Doctor Who 7/6 (or 6/7)

I thought it was a fun episode, not the greatest but not really the worse either.

There were some definite plot holes and the disapearing pirate was a big whoops moment.

Apart from that seeing Amy Pond sword fight made me laugh along with some good jokes so Im happy

A couple of my fav quotes:
Avery: She's been hunting us ever since we were be calmed, picking off the injured.
Crewman: Like a shark. A shark can smell blood.
The Doctor: Okay, just like a shark. In a dress, and singing, and green. A green, singing shark in an evening gown.

Captain Avery: To the rigging, you dogs! Let go the sails! Avanti! Put the [bunting in the sack] of the clews!
Amy: I swear he's making half this stuff up!
Rory: Well we're gonna need some kind of phrase book!

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

So she put injured people or diseased people into the beds and kept them on some sort of life support that would keep them going even if they were on the brink of death at the time she grabbed them.

But she left the captain of her ship to die of a cold while he was sitting in his chair?

Even if he did know CPR, Rory specifically wanted Amy to do it. That's the kind of request the Doctor would respect, I think.

The last time we had "bad editing" was when the Doctor's jacket reappeared when he reassured Amy when she had her eyes closed to protect herself from the angels, and it turned out to be intentional.

On the other hand, this episode is a one-off, more separate from the main story, and I have my doubts that Moffat would try to pull the same "hur we didn't fail editing, we did it on purpose!" again. Especially when it's an extra, rather than the title character.

Actually, that part of the story makes sense to me. Think back to the "Empty Child", Season 1, 9th Doctor. The Nano Genes attempted to heal the boy, but were not familiar with human DNA and botched the job.

The ships captain was obviously not humanoid. The ships automated medical doctor was unfamiliar with the disease that infected the crew and did not recognize it in time. Same manner in which it was 'over reacting' minor injuries as it was trying to adapt to human physiology.

Not enough info to make any conclusions, but she could have been knocked offline before the aliens got sick and only recently went online again. The bodies seems to have been around for quite a while due to them being only bones, but the Siren attacks appeared to happen only recently within about one week to one month. No crew member would stay on a cursed ship when there are other options like finding another ship at port. I would say that the alien ship landed on the pirate ship a good while ago like about a year ago or longer and was contaminated with human bacteria before the Siren came online.

The problem is any episode after a River one is a let down. Without the patter between River and the Doctor any dialog seems bland.

And dang no wonder she looked so familiar, I watched Dr. Parnassus only a few months ago.

I was just coming to this thread to mention that episode.

So, besides all the faults of this episode, it's a rehash of a previous one: Scary event is really not-so-smart alien healing AI tech.

And another continuity gaffe: When The Doctor gets aboard the alien ship, they look back through the mirror-portal at the ship... where it's not a violent storm anymore... and through a mirror-portal which has no analogue on the sailing ship side.

Well, it is the Neil Gaiman episode... and Karen's in another denim skirt so I've got no complaints at all.

Plus scary event could never hope to be as scary as "Are you my mummy?" and gas-mask wearing pseudo-zombies (no slight towards your kin intended ZM).

I pretty much thought it was a run-of-the-mill Dr Who episode, which after last weeks one was exactly what I expected to be honest

Next weeks one looks good though.

I thought it was a fairly mediocre episode. It was alright - a very Neil Gaiman Episode - but I think it broke the premise and momentum of the show set up by the first two episodes this season.

It really did seem out of place.

Neil Gaiman's is the -next- one, not the Curse of the Black Spot.

I like the fact that that basically shows that Jet Boy doesn't know what he's talking about.

As soon as I saw the trailer for next weeks one I thought to myself "Oooh, that looks like the Neil Gaiman one".

Smatterings of Neverwhere in the costume designs and sets, which can only be a good thing.

it wasn't a BAD episode, I think it was meant to be a bit light hearted, every season in the new series has had one like this, but with that said, next week's episode looks pretty awesome. Is it an episode I would deliberately re-watch, maybe not, but any Who is good Who. <sigh> why couldn't a BBC season = 24 weeks instead of 12 or 13. Although to be fair its the same length as a HBO series

We walk of his back, breath his air, eat his food, AND DO MY WILL.

Fiddle-faddle. I admit walking in after the intro, but it seemed very Gaiman to me. In any case, my complaint still stands about the whole "didn't seem to fit" thing.

So there 8P

It's also got Suranne Jones in it, who I've a bit of a thing for.

And the scary voice is apparently professional acting mimic Micheal Sheen

That in itself was enough to send shudders down my spine. I wonder who this missing Time Lord could be...?

So maybe I missed the discussion somewhere, but what's with the lady who keeps popping up in the little portal and talking to Amy right before disappearing again?

She's appearing later in some up coming episodes ("duh!", I know). People scanning over imdb have already gotten her name too. I think that's about all we know though.
