SD being overused, having to have a shield on your arm, not being able to do Spines, Claws, DB, and Katana with it, changing your animations, a click mez protection that you have to refresh every few seconds to keep capped DDR (yes exaggeration, but again, I'm talking about how I feel about it , having to use a mouse to use SC (I game on a laptop often enough for it to be annoying), and did I mention over popular, all make me dislike SD.

People can show facts, tell me I'm wrong, or any other thing. I realize this is really liberal, getting in touch with feelings, instead of cold, hard facts, but the reason I PLAY a game is for the feelings it instils within me. I just dislike SD (also WP... but that is another thread so please don't assume that all other sets are inferior just because you believe, feel, or even prove it to be. There are right and wrong ones, but even people confronted with their wrong position will still cling to it.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

The changes sound great, really.

Now they just need to look at Energy Melee again to go with it.

My EM toons still play great despite EM changes, that being said however I would certainly NOT object to Energy Transfer being reverted to its original animation, OR its original animation being inserted as a choice for the power when you customize the powers.

I don't have a problem with the animation. It's the animation TIME that made me quit using EM/. Original ET was far quicker and that is what I enjoyed about the set. It was like a sucker punch hopped up on drugs with a loud BOOM. Also fun in PvP because it was extremely hard to react (heal) when getting hit with 75% Fury+BU>TF>ET. Pretty much everyone just died. Now you have all the time in the world to pop a heal of some sort in between those attacks.

STRONG AND PRETTY FOREVER!!
Sorry she may be pretty but not STRONG with pathetic little dark punches instead of a WAR MACE. That said Dm/EA compliments each other very well even before the new buffs, I have a Stalker with this combo.

Only thing missing on EA is a taunt aura...

all the good stuff that comes with are all welcome of course....
A non-pathetic heal was missing too imo. I was planning on getting aid self for my 16 wm/ae Brute Pretty Strong.

But now he'll have both the taunt aura and a decent heal (if I make good use of it on a partly IO'ed 38 sm/elec brute with no defenses, despite being skeptical of it because of its long recharge time, I guess Energize will be great on a defensive toon)

You're lucky. I didnt care for the new animation time as well as hated feeling the "whooosh they're already dead" I kept running into

^^

I see how awesome Shield is by the numbers, but outside of the Vanguard Shield and one concept I don't want to repeat over and over again...well...really...it never felt like a set that should be used by over half the heroes running around the city

I think this sounds like a great change that should have happened years ago.

I'm not convinced that it'll put EA into the forefront of anything for min maxers, but it does bring it into the realm of "very solid set" especially where leveling or SO/frankenslotted builds are concerned. The combination of a self recharge buff with hasten and a def buff in EA (even a weak one) will probably make for some great survival where psi/def debuffs are not an issue.

What will be interesting to see is how this set ends up working with the coming (but distant) titan weapons set. Notwithstanding the usual caveat about no-one knowing how it'll end up, it's a fair bet that shields will be out as a secondary if you're using an 8" steel round bar, a vespa or half a frozen cow as a club.

I figure if momentum works as is currently presumed, a set with some significant +recharge and extra endurance might be a good match.

EA would be one good candidate there, though sr with body mastery may be as good or better. We'll just have to wait and see.

I feel like if the momentum mechanic with the upcoming titan weapons works out well, it will get applied to EM. Reducing the animation times of TF and ET by constantly attacking would revive the set, in my eyes.

I re-rolled my level 44 SS/EA as an SS/SR. I 50'd and IO'd the SS/SR and was generally happy with the move, but I'm looking at this at thinking the SS/EA would be pretty nice with these changes.

Could be interresting. It would revive a set that needs reviving and give a mechanic to a non weapon set for those who might like the mechanic but not want a weapon.

Actually what I'd REALLY like to see would be a scaling momentum buff from entropy shield.

Forget recharge, let my knockout blow speed up when I'm surrounded.

Of course the timing won't work for that... the momentum mechanic comes later... with the new set, but...

Ah well.

You're really making two different points here.

Your first paragraph I fully agree with, that's why I play SR rather than Shield on my "serious" alts. It's an issue of feel.

Then, after admitting this isn't about the factual performance, you argue other powersets aren't inferior. Does not compute. I get that there's a negative emotional response to the word "inferior", but at some point you've got to step out of the rainbow colored magical land where all kids get an A+ for trying and realise that numerically speaking, some things can be better than other things, and that people stating "X is better than Y" based on that aren't making a personal attack on you or the stuff you like. Otherwise you can just throw balance out of the window completely and widen the gap between the best powersets and the worst powersets.

I think the point here is that with these buffs (and even before them some would argue) one can choose to play EA in order to be "different" or because it suits their personal tastes and not be gimping themselves or get rejected from Mo runs. The gap is now smaller enough between EA and all the other defense sets that while it may still be statistically inferior, it's not inferior enough to make much of a difference in 95-98% of gameplay.

Furthermore my Claws/EA is foaming at the mouth for some much needed +recharge to fit into my already iTrial sturdy build. Well done to the devs for the changes

My EA brute can currently use ED every 25 seconds (actually every 21, but 25 is a more pleasing number). With just 3 targets in range it heals for 18.5%. With 5 targets it heals for 30.9%.

How would that compare to a 48% heal and +190% regen from Energize on a 40 second cycle?

If I lose Stimulant and Aid Self to pick up Energize, I might grab Hand Clap, because all SS incarnates need to spam that (Imperious and Statesman taught me that).

You're getting a taunt aura with a recharge bonus so you will be able to use Energize more often than that.. I'd love to see how much +rech we will get per mob.

I find it doubtful. I have decent, but not spectacular, global recharge, +56.25% before Hasten and once I get Energize I am sure that will improve by 5% thanks to DW slotting. With my FF +recharge in Foot Stomp I figure I can normally have Energize floating just above a 40 seconds cycle time. I am guessing the +recharge for the set will cap out at 30% or lower (likely hitting +20% around 5 targets). Even if the recharge shoots to +50% from the aura, I will only likely get to ~36 seconds at best.

And of course the +recharge would help me shave a second or two off the ED recharge as well, which can have additional mitigation properties beyond the heal. I think the EA changes overall will be very good. However, I am very happy with my /EA brute now and this change will be removing a heal I currently rely on regularly and replacing it with a heal that has twice the base recharge and a lower potential maximum heal (although counting in the +regen, Energize likely beats out the total HP gain). I am not sure which will be better for me, although I accept I may suffer a degradation in performance to lift the set overall (blaster defiance changes already did that to me once).

I do not normally suffer from being whittled away. I am normally fine and then take a big hit where a heal is nice. When I get hit twice with that big health drop quickly, I know ED will be back very soon (or I can use Aid Self with its 10 second cycle time). Energize could be 30 seconds away. The kicker is that in order to take Energize, I'll likely have to lose Aid Self. So I am looking at losing the quick recharge heal in ED and the very quick recharge heal in Aid Self. I am not sure what the other changes to EA are, but those resistance increases in the passives better be more than just token buffs.

The /EA buffs are WINNING.

That is all.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing as my Claws/EA has the exact same amount of recharge as your build Strato. My guess would be that the average +recharge over time from the aura would be 15-20% over time. So let's assume 20% for arguments sake and that you have the +45% spiritual alpha. You'd go from +61.25% to +81.25% and then even still you have a 38 second downtime, closer to 40 seconds if you account for the activation time. Now that being said, after the initial 50% heal from energize to save your *** the +regen should buy you enough time to kill whatever it is you're trying to kill (save extreme situations). I'm pretty sure that the overall HP restored over 70 seconds (2 full durations of Energize @ that recharge rate) is greater with Energize than with Aid Self + ED (still working on the exact maths for my build, everyone will be different depending on your hit points). Plus Energize is a definite oh **** button where as Aid Self is not as reliable due to the interrupt.

Either way it looks like I'm going to have to free up more slots somehow for hasten...
