Let Us Keep Galaxy City Teleport Beacons Past Issue 21
Galaxy City, as I understand it, won't be a zone in the game anymore. Therefore you can't teleport or access it. It will be gone.
The only place I imagine you could "finagle" a teleport to Galaxy City would be Ouroboros.

The Destruction of Galaxy City is a permanent zone change, however you will be able to access an "Echo of Galaxy City" through Ouroboros, where you will be able to seek badges and congregate. |
As I understand it, this is wrong according to Zwillinger: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=511

Which corresponds to the part where I said:

There is also no reason to confine this to already existing bases or SGs. Since we can get to it through Ouro, new SGs can get the beacon and then use their base to access it in the future.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.

How about they just call off the whole epically bad idea of destroying this zone completely? No? Didn't think so.
It's an epically brilliant idea - streamlining the starting low-level area to one zone ala Rogue Isles/Praetoria. Makes a lot more sense than giving new players (and when I say new I don't mean a new toon a veteran player is rolling) a confusing choice of where to start.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...

However, as I mentioned in a thread in City Life, when Paragon Dance Party was removed, the zone wasn't actually deleted from the databases. People who logged out of Paragon Dance Party before its removal and subsequently logged into those characters discovered that they were still zoning into the rave map. It was just inaccessible from outside.
Presumably, the same thing will happen when Galaxy City goes away. Either the characters logged out there will login to find themselves "in the past" or they'll login to find themselves in their own instance of Galaxy City.
I just want the current beacon to function like it always has, regardless of whether it goes to Galaxy City or Galaxy City Echo.
I had no idea that Galaxy City was going to be destroyed. . . I missed something along the line here!
If we loose the Galaxy beacon then hopefully be able to replace it with one from the new zone(s). . .
Or I guess I could just drop one of the telepads from my base, placing all the available hero side beacons leaves the last telepad holding the odd single beacon.
They could add beacons for the shadow shard zones...

I'd personally rather have a segment of GC for the tutorial. And the entire ruined zone right where it is now. So, y'know, best of both worlds?
Given how little solid details we have atm ("The zone change is permanent" doesn't equate to "We got rid of the whole zone and replaced it with nothing"), I say there's still a possibility.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Galaxy City is a dead zone, it's about time they do something with it.
Why would they get rid of a zone in favor of it making it only be a tutorial area? I thought it was just going to be a low level co-op zone with a tutorial in it. Not that it would completely disappear. Seems kinda silly to completely get rid of it when they are revamping it. Why revamp it only to use it for tutorial when you could get so many other uses out of it?
What happens to all those explore badges and the explore accolade? The history plagues etc. Id figure they would just destroy every part of the zone for the most part but leave some very much destroyed structures intact for those badge locations.

I found nothing confusing about choosing between Atlas and Galaxy when I created my first character (CoV was a few months away from release at this point). "Oh, I can choose one of these two cities as my starting place. Cool." Not really a big mental hurdle.

1) what the devs mean by revamp and what they players mean are 2 different things most of the time. In development terms more often than not they're better off starting from scratch and making a zone very similar instead of trying to salvage the old zone and edit it.
2) They feel like they can "get rid of a zone" because as much as some people love GC it is ultimately redundant. It's a victim of the old design premises they used where more zones were better, and have since learned that's not true.
3) It gives them a way to advance the story of the game in a meaningful way. No one who plays this game a long time enjoys seeing things look pretty much the same as it did years ago. If they can make big changes and at the same time tell a story that's meaningful, they're going to try it.
4) as people said, it's not going to completely disappear. It's going to be redesigned to fulfill a higher purpose. We need new updated tutorials. We need the story of the game to move in big ways. This should (I hope) accomplish that.

I am sure they got plans to remake this zone in the future and set it with a different lvl range and Junk, who no's maybe it be a new Hazard Zone.

Would of been a cool deal though. Firstward a new zone to expand praetoria, Galaxycity tutorial / warzone - a new tutorial (Galaxy city south) and incarnate hazard zone. (Galaxy city north)

Oh, wait.
I know plenty of people who still use GC. It's one of the main RP hubs on Union. So, subjective and unfactual opinion is just that.

In the interests of preserving access to existing content for players that desire such access, I'd like to see the current Galaxy City teleport beacons continue to function. That is, using one would send a Hero to the current Galaxy City zone. Presumably the new tutorial zone will be accessible through Orobouros just as Outbreak currently is accessible in that fashion.
Consider it a "veteran's perk". A legacy thing that only pre-I21 bases have. The creation of the beacons can be halted. Just don't deactivate or remove the existing ones.
For that matter, if someone wants to enter an allied SG's base and use their beacon to get to Old Galaxy City and collect all of the badges there to earn a beacon, go ahead and let them. It would be a sort of an easter egg, IMO.
