Rularuu Armor

Ok, let me preface this by saying I don't want to argue about the whole annoying unlocking costume pieces via badges. Personally, I think it sucks. But for the sake of this thread, let's just work with what we have, shall we?

Anyhow, hunting down rularuu for the badge (or doing the task force, I guess) is something many heroes with a weapon grudgingly looks forward to when they get to a level high enough. Unlocking that awesome rularuu shield/weapon is a pain in the butt, but finally getting access to it is Fun Times™.

However, there is no incentive for heroes without a weapon (except for badge hunters, of course) to hunt down all those darn Overseer's, as they get nothing but the badge. So, why not add a Rularuu armor set that even non weapon heroes can unlock and use? Picture a leathery armor with a giant, moving eyeball in it. Awesome

Of course, I'd prefer to NOT have to unlock this costume item, but again, I'm working with the system we currently have. What do you guys think?

I like it, but maybe as a reward for completing the Cathedral of Pain trial once? This would be along the same lines as the Roman armor being behind the Imperious Task Force. It would be something that would require some organization, and the premise for it certainly makes it feel "epic," thus the reward of Rularuu armor would feel well-deserved once obtained.

it would also give poeple a reason to do the CoP trial outside of a few badges lol

I'm all for new costumes pieces - and havign a Rularuu Armour would be brilliant in my opinion! I am one of the strange people that don't actually mind having to unlock stuff in game (although I don't complain if I dont either!) and, although I haven't done a CoP trial, I think adding it as an additional option to unlocking the parts would be better than an 'instead of'.

Also I only have the one badging toon so I don't generally do the hunt for the Overseers, I have actually found it easier (as I generally go over to unlock Patron Pools anyway) to switch sides and run the short villain's arc from Technician Naylor (Last Stand on Mole Point Bravo) which also unlocks them.

I'm actually okay with the unlocking.

As long as we don't do more "only at 50" pieces.

Also anything new that is unlocked by doing a TF, I would hope would be account wide.

Not that I wouldn't run the TF often anyways, but I would like my costumes not level locked.

Hunt Badge ones I am fine with, because then I can get level 50 friends to help me get the badge on my level 1 then make the changes quickly.

Locked behind a lvl 35+ TF means waiting till level 35 :/ Locked behind level 50 gear, means waiting 49 levels!

It's an awesome thought to reward the lvl 50's (and I have plenty of them so it's not like I can't get to 50), but when you see a costume piece that's perfect for your charfacter, can you can't get it pretty quick with a bit of help from friends...it's sad.

Before we discuss if and how the armor should be unlockable, don´t you think we first should define it to give the Art Team something to work with?

So, for the head I was thinking maybe a rather torn cowl and one of those nifty moving eyeballs instead of a face.
Or better make that two parts and the eye(surrounded by some metal) a head1 piece. How about making it look like as if the metal was grafted right onto the flesh?

Any other ideas?

Good point. I know I wouldn't want an eye on every piece of the set.

For the chest and legs options, I picture some leather and metal hybrid, with metal plating and leather straps or pieces filling in the gaps in the armor between the plates.

For the boots, shoulders, and gloves, I definitely want to use the Rularuu weapons as inspiration. I think they should be dark, thickly-cast metal, with silvered-out sharp edges. For the boots size, think something in between Praetorian Police and Alpha. For the gloves, something akin to the appearance of the "Organic Armor Thorny" option, but like the Organic armor, with a less large alternative. Finally, I see the shoulders being a hybrid between the "Gladiator" pads (I think that's what they are called, the asymmetrical ones) and the "Organic" look. Also, I think all three of these pieces should be possibilities for that signature eye ball, with the bigger options incorporating it, and the smaller options without it.

Chest detail could be an additional armored chest piece, most likely with an eyeball in the dead center.

The head is tough. I wish to avoid any eyeballs here, simply because I've seen the crazy eyeball on a head in the "Cyclops" on the ITF and it's funky looking. I think the head option should be a half helmet, a cross between the Warrior and the Valkyrie, that extends a little further down the neck in the back. Optional detail 1 and 2 for this could be small axe-blade-shaped protrusions out the sides, along with some kind of guard for the lower jaw and chin. Options sans-helmet (i.e. on the "Standard" head) would be a similar chin guard, and then a brow guard for above the eyes.

I'd like to see some chest pieces, be they actual armor or just straps, that're in-laid with different colored crystals or longer skirts with matchin' belts, much like the pieces that Ruladak and Faathim wear.

When I think of Rularuu Armour I kind of thought of this armour from Dragon Age Origins:

However it would have less dragons, more glowy lines and runes like on the weapons:

I guess they could have a half helmet option as well as well as the full encased helmet.

I also think that each piece could come with and a without eye option so people could choose the number of creepy eyes they want (from fully covered, so possibly just one on the chest piece or the helmeet).

I also like the idea of a hooded option for the helmet and possibly some of the belt options like Coblat says. We could also get some of the line paterns available as well.

Good call. I completely forgot to suggest this myself.

Edit: Also a color-tintable version o' the crawlin' power over Rularuu's skin available to players as an aura.

For headgear how about a helm with an eye in the middle or on top mounted in a raised section (kinda like the vent options on current hemlets).
Also a closed-faced helm with the eye taking up the the entire front.
Or the eye on the back of the helm?
On my SD/BA tank who has both the Rularuu Shield and Axe I say that he is almost unflankable as he can see forward (his eyes), left (shield-eye) and right (axe-eye) at the same time. THATS why his defences are so high.

Also a circlet headband with a small eye in the middle for those who also want to show off their hair-styles

For all item pieces an eye/no-eye option should be made (ie: Gloves, Gloves w/eye).

For non-wearable how about an Eyeball Head "Montrous" option?

Wow, this took off a bit more than I was hoping for. Well, excellent! As to thoughts on it's design, I was thinking along the lines of Winterminals suggestions. And true, I don't think every piece should have eyes, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to have multiple versions of some pieces, so that the player could decide where they wanted their eye to be on the armor set.

Also, I like the idea of unlocking it via the CoP trial--would give an actual reason to run it for non-badgers, since the merit and temp power award is paltry. I hope someone from the art team stumbles on this thread, I've been at a loss to find the perfect costume for my new shield.

Needs the cracked glowing chest piece like Rularuu himself. Also, shoulder pads with those moving eyes on them.

I'm fine with it being unlocked, I guess, but please, please don't attach it to the CoP.

At least with the iTrials there's the excuse that they're supposed to be easy to join/do. From how I understand the way the CoP works...it's much, much more obnoxious to get going. Not to mention the cost of actually unlocking/buying the base components necessary.

Not sure about the cracked chest/arms/head, but I'd love something akin to the robe that all of the aspects and the big guy himself wear.

I'm all for having multiple ways to unlock this hypothetical armor (that I really, really hope sees the light of day), though I'd like even more if I didn't have to unlock it at all.

But if it must be unlocked, I don't think the trials should be the way to. At least, not the current trials we have. They have nothing to do with Rularuu, and shouldn't be gated behind it.

Oh, believe me, I hate unlocking costume parts too.

My point about the iTrials is that at least they're approachable, that's the one flimsy 2x4 propping up the unlocks gated behind those. The CoP on the flipside, while related to Rularuu, is a much bigger pain to even attempt to run.

Oh, no doubt there. It's a pretty big (not to mention rare) pain in the butt to form up. I hesitate to say the Shadow Shard TF would be better, because frankly, those are the red-headed step child task forces (no offense to any red heads out there! ), and they really need to look into cutting out all the excess chaff from the missions.

Anyway, I would be fine with the same situation that we have now. By which I mean, whatever unlocks the Rularuu weapons would unlock the armor as well.

I was lucky enough to get on a CoP not that long ago... and if you have access to an SG with the proper equipment, it actually isn't that bad... Same number of teams required as a full BAF.

However, I think it is that first hurdle (the base stuff) that stands in the way of a lot of folks. Our SG could theoretically run them... we just don't. All we need at any one time to do it, is 3 SG members on at the same time to lead each team inthe League... from there, one can run several successful attempts in under an hour. It is only the invitation and staging time that takes a while.

So, you'd basically want the Rularuu armor to make a player look like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?

You know, on second thought, maybe for Rularuu, the anti-Spiral's Grand Zamboa would make for a better armor:

though the "two sets of arms" part could get tricky, but hey, it wouldn't be an exact replica, and even if it was, the Anti-Spiral only really used them once in the fight for his Judgement po- I mean Big Bang Infinity Storm.
