Okay Thunder Claws, aside from the aforementioned 10.5.8 fix, did you try and/or change anything else before posting here?

Only the fix mentioned at the start of this thread.

Okay TC, this may have to wait until CuppaManga gets back, as he is the true expert, but I'll continue to do what I can while I have no Mac visual to work with. Bear with me as I am entertaining all possibilities.

Try opening the Launcher and clicking "No" to avoid the immediate Cider download. Then click on the little triangle next to "City of Heroes" to expand the menu. Double click "Repair," let it run, then try to launch the game. Post what happens after that.

Wishing I would have known that button was there from the start...
It's running now.
Currently says "Checking downloaded file..." and "Please Wait!".
Been on that for about 3 minutes so far. Hoping this works.

Okay, that "Please wait!" prompt lasts forever, as I discovered a day or two ago. Don't bother hitting cancel, just quit the NCLauncher.

Open it up again, and this time allow Cider to patch when prompted, and see if it works.

Well, after running out of patience and clicking cancel, I restarted the launcher. Clicked Yes when told an update was available. Noticed the game tried to launch and then crashed. Reloaded the Launcher, clicked no when prompted to update and it launched. So at the very least I can log in now.

Well good, at least you have game access!

Just so we have a record of where you are at (and correct me if I'm wrong): The NCLauncher opened and you were prompted to update, which you declined, and then encountered no problem after clicking "Play Now." If that's the case, it sounds like the NCLauncher is trying to patch an already updated Cider, but I cannot know for sure. Glad you are in the game!

Yes, after allowing it to update when prompted the first time, it crashed. So when prompted now, as long as I select no, the game will launch. Tried it a couple of times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Have seen the new log-in screen and all the servers are up, however they are closed to the public.

The transgaming folder is underneath "tgApplyPatch".
I am not finding transgaming or "tgApplyPatch" There are several ".nib" folders? I just checked and I'm running 10.6.8 on this machine if this helps?

Hmm, after preparing myself for a day of uppity rightiousness, I updated and logged on same as usual with no problems. (other than those that everyone seems to have: no points, no store etc)

The game still crashes when it has decided I have played it enough, but I have come to think that is normal behavior.

I'm on the most recent Snow Leopard.

I do not have a Mac. But I do feel for you guys and all the stuff you are having to go through, to get things working. It may be a comfort to know the servers appear to be down. Again. CoH Freedom, now with equality to its OS hating.

I apologize if you thought that was a jab at you or any of the other folks trying to help out. I appreciate the work you guys have put in and shared even though you didn't have to. I honestly think you guys need to be rewarded by the people behind the scenes of CoX because in the end this is their mess that may not have been an issue had they listened to Mac users and included us earlier.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

No apologies necessary man, no personal offense taken. Hell, I was agreeing with you, haha! But hopefully with the version of the NCLauncher that went live roughly 12 hours ago, and the fixes to the Store that we hope to see within the next week, we won't have to worry about these particular issues much longer.

Your sympathy is appreciated, but it's no more a comfort that Windows players were missing out because of server outage than Mac players having such trouble with their client. Ideally, CoH players would be all in this together. As the situation stands, there's a troubling pattern developing in terms of Paragon delivering. Here's hoping for a smoother VIP head start once the launch is done.

The only way we GET that support is to be vocal.
OK you are right, I'm just throwing a temper tantrum. I'm just to sick of this game causing so many issues on my Mac, when everything else I play from every other game company out there plays just fine on my Mac. Its taken a lot of the joy I have out of this game when I find myself crashing incessantly, having to run gimmicky workarounds to play in a stable fashion, lower my graphics standards, etc. It annoys the heck out of me.

Now that temper tantrum is over, I'll state this:

1) I was able to patch and log into Exalted last night on all three of my Macs. The graphics are a bit wonky but I'm playing with that. Right now I'm experiencing really bad "pop in" redraw effects and I'm not sure whats changed from old settings to new but I'll keep tweaking until I either break it or improve it if possible.

2) Once the Paragon Market opened up this AM, I've been in and successfully made several purchases. I even bought more points (here we go.......) and did encounter a small error there but it wasn't one of the readabiliy or crashing errors. Fonts look fine, game plays fine after accessing market (I was in there for 20 minutes). But I got the "verify account" screen in the marketplace after making my purchase and it won't accept my security information (which is 100% correct). So that's a bug of some kind. Logging out of game and back in got me access to marketplace again and completed my transactions just fine.

So as of right now...game is working. Even on my wee little Macbook Air. Graphics are a bit sub-optimal but I'll keep tweaking and report back.

Wow...it never rains, but it pours. Not being able to log into the forums was really annoying. Thank god someone figured out the "reset you game password" solution.

Anyway, on 10.5.8 things are looking fairly good. I am able to get into the game, launcher updated properly and the store seems to have most if not all of it's fonts in place.

On my first and only store purchase the games crashed when I hit the final purchase button. Good news is that the purchase went through fine. I'll try another purchase once I feel ready to part with more of my precious points.

Thanks for staying up late, Zwillinger. And thanks for this great Mac community.

Yeah when I go to download the new patch from the Mac launcher that I've used before; It all downloads and then at the end it says that the patch could not be downloaded successfully:/

I got that once too, but it didn't happen a 2nd time. It's making it hard to figure out.

I've got Lion on my iMac and any time I open the store it still crashes. I even tried to reinstall it via the instructions at the start of this post. (though I realized later it was for if you had trouble patching.)

My husband, who has a MacBook Pro and has Snow Leopard can access the store without crashing. (He mainly plays on a PC though)

Hey Cuppa (and all Mac forumites),

I just came back to CoH after a couple months of burnout break. I had no trouble updating my client on 10.6, and Freedom launches with no more issues than old CoH did (meaning I still get infernal lag in Ultra Mode, but I mke do if I tone it down some. Frustrating but manageable.)

What I find interesting - and thought I'd mention to you - is that I can access the Paragon Market... For about 5 minutes on average. It seems to suffer from the same leakage as the base editor, which means that the game will let me poke around, then all of a sudden decide it's had enough and crash me back to the Finder. No warning, no freeze, just the app disappearing in an almost elegant way. I managed to actually buy stuff off the Market before getting ejected yesterday, and the purchases were validated when I came back.

I'll admit I haven't tried the tricks you outlined in the OP (mainly because I wasn't sure if they were still relevant) and the fact that I don't crash immediately makes me wonder if what I have is the same bug you describe. Before I mess with my package content any more than I have to, I'd like your opinion. Pretty please?

While I'm not Cuppamanga, I can all but guarantee your crashing issue is pretty standard. Likewise, if I spend more than a few minutes in the store at any one time, I crash. Granted, I freeze and have to restart the computer, but the bug is in essence the same.

Basically, the client has reached a point where it is pretty much the same as it was, and the the store is accessible and readable, with the exception that you shouldn't spend more than a couple minutes in the store at any one time. Just limit your time in there and you should be fine.

Oh, and welcome back!
