Ghostbusters 3 to begin filming in 2012, with or without Bill Murray

According to this Dan Aykroyd states that filming for Ghostbusters 3 will start in 2012 and seems to imply that it will proceed regardless if Bill Murray decides to sign on or not.

It's interesting how many things he says raise flags and yet he seems so hell bent on it being done.

We have an excellent script.
Not sure who wrote this one, but this is a guy who cowrote Blues Brothers 2000 and hasn't really done much of anything in ages.

What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver].
Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis say, "Thanks for remembering us."

It's like somehow in his head that this has to be done when there is simply no need.

When was the team ever about 3 guys and a woman?

I thought Rick Moranis was done with acting?

He is. It just seems odd to only mention part of the cast and being significant contributors.

Perhaps. Though, while I rather enjoyed the original movies, I think the Ghostbusters were better in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon so I don't place quite as much value in the original original crew. The Extreme Ghostbusters had a few good episodes, if one could ignore the overuse of what appeared to me to be a Find Edges filter, but it did feel a bit like they were milking the franchise.

I think running around with a proton pack strapped to my back would be a young person's game.

I'm glad that Ackroyd recognizes that he's old and that he could make a new franchise out of this with a young cast as opposed to a Ghostbusters' version of Golden Girls.

They don't mix, my friend was attacked by a Twilight fan while he was in his ghostbuster gear.

A cast of so-called "pretty boys" who look more like "hit-in-the-face-with-an-ugly-stick boys" that sparkle whenever they cross the streams?

Well, I just had the horrible thought that it'd end up feeling like the new Teen Wolf... Not so much the sparkle from Twilight, but the emo bizzaro love triangle nonsense.

Indeed. Knowing one's limitations can be seen as a sign of wisdom. As for Bill Murray, I think he's talented in many roles he's played and yes he rocked as Venkeman, BUT.......everything I read over the years implied or stated that he was a hold out for a third Ghostbusters, for differing reasons that usually boiled down to the following alleged reasons:

1. Money (a no brainer, but still needs to be listed)
2. Supposed personal problems with some of the cast
3. Wasn't thrilled with Ghostbusters 2

However if after all this time he can't make peace with anyone he has a problem with, or still hates GB2, then they need to move on without him. As the movie was rumored to be more of a Ghostbusters:TNG most of the time then they can pass the torch without Venkeman.

They could simply say Venkeman was killed fighting some super ghost or demon or else that he went missing after a climatic battle and they've never been able to find him. Problem solved.

All I want out of this is the return of the Real ghostbusters, and EctoCoolers.
I also have to admit I'm very bitter with Bill. Everyone knows he's the real reason there was never a follow up to Ghostbusters 2..and now everyone is to old or disinterested to return.

He's also the reason Lorenzo Music was replaced by the inferior Dave Coulier, I believe.

having purchased The Real ghost busters complete series boxset last year I have to say that was a very jarring change...to put it mildly Dave is annoying, and always has been. His voice acting is the same. At least when Winston was changed the replacement attempted to mimic what was done before while slowing working up this own take.

Or that he found a gig that paid a lot better than ghostbusting and left.

Bah, anybody could have played Dana or whatever her name was. Winston was the foundation of the team! He was the rock!

As I understand it, Bill Murray complained that Lorenzo Music didn't sound enough like him. Of course, Lorenzo Music does a better Bill Murray than Bill Murray does, and Dave Coulier was horrible.

All I have to say about a GB3 movie is:

Don't. Just.... don't.

/It would have to be a frakking home run to be worth seeing, IMO.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

Not sure if I want a GB 3 either, but who knows? Get a new crew going and have Ray or Igon pop up in sequels as tech support or something and the franchise could live again.

As to Bill Murray, it's his loss. If he can't get over himself and/or any problems he may have with some of the cast and crew, then too bad for him.

In fact......I just thought of someone that could easily play a Venkeman type of character, and despite his age might be able to run around with a proton pack on his back.

This guy is well known for playing wisecracking characters and he's also known for some action as well.......

......I speak of Bruce Campbell. Just imagine him suited up as a Ghostbuster, not to mention all the ARmy of Darkness and Burn Notice jokes they could put into the movie as well. I can just see him suiting up and charging up the proton pack and gun and saying that magic word:......GROOVY!
