Chupacabra Captured?

it's just a mangy canine of some sort.

Chupacabra would have an entirely different look to it. People are seeing all these stupid claims of seeing one and capturing one and all like that that are just mangy dogs, but much more convincing than that that they've lost the plot and have started calling regular dogs chupacabras now v.v

Also, what an idiot, "I think we have a very mysterious creature that people hav been looking for and has ben terrorizing the area...oh and it might be extremely dangerous to us... I think I'll let it go"

El Chupacabras del Norte, based (very loosely) on an actual animal somebody shot up here in Maine a few years ago. Consensus among wildlife people at the state university was that it was actually some kind of diseased coyote, but it was very close to that weird shade of blue.

Awwwwww.

The Chupacabra is adorable.

Obviously it's not a chupacabra. Those things only eat goats, not chickens and Chinese food. Duh.

Goodbye, I guess.

Why did they let it go?

Most polite chupacabra ever.

Granted, we don't have all that many coyotes in Ohio, but that is one weird looking canine. In all honesty, I wouldn't be all that surprised if this did turn out to be a new species. I mean seriously, just how many different times have we seen a "coyote with mange" now? Is mange really all that common with coyotes or something?

Mange is like any other disease in that it has flares in a population. The last few years we've had an epidemic of mange breakouts throughout North America.

Mange isn't just hairloss, it's a full on skin infection caused by little bugs that burrow into the skin and lay their eggs there. The mites are related to spiders and ticks. Different kinds of mange are caused by different kinds of mites and the severity varies by type. So when there's an outbreak of mange, what that really means is that these mites are reproducing out of control. The hot weather across the country has been favorable for these bugs.

Left untreated, mange kills the infected animal. The reason that coyote (or fox) was so docile is because it's close to the end and it's weak.

Actually, it highly resembles a Xolo, a specific breed of Mexican Hairless dog. Back legs slightly longer than the front, long tail, narrow muzzle, no hair or at most a 'mane' of hair down the spine like a horse has.

Or a cross breed of a Xolo with some other dog. They're not common, but they're not as rare as they used to be, and they get abandoned a lot because the alot of people who get 'specialty' dogs like this are also the kind who get bored of the novelty fairly quick and just dump them out the car one day.

Whatever it is, it's not a 'wild' animal. It didn't seem too concerned with the cage or the people nearby, and while it left when the cage was opened, it didn't take off the way wild animals usually do.

Say, that's a good point. I believe you've solved the mystery.

I thought it was a dog at first, too, for those reasons, but the tail didn't seem right for a Xoloitzcuintle to me and it's far larger than any I've seen. It didn't occur to me that it might be a mix. So I was thinking coyote due to the ears. (My mom had a coydog.) My mother-in-law has Chinese Cresteds and had a Xolo foster for a while... now that you say that, though, I can totally see it. I've only seen toy versions of the breed, so I didn't realize there was a larger size.

Edit; "seen" not "see." D'oh.
