Now *THIS* is for real!
Want! Because I want a HUD for a lot of reasons.
Wow...that is pretty cool.
Though I can see a rash of car accidents from people watching movies while driving...
Wow!
I always love how Science Fiction gets the ideas in advance of the reality, but this is sooooo close to what they use in Torchwood, it's uncanny!
Makes you wonder if they knew about it, or did the makers of these watch Torchwood? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
Someone's been watching a lot of Torchwood. Mind you, fitting new batteries would be a bit of a pain...
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
Augmented reality as a concept is awesome. as a fact... Totally strange.

Oh, oh... how about options? Different styles of health bars, ammo counters, shield and XP gauges.
What if you could hook it up to your phone's GPS and have your own mini-map?
I'm aware of the Torchwood reference here but I prefer to think this was inspired by Futurama's eyePhone myself.

I seem to recall hearing these being predicted at least ten years back, but I can't recall where.

But I predict, like SilverSablinova mentioned, that a lot of people are going to get themselves into various "accidents" trying to use these things whether they are driving cars or just walking down the street.

So far, they've implanted *one* led. Just a pinpoint of light.
The photos you see in the article are photoshopped design concepts.
It would be like having a piston in a laboratory turn over once proving the concept of the combustion engine and writing an article about it with a picture of a Ferrari.
Soooo.... very early proof of concept stage.

But I'd be surprised if it takes more than say 5 years before some version of these become retail-level technology.

And yes, I'm completely aware that the photos are only there for aesthetics, as they are credited to whomever created the concept art. I'm not trying to imply that this article is talking about a real product just days away from being in your local store awaiting your purchase. But placing an LED onto a contact lens is an incredible and plausible step towards the goal they have.
Now stop poopooing on the SCIENCE!

Close your eyes and imagine a world of bright vibrant color.
Better yet, just leave them open and use these contact lenses. Currently, I don't require corrective lenses, but for these I'd wear them anyway. |
