Assistance Requested for Lambda

Dear Nice People at City of Heroes and Villains:

I know that this may sound a bit silly and crazy, but I have been trying to fullfill the rite of passage for being an incarnate superhero, however, I am still having a hard time with the Lambda Challenge.

Every time I want to play this challenge with other people and see it through, I get lost and confused, due to the fact that my heroic character in game has amnesia and is trying to get her memories back and so far, she has done the BAF challenge, but what will bring her memories back for real is that she gets to succeed in the Lambda Challenge, not only will her memories come back, she will become an incarnate.

The worst thing is that every time I want to try and succeed, I have trouble not only keeping up, but I also get lost and a bit confused, because of all these confusing maze like rooms. The worst thing is that every time I want to see it through until I would stop that bad man, Maruader from hurting them and win the challenge,I ended up either getting killed or get kicked off the team and the league! And to add insult to injury, the robots and the people in this facility is too high for me to handle, level wise.

That is why I am here this evening, hoping that someone who would take me very seriously about my situation, because I want a happy ending, so I can literally and proverbally finally move forward and become a real Incarnate Superhero, so that I would really make a real difference and be a real superhero!

In closing, I want to say thank you for reading this and I look forward to your polite responses in this matter.

Sincerely Yours In The Fight For Justice,
DANGER WOMAN

1. Blue text is hard to read. Please remove your formatting and use the forum default. Thanks.

2. I'm not sure what you are saying. I hope you are not messing up because you are role-playing your character "has amnesia."

3. I found the rooms in the Lambda TF also hard to navigate. I spent most of my time dead because the team split up to search for boxes and I have basically no defense and no stealth solo. Being dead on a "fast" TF is normal for a squishy, don't worry about it, just keep playing.

4. Suck it up, try again, don't give up. The only way to learn is to run the mish until you do get it. Ask other players too while waiting to start, see if they have advice for you. Try to leave the role-play terminology out of it, I find it confusing. Just say "I get lost" ask for assistance.

Good luck.

In terms of the warehouse maze, you need to keep your mini-map open so you can see the layout as it is revealed. The meleers will rush in, probably split up, and do their own thing. If you're a squishie, then band together with the other squishes to slowly fight your way in. Get some drops for the team while the others are getting the objectives. Eventually one of the meleers will over aggro and die or a crate is just too heavily defended. Set that as your interim goal for squishie squad to work towards.

And as Gameboy says, the only way for you to learn the TF is to play it and observe. The warehouse maze seems to be a fixed layout from the few times I've played it, so eventually, you'll get familiar with it like all the other maps in this game.

Still, I am puzzled as to why the League would take notice of you in particular out of the crowd that is the League and kick you. Are you making yourself stand out by complaining? If so, then I'm going to politely suggest that you keep quiet and go with the flow until you learn the Trial.

As to the enemies being "too high", that's the entire point of the high level "End Game". All the enemies are 54, but that's no different than the Rikti Mothership Raid, the Statesman TF, and the Lord Recluse SF. If the enemies are too easy, then what's the point of it being an End Game? What's the point of achieving additional powers?

I assume that you do have the Alpha Slot, right? Perhaps you should work on that first to get the +1 level shift, then you'd only be facing +3s.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Gentlemen and Ladies:

I know that my heroic character has been role playing that she has amnesia, but it is also because of some freak accident that happened to her, before issue 20 was released.

She does know her name and that she wears currently, an Avenging Angel Look, but whenever she tries to remember her past, she breaks down and cries, because it is too painful to remember.

The People In Ouroboros, especially the kind hearted Menders, told her that the only way she would get her memories back is to do the Incarnate Trials and succeed at them.

So far, I have done the BAF, but what is standing between me and getting these memories back, without getting scared, is the Lambda Trial.

I have been doing that trial nearly every evening, but I still feel that I am NOT worthy of proving myself and the only way I can succeed, without getting lost and confused and scared, is to try and try again, without breaking down in tears and NOT be kicked off the team and the league.

All I want is that opportunity to be allowed to do this challenge without getting lost, confused and scared and complete this mission and defeat Marauder.

If you really think that I deserve this chance to prove myself to the whole world, look for me on the Virtue Server most evenings.

In closing, I want to say thank you again for your comments and I look forward to your polite responses.

Sincerely Yours In The Fight For Justice,

Ok, assuming I'm reading you right you are having a hard time on the pickup portion of the tirals. Here's a map you might find helpful (stolen from Tsumiju) showing the layout of the two areas and the position of the items:

I would suggest having your map window open (positioned soemwhere it won't obstruct your view), then print out the picture and compare it to the ingame map as you go.

No offense, but is it possible you're getting kicked from leagues because your RPing is disrupting gameplay?

You should expect to die, at least once. More if you're a squishy. I would be shocked if you're getting kicked just for dying, if that's the case then you need to find a group of not-insane people to play with.

Adeon, wow, hugs for the pic!

You had just made my life so much easier, hugs...

To the OP, it amazes me you have been kicked out of the league during a LAMBDA, that is very unusual. The only time I have seen it down, several times with the same player, is because they go AFK during the trial and place themselves on follow to another player. But I never seen a player who is trying from ever being kicked out.

Is it really necessary to RP on the Forums? I can kinda understand it in the game, but on the forums...REALLY?

Are you sure you were actually getting kicked and not dropping out due to the bug with the LFG thingie? I've no idea if they fixed it or not but a lot of people were getting a semi-random "You have left your team" message and a boot from the league.

Hi DangerWoman,
I imagine that losing one's memories would be a terrible thing. This having been said, would it be possible to choose a member of your team, keep them always selected, stay as close to them as possible (without putting yourself in undue danger) and just try to contribute in whatever way you can? Think of it as a temporary "Living Assistance Dog".

Good luck in your endeavors.

The trick I use on Internet Explorer is to Edit Select All.

Thank you for your suggestion, Aquila.

I just hope that if I can overcome getting lost, with your information, I know that my memories will come back and become a fully powerful incarnate superhero with memories restored!

Kudos, OP, on dropping the colour. That was one step out of three. Next is dropping the bold. Because if there's one thing more annoying to read than comic sans, it's BOLDED comic sans (Bold, like italics and underline, is useful for headings, or emphasis on a few key words or phrases. Not the entire text). The final step is to stop using comic sans entirely - However with the successful application of the first two steps I might be willing to overlook the third.

As for The Lambda issues - simple instructions:

  • Phase 1 - Clear all the mobs on the street. It isn't strictly necessary to clear more than the progress bar as far as I'm aware, but they are a source of threads and incarnate xp.
  • Phase 2 - Clear the courtyard of mobs, hop up on top of the back of the facility, clear those two groups, and then destroy the wall's turrets.
  • Phase 3 - defeat the warwalker guard (I wish there were more of them) and wait for instructions on which team goes down which set of elevators.
  • Phase 4 - This part is tricky for the less durable characters, and those without some form of stealth. The low initial time means you don't have the time to take out all the enemies, only to focus on the crates/containers, and then move on to the next one leaving all mobs that weren't killed by the AoEs to chase after you. If you aren't durable enough to go off on your own, stick close to someone who is.
    • warehouse tip: following the green line on the map provided earlier, the fourth blue dot is inside a small room with two openable doors. It is often over-looked, and is the least defended of all the crates (few enemies spawn in the room, and the ones outside often get stuck on the doors).
    • 4.5 - after the cutscene, some leaders may want everyone to wait before heading into the courtyard to ensure everyone that has a temp power knows what to do with it. And/or to facilitate the transfer of all temp powers to one or two characters. Sadly this part is often ignored - and one or more players go through the door and start the timer against the leader's wishes.
  • Phase 5.1* - Use acids on portals. If you have an acid, ensure no one else is near your portal - it is possible with timing, to waste two temps on a single portal. If for whatever reason you are a couple of acids short, there is a container that will respawn throughout marauder's fight.
  • Phase 5.2* - pacification grenades. Ideally, announce your intention to throw a grenade at Marauder before he enrages. This lowers the possibility of two grenades being used simultaneously.
  • Phase 5.3 - Beating on marauder. Keep beatin' on him until he's dead (sorry; 'defeated'). He'll jump around to different points in the courtyard at certain intervals. Just chase after him and resume beating. If you see red text indicating "Nova Fist! Back away!". Back the heck away! It's unresistable and will render everyone in range down to a sliver of health.
*5.1 and 5.2 can be skipped if it is an attempt at the master badges. This fact should be stated several times throughout the trial if it is a master run.

And lastly, as for why you're getting kicked... Dunno, I wasn't there and have few clues as to why that would be. But off the top of my head - If your roleplaying involves much use of chat/chatbinds, try to keep it to local or (if you still can) NPC. League (and to a lesser extent, team) chat are being used primarily to herd sheep. Constantly using them for things other than organizing the teams can cause people to miss (potentially) vital instructions.

Peace of advice: The harder you make your posts to read, the less likely people are to care about what you say.
  • Don't use other fonts for your entire post, as most are hard on the eyes and are hard to read.
  • Don't use bold for your entire post, it is hard on the eyes and is hard to read.
  • Don't use text colors for your entire post as it is likely hard to read.

Going to Bolded Impact isn't an improvement.

Yeah, I was typing up my reply before that was posted.

Yeah, if you aren't going to use a font that is easy to read, you might as well be typing in wingdings, because few people are going to bother trying to figure out what it is you've said. It just isn't worth the eyestrain. If you absolutely must visually differentiate your text from that of others; consider Times New Roman (no bold, or italics). It's easy enough to read and allows for a little flare. In size 3, it's even a little easier to read (standard size is a mite smaller than the board's standard font).

Little do you people realize, that DangerWoman35 is actually the evil villain FourEyes in disguise, perpetrating her dastardly schemes on the forums to inflict eyestrain upon readers everywhere! Muahaha!!!

New Times Roman was developed as a newpaper font. As such, it's kinda small and packed together. The idea was to cram as many words as possible into a small space to reduce the printing costs of the newpaper. So, yes generally you have to bump up the size a bit.

You might consider a different serif font instead of Times Roman, like Georgia, which is naturally closer to "normal" size.

Terrible font; didn't read.
