I heard that there was supposedly a Dev showing off an early version of a wall climbing travel power... I'm not sure if it's true, but that might be happening sometime soon in the future.
I think with Freedom & the Paragon Market on the horizon, the Devs will know that a new travel power would sell like hot cakes... we all know literally* everyone would be willing to pay several bucks for something like that. And, you could say there's a 'vehicle' that's going to be in i21... the Hoverboard (as a temp power in the market)! Sure, not a car or batmobile, but it's still a vehicle (and, really, we could make a case for jet packs being vehicles if we wanted to be smart ***** ). *On the internet, "literally" is a synonym of "figuratively" |
I'll always be a "Champion" at heart. My server away from home.

I want that as a travel power. The whole thing. With a mountain just appearing in front of you.
As an animation for zone-wide tp.
Perhaps we could get some kind of "elemental slide" power. Marvel's Iceman, for example, gets around by creating an ice slide, which would work very well for cold-themed characters. You could do something similar with earth and stone.
On second though, though, it might be tough to animate - all those slides would clutter up the streets of Paragon and the Isles. Still...
I am wondering about something. Its ok wanting a swing travel power set but what will be other 4 powers? Other than a swing kick I can't think much without going a web-only concept and I don't think it will be done unless there is more general ideas about it. Othwerwise swing can be just added like ninja run or hoverboard.

seriously I want the scorpion power, I would go street justice and my battle cry would be "Test Your Might". I would add "WOO HOO" to the uppercut and the bubble in "Finish him" and "Fatality"
Other powers could be be an AoE knockdown (you wrap their feet and pull to trip them) a pull kick where you latch to the mob and you're pulled together for a flying kick (two feet to the chest), a single target knockdown or hold, or maybe a team jump (you allow everyone to latch on in a 15 foot radius and warp to the spot you're grappling to (similar to team teleport but you don't hover and it would be more to get the jump on a group or get retreat (dead bodies could be moved this way too)
Just some ideas but it's one of the more viable ones to give a power pool vs wall climb and ice slide.

Honestly, I'd rather Swinging be a singe purchasable power
But, since all it is is a function of his leg strength, it is logical to assume that any character with super strength should be capable of it (assuming their super strength is not a side effect of them being particularly dense, which means they will be very heavy as well).

Hulk is one of few characters that actively USES Super Jump.

In comicdom, the Thing is a good example of one not being able to jump far despite being superstrong. Gray Hulk once beat him by super-jumping away from him, forcing Thing to huff-&-puff run to catch up, wearing him out in the process.
Did I mention it also has machine guns and missiles? That'd make for another power in the pool.

Heck, I'd be happy if one of the pool powers was just a toggle that played the theme tune..
What abt flash stepping a'la naruto or bleach? that would be cool.
Well you can be strong without being fast. Being able to jump far has as much to do with fast-twitch muscle movement (or the superhero equivalent) is as important as strength.

Awesome
I figured TP comes quite close to this. Maybe a less...boring animation would be good though.

I was thinking about this the other day, specifically thinking that they could turn Beast and Ninja Run into their own power pools.
Ninja Run may have powers like:
- Ninja Run: still free, still unslottable, just part of a "pool" now.
- Double Jump: auto power that allows you to double-jump while using Ninja Run. (Or, if that's impossible, clone Jump Pack and give Ninja Run a permanent jump-height increase.)
- Shadow Walker: click power that briefly grants you full invisibility. Ideally it would be sufficient when stacked with other stealth powers to briefly hide you from mobs with increased perception. Choosing this power gives Ninja Run a permanent stealth bonus, similar in magnitude to Super Speed.
- Distraction: a PBAoE placate-style power that (a) requires a to-hit check and (b) only works against "weaker" mobs (in the same way that Teleport Foe won't teleport bosses). Choosing this power gives Ninja Run a permanent threat level reduction, again similar to Super Speed.
- Blink: A short-range, instant-cast teleport power that grants a small defensive bonus for a short time after use. Essentially Lightning Rod, but without any damage. Activation should be as close to "instant" as possible. This power will permanently increase Ninja Run's run and jump speed.
- Best Run: still free, still unslottable, just part of a "pool" now.
- Pounce: A single-target, shield bash style attack. Damage and knockdown similar to Air Superiority. Choosing this power will permanently increase Beast Run's jump height.
- Flight or Fight: A click power that will significantly increase all of your movement speeds for a short time and grants a bonus to all defense. Isn't subject to travel power suppression. Choosing this power will permanently increase Beast Run's run and jump speed.
- Growl: A PBAoE click fear power, that can only effect "weak" mobs.
- Blood Rage: PBAoE click power that grants you a small damage and recharge boost for each nearby defeated mob.
Now, the design here assumes that Ninja and Beast Run would remain unslottable "free" powers (i.e. not requiring a power pick), and that they wouldn't count against your Power Pool limit unless you picked a second power from each pool. I have no idea if something like this is possible, I just think it would be neat to add in "travel powers" that are more theme-specific.
Edit to add: Obviously, I don't know anything about any plans for adding actual new travel powers. What I wanted to see is if I could come up with enough additional powers from the free-travel power concepts to actually create full pools. I think I have.
+1 for burrowing. Bugs Bunny clones everywhere!
Also:
Human Cannonball - like superjump, but can launch you across an entire zone in one blast... provided that no buildings get in your way.
Taxi - once every 30 minutes, you can summon a taxi that will drop you off at a random point in a non-hazard zone of your choosing.
Gridrunner - incredibly fast travel, but only along power lines and power plants.
Gutterrunner - Harness the might of the sewers to spring from any manhole cover or drain, but with a temporary toxic "vomit" debuff after each trip.
Soul Jump (toggle) - Pick your zone, and then your soul (and powers) pop into a random pedestrian for you to control. "Dying" snaps you back to your original body, but not without the debt, of course. Can't be used to enter zones with no pedestrians, like the Hive.
Unreal Tournament had a great mod called "Strangelove" It was a crotch rocket you could fly around on for limited periods. You had to hop off and ditch the rocket before it hit something or ran out of fuel, or you would explode too. You could even swoop in and pickup teammates!
Stay Gold, Paragon. Stay Gold.
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
See, the problem with people wanting a swinging power is that they want a swinging power that works regardless of where you are, a swinging power with no restrictions.
The game already has this. It's called "flight". The only difference between flight and the swinging power people want is the animation.

Just curious on what others think. I know we've gotten new 'travel powers' in terms of beast and ninja runs and such but I mean full 4 (or 5 come i21) powers per set Travel Powers that can be enhanced and such?

Jetpacks (permanent costume jetpacks, not temporary, and not steampunk).
Vehicles (motorcycles, cars, boats, dirigibles, invisible robot planes).
Line swinging.
Wall crawling.
Tunneling.
Instant travel via phone lines (somehow the Atom did this).
Decomposing into the muck and reappearing out of the muck far away (Swamp Thing teleportation).
As we can see from the above, vehicles are the last big category. The rest are niche powers, used only by a few. Vehicles have been desired for almost as long as the game has been live. Cars, motorcycles, stuff that "unpowered" Batman-style characters could use to get around.
The hoverboard is the first thing in the game that characters actually ride. Perhaps the hoverboard is the harbinger of similar rideable machines. I suppose wall crawling is likely to appear eventually, but I bet people will want to take Super-Jump with it because some buildings are rather far apart. (I take Hover with Teleport so I can pause for thought, and Combat Jumping and Hurdle with Super-Speed so I can get over fences and walls easier.)
