Hi. I'm kinda new to the game, and I wanna know about wings for my character. How can I get my "claws" on a pair?

There are a couple different ways.

Vet rewards unlock them (If you're new to the game, this obviously won't help you for the moment).

Certain booster packs come with wings (Mac pack, Mutant pack, Steampunk pack).

And you can buy others in recipe form off of Wentworths (or get them as random drops) and craft your own.

(click on links for more info)

Go to one of the Markets in the game and click on a rep there and search for wings recipes and buy the one you want. In your recipe window, check out the salvage you need to craft those wings and buy them if you don't have it. Then go to a crafting station (in the RWZ Base or a University) and craft the wings. Then go to a tailor to equip them.

Those are the base wings any new player can get their hands on.

Some other wing choices require buying one of the booster packs or being a Veteran player (see link on wings above).

If you want more precision:

Mac pack (you do not need a mac) gets you the Valkyrie wings (armored and non)
15 month (IIRC) vet reward = angel and demon wings.
Recipes give you tech, cherub, bat, burned, bone... think I'm forgetting one... wings.
Steampunk gives you steampunk wings.
Upcoming I21 tier9 VIP gives you energy-ish wings
and... don't think I'm missing any.

Draconic, insect and fairy wings also.

Just to be clear, this is "buy" with in game money, or Inf. Not a real money transaction. About half of the wings in game are available for free, just trade your shinies to another player for them.

I'm lv25 in Liberty server who just started playing again (I'm a free player). I can't use all the functions at the consignment house, and I'm specifically looking for Draconic Wings for my character. Is there anyone who actually found recipe and salvage for this costume piece while they were just playing? If yes, then how long did it take or where did you get it? What enemies were you fighting?

I'm sorry but costume recipes drop randomly from all enemies. There is no way to predict how long it will take you to get Draconic wings to drop, nor is there any way to predict which enemy you'll get them from.

The RNG (Random Number Generator) is random.

Also, you'll need an Invention License (160 points) to get salvage/recipe drops at all.

By the way, it's generally better to start a new thread than bump one from 2011, especially if you have a somewhat different question.

Are costume recipes considered part of the Invention system? If so, these guys look like Freebie players (white names), then they can't craft the wings.

Yep I think you're right. I overlooked where he specifically said he was a Free player.

Huh, is that right? Freebies can't make the costume recipes? I've not tested that (I've not tested any freebie stuff yet, actually, hehe).

When considering the OP's question (regardless of how old this thread is), it does make me realize how much of a mess such a commonly desired (and often character defining) costume piece as wings are to acquire!

Seems a shame to me, but that's just my opinion on it. So many cool wing options, but they're somewhat buried in veteran rewards and random recipe drops (very common and easy to get on the market, but still a bit obscure for a new player looking to make a character).
However, the Valkyrie and Organic wings are available right up front (for a small price), as are the Steampunk wings.
Just seems like they should, at least, get some more standard wings in the character creator... because we do have them! The way it is makes it seem like the costume creator is more lacking than it really is.

White name = free player. It's best to assume that white name = access to nothing, until told otherwise.

I've now played to level 40 and I have seen all wing recepies drop at least once. You can also see on the market that the droprates are reasonably high, most of the costume wing recepies sell for 1000 inf or less. The only one I've seen that's worth anything is the Rocket Boots, they go for around 100.000 inf.

But as it's random, your luck might vary.

I think so but I could be wrong.

Just for clarification if you missed it, we aren't answering the OP. We're responding to the person that necro-posted this thread.

If you were aware of that then I apologize for pointing it out.

I wouldn't call it a mess. It's seems to me the devs intend it to be an incentive to upgrade to a Prem or even VIP account. And it's a relatively inexpensive incentive at that.

It's just a one time expenditure of $5. bucks to buy the licenses for the market and IO's with a buck left over that can be spent on a super pack which will net the person several million depending on what items they get.

A single x25 reward merits can be traded in for Large Insp and then sold for a couple million if one checks the prices and also converts 3 less in demand insp for a single more in demand insp. I can get anywhere from 3-6 million from 25 reward merits.

And a single ATO can sell in the tens of millions.

That's all more than enough to buy the wing recipe, salvage, and crafting fees.

Free players are limited in what inspirations they can get from drops - including merit rolls. Large Insps don't become available until T8 is complete; they will be reduced to Medium if T4 or higher or small in less than T4.

Well, I must have encountered a bug then cuz a few weeks ago I was doing just that on an old Prem account.

Edit. Yep. Just confirmed it must have been a bug cuz I logged onto the exact same character and the merit5s are gone, the Inf is still there, but this time the option to get Insp isn't even showing up when she uses the merit vendor.

I went Premium shortly after Freedom launched, and at that time, my purchased insps were being reduced to the largest I could take. Now that you mention it, I recall the patch note for the fix that prevented you from buying things you didn't have the Tier reward for. As a random guess, I'm going to say that you getting the Large insps must have been an attempted fix that happened somewhere between the two. Or maybe a bug, since I think the removal from the vendors was more than "a few weeks ago".

That really sucks.

Not only do free players have to spend more INF on DOs and SOs(because they expire and need combining to make last), but anybody below tier 8 also doesn't get the best inspirations they likely need for their weaker characters more than anybody who does have access to better drops.

This game really seems rather backwards, like a lot of other MMOs.
You start out really weak with the weakest "consumables" and "gear" at the time when you need the latter the most due to having the least amount of options.

It would be better design to start out with the best effectiveness consumables(since they're percentage based and thus scale with level) at least so that they can work their way up to not using them as much when they more options and better gear. They should probably get better gear earlier as well, at least SOs, to compensate for the lack of options.

I just think it is not surprising that people have a hard time even trying or sticking with MMOs, and end up hating low levels, because they are forced to be weak at low levels. There is no way effort can overcome a designed severe weakness in this game or others designed such that the computer has absolute control.

Anyway, the wings all cost real money, in some way, to get. You either need invention access, which costs money, or reward tokens from spending certain amounts of money or to buy some wings directly from the cash shop.

Edit:
That is another thing. Some things scale with level while other things don't.
Endurance cost and accuracy and recharge time don't scale with level, so they always suck. Inspirations do scale with level so they always have the same effectiveness, but you don't get the stronger ones, even from low level bosses, until higher level so they suck in a way as well.

This game is definitely not consistent so that it makes low levels such a pain that it is obvious why people power-level. Being low level in this game is not fun. You have to wait for the fun, way too long a time.
No wonder this is a more niche game than others despite much better customization and more freedom of team composition than other more successful games.

I was on that account last around the beginning of March so I'm guessing it was a bug that luckily let me grab some large Insp's.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

From what the devs told us we don't have control over the color of our forum names.

We need it to be mandatory to more easily distinguish between VIP and Premium/Free. The reason for this is to allow them greater access to parts of the forums.

Interesting. No, it looks like all VIPs were swapped over to gold by default, but there is an option to turn off the gold. So it's the other way around (and most folks seem too lazy to do anything).

(Occasionally freebies will see themselves as gold name, which allows them to post in non-access places, when the account server doesn't sync up correctly to the forum.)

EDIT: Best way to see if VIP or free/preem: click their name and see if you can PM them. Only VIPs can get PMs.

Nice to see they got that working for those that want it off. A while back we couldn't turn it off at all.
