on IO's for recharge, dmg or extra healing.

Though the rest of the set looks plain funny on a granite with rooted

I'm going for an elec/ma build that'll have ~43% defense to melee, range, and aoe with storm kick.


SG: Guadians of Paragon - VG: Paragon's Darkness
The Usual Suspects: Fimboolvetr (Icer Tank), Tsukiyomi (Mind/Psi/Ice Dom), Smiting Dragon (Dm/Sr Scrap), Widow Mortis (NW)
Up and Comers: Ameterasu (Km/Reg Scrap), Arrhymian (Elec/Nin Stalk), TDMKII (Bot/Traps MM)

Fire, Electric or Dark seem like good fits.

- Storm Kick's defence bonus helps you build up layered defence.
- The 33% damage burst from Eagle's Claw (not Storm Kick) works well with a damage aura, because it doesn't cost animation time in those precious 3 seconds.
- The damage aura helps with not having any area attacks until level 35.

I just rolled up a Elec/MA and so far Im having fun with it, though its a bit end heavy (now I remember why I deleted my only other electric armor tank) we will see where it goes...

My Dark/Fire has been rerolled to a Dark/MA.

-Storm Kick will let me build 10% less of S/L and E/N defense and still keep the softcap.
-The above frees up more room in the build for Max HP and Recharge.
-Cobra Strike will allow me to stack stuns with Oppressive Gloom on bosses if I need it.
-Dragon Tail has knockdown to give me some wide breathing room for Dark Regenerations.
-Eagle Claw will allow me to look freaking awesome.

This tank will be everything my old tank was, and more.

shield/MA or SR/MA would prolly get the best benefit out of it since they already have a ton of defense, so you could focus on building for other things

I'm currently playing a Shield / MA character and I must say that it's an incredibly good combo early on: 25% to all positional defenses by level 4 without enhancements is kind of awesome. AAO's damage bonus works well with MA's hefty single target attacks, and Shield Charge helps to compensate for MA's weakness in area of effect.

I've always enjoyed the MA set for its style, and I think the Tanker version has been extremely well designed.

The set indeed is pretty nice, the bad side personaly that Storm kick only gives good synergy with Shield, all the other sets are based on typed defense. True, it can softcap any other set that picks up defense powers (weave, manu, CJ), or provide 'decent' defense on the gap most sets have: psionic.

On WP it becomes a 'bit of each' system, bit typed, bit location defense, but they nulify eachother.

And Crane kick, i hate that power, luckely 1 power that you can skip

Btw, Mid's say Eagle Claw gives a 33% dmg bonus, thats correct?

And EC does give a 33% dmg buff. there's like a 2.5sec lag to it, though, after EC connects.

The ingame tooltip still says only positional. So unless thats a tooltip error or a 'future' chance, its not in the game afaik.

I'm working on a Dark Armor/Martial Arts build that hits the positional soft cap and has capped Psi resistance. I know the soft cap is possible with Storm Kick as per the build I cobbled together last night, but the build was not at all endurance friendly. If I can fix the build's end problems we'll be in business I think.

Mostly just running into a slot shortage.

Hey Claws, remember my old tank's build? The S/L/E/N softcapped thing?

I just redid the build in Mids yesterday, but with Martial Arts.

I still hit the softcap for S/L/E/N and got 10% added to everything else. I added over 150 hitpoints and regenerate about 3 more HP/second. I also got an extra 4 seconds of recharge on Dark Regeneration. I used 2 less Kinetic Combat sets, don't have any powers acting as set mules, and threw Darkest Night in for extra cushion. Oh, and I can stack stuns. And KD in a PBAoE. And I managed to fit Build Up.

The best part of it all? It fits his concept better and makes him look ****ing awesome.

/MA was the best thing to happen to my DA tank.

/MA is just plain good for tanks, period. I don't think EC's buff is working properly with that lag before it kicks in, though. Does anyone else have a similar experience with it?

If you're monitoring your +dmg and use EC the 33% doesn't get added immediately when EC finished, like I think it's supposed to work. It's an extra couple seconds before it registers. EC>TK>SK>then the dmg buff kicks in is what I've been experiencing.
