Mr. Bean owns a McLaren F1 ...

I would expect Mr. Bean to crash an F1. The most surprising news when I read that last night was the fact that he owned one. lol. What happened to the Mini?

And yes, I'm well-aware that Mr. Bean is a fictional character played by Rowan Atkinson.

All the other McLaren F1 owners want to thank you Mr. Atkinson... for substantially increasing the value of thier intact cars.

Oh well it happens when your messing around with a very powerful car like that. At least he wasn't completely blasted with a buddy in the car catapulting off the road at 130+

But the other point that Rowan Atkinson is the fastest celeb on Top Gear seems to indicate he does have some driving chops. That's where my disconnect comes from.

It's like finding out Dolph Lundgren has a masters in Chemical Engineering and gave up a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT after two weeks when he got involved with Grace Jones and was introduced to acting.

He owned a McLaren F1 with ~35,000 miles on the clock (that's a lot), he also has an HGV license, amongst other things.

I know most people outside the UK only know him for Mr Bean, but I would highly recommend reading (and watching) up on his other work as well.

Which means that at some point he drove big lorries for a living. Or maybe one of those big motorhomes built on a bus frame.

Atkinson can be a great driver and still make a bad judgement or be unaware of some outside factor that could have suddenly altered the cars performance (a slick spot on the road perhaps?).

Driving a car at 8/10 or 9/10 and certainly 10/10 on a public road is playing against the devil with so many more factors to consider than on a road course or track.

I dont behoove somebody for having fun in a car (christ that would land my face right next to the very definition of "the pot calling the kettle black" ) with the caveat as long as your doing boneheaded things all by your lonesome on a lonely road so utlimately I'm indifferent to his plight no matter how skilled Mr. Atkinson might be as a driver.

So wrecking a McLaren F1 = bad, escaping with minor injuries and not endangering or injuring anybody else = good

No I mean disconnect from the Mr. Bean character, I remember a bit with him getting out of a classic old Mini, and Atkinson being a very skilled driver on a race circuit.

While any fool with lots of money can own a F1, but his performance on Top Gear showed he is probably a lot more competent driving one than most.

I know him for Blackadder and that Doctor Who feature for Comic Relief. He was also good in Johnny English (which I think was an American movie). But yeah, I'm one of those people who are in love with the UK even though I'm American. So, I'm most definitely not the norm.

And reading up probably wouldn't do those shows justice. You'd have to watch them too.

I wonder if that 3 wheeled blue car made him crash.

What does an HGV license entail? Might it cover a single car carrier, like a tow truck? If so, he might have used such to move the McLaren or other show-off car around, at such time as he didn't want to run the odometer up higher (than he already had)

Having never had the opportunity to visit the UK, I find the lane markings and lane changing system in that video to be confusing and disturbing. Kind of like driving in the South, only without the yellow line.

It's been years since he crashed it the first time, he wrecked it back when it was new too.

I bet that was the F1 that had front end damage and was hella expensive to fix (as in expensive even for a supercar to fix)
