We've already been told that Korra begins the series knowing Earth, Water, and Fire bending. She can't learn Air bending because Aang was the last; that's supposed to be a plot point.

She looks very serious in this trailer. I'm guessing that the secret to Air bending will be to have levity in one's soul, and Korra's character arc will be her learning to lighten up.

Yes, that would be a problem. However I would think Aang would try to teach others the skill or at least try to write down what he knew and how he was taught.

Apparently Korra has found an airbender to teach her.

Korra' airbending teacher is Tenzin, who is the son of Aang and Katara, and thus he is the last airbender (at least until Korra learns how).

Water Tribe, silly. It's Water Tribes, Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Air Nomads. Korra, specifically, is Southern Water Tribe.

Yes, Aang would have lived much longer, but his lifespan was shortened because he spent a century in the iceberg in the Avatar State. So he died sooner than he normally would have.

Also it's been shown that Avatar's have long life spans if they aren't cut short. A hundred years may have passed.
70-75 years have passed, according to the creators.

With people like Sokka and The Mechanist who can apply the various bending styles as sources of power for devices, society evolving into a "bendpunk" era in that time frame is very possible.
Yes, there are "steampunk" elements in the design of Republic City, which is where the majority of the new series will take place. It's a metropolis, founded by Aang and Zuko, where benders of all nations live and work together. The city's police are metalbenders, lead by Toph's daughter.

Quote:
Now the story can be about factions using this new "technology" to cause mayhem and possibly war. After 100 years of peace, people may hesitate to believe this new, not fully trained young Avatar warning much like Harry Potter in OotP.

Just guessing.
It will be about an "anti-bending movement" called the Equalizers, who use Ty Lee's chi-blocking martial arts, that rises in Republic City, leading to the crisis that Avatar Korra must deal with.

But his kids are training in airbending.

After some reading, I was a bit wrong. Tenzin is the youngest of Aang and Katara's three children and the only airbender among them. However, Tenzin has three children himself, all airbenders. Two daughters, Jinora and Ikki, and a son, Meelo.

So, the airbenders are making a bit of a comeback.

Ah, well, there we go. Confirmation.

Is it me, or do the daughters look like Mai and Ty Lee?

Also, J.K. Simmons is voicing Tenzin.

Oh hell no. Do not want!!!

Now I'll say why and this is purely based on the trailer.

In the original series there was occasional use of shaky cam. Mostly during earth bending fights or large explosions. In other words where it makes sense. A large explosion or earthquake would shake a camera. But there was no sign of the obsession that Hollywood seems to have with hiring epileptic cameramen.

Now go watch the trailer again. A character jumps and the scene jitters. A character blasts and the scene convulses.

I didn't really notice it in the small window but the moment I played it full screen I wanted to yell at the imaginary cameraman to stand still. And since I intend to watch the series on my television rather than an ipod I'm not willing to deal with that. No matter how good the rest of the series may be that would be a deal breaker for me.

Aang's son (his youngest of three), as well as his grandchildren, are Airbenders. Additionally, Toph's daughter is the chief of police in Republic City, and a rather formidable Metalbender.

It wasn't particularly shaky for me. When they showed Earth bending there was some shaking of course and the shockwave from Air Bending but the other two didn't shake at all. I think the rest of the "stuttering" of the opening was just poor encoding or capture.

Well. To be fair, he pretty much HAD to compress the first season into a single film. This hurt the film immensely, but didn't leave all sorts of dangling plots that would have hurt just as much.

Not saying I "liked" the movie. I just understand the reasons he did what he did.

Actually, I thought the condensing of the first season's overall plot arc into movie length was one of the few things done fairly well. Where it really fails is in points where characters tell or explain things for the audience, rather than showing us and letting it unfold naturally. Also, poor usage of the action and CGI for a goodly portion of the film (the Blue Spirit fight sequence being one of the exceptions, for example).

Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Looking forward to seeing what lies in store with this new series!

:43 Korra comes through the fire, camera is shaking

:47 Someone is knocked through a window, camera is shaking

:50 Fire blasts are exchanged, camera shakes

:53 Someone running on a roof, camera shakes

:57 Cars crash, camera shakes (this one I wouldn't mind)

1:03 Fight taking place from doggie-bear-thingy back, camera shakes

And by camera shake I'm not referring to the sideways jolts, that can come from bad transcoding. I'm talking about the up and down movement.

I completely understand that this might not be noticeable to anybody else and that I may just be overly sensitive to it. But it is the sort of thing that can completely turn me off of watching a show if I do notice it.

I do like the look and feel of the non shakeycam parts though so hopefully the trailer was just deliberately put together that way to feel all actiony.

Thought you were talking about the opening credits that were linked by the OP.

I was. Those things are all from the original link. Once they get away from the tranquil stuff and start in on the action scenes.

Unless the link changed in between the time you saw it and when I did.

Edit: Just checked, it's still the one I'm referring to.

Sorry, I meant the opening credits that Wolf_Spyder linked when he necroed this thread.

As for the random clips sneak that the actual OP linked to, well it might be a case of art imitating art. Since this editing style is now popular in movies (quick cuts, tight shots, shaky cam), it gets reproduced for an animated feature.

Or it could simply be a case of totally random action scenes edited together. We'll see when the series starts.

Found this in one of the comments for a deleted scene from shyamalamadingdong's film:

Water, Earth, Fire, Air.
Long ago, the three books lived in harmony,
Then everything changed when M. Night Shyalaman attacked.
Only Michael Dante Dimartino, Master of all 3 books could stop him.
But when the world needed him most, he vanished.
Four Years have passed, and the Internet has revealed the new Avatar, a Waterbender named Korra.
Although her bending skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's able to save anyone. But I believe Korra can save this series.
