Leading speed ITF and quirky teammates
Did they smell like AE? It has a distinct odor. Especially the one in Freedom's Atlas Park.
short answer -- some people are leeches and need to be kicked from the team

Yup you should have kicked them from the team.
Yeah, much as I hate speed runs I have little sympathy for people who join something that is advertised as a speed run then complain that it's a speed run.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. Winston Churchill
I've only run 3 ITF's ever- 1 speed, 1 Shard farm, 1 unspecified so I'm far from an expert, but I wonder if there's some difference in perception of what really is the fastest technique for some of these missions. From my own limited experience, the "speed" ITF failed to do the shards faster or more effectively than either of the others.
Now, there are probably many different ways to "speed" through the cysts, but my experience was: "everyone run/sneak past the mobs, take a cyst down, then run/sneak to the next one." In this case "everyone" translated to "non-squishies that can survive the attacks of the chasing mobs." The result was that the groups were split, the sqishies dead along the route, and when the ambushes came, they died again, as did some of the others that got distracted trying to pull things together (I, the TF newb, lived, but I was blindly following along with the stealthers, ignorant of the squishie death till the cursing started).
It was slow and ridiculously inefficient.
In the "shard farm" and the unspecified one, our squishies stayed with us, kept us fully buffed, had their pets out, and everyone AND their pets remained at constant fulcrum shift. We STEAMROLLED through that map with no deaths and at an easily-faster rate than the speed ITF did.
Is that just random chance, or are there times when the fastest resolution for a task force IS to actually kill everything between you and your objectives? I mean, three samples hardly makes me an expert on these...

Good speed TFing means matching the tactics to the team. On teams where there are enough support characters to hand out appropriate amounts of buffs (mmm, Cold shields), then the teams can split and clear out the cysts long before the shields wear off and the squishies will be fine. Sometimes, a squishy might take a string of unlucky hits and go down, but on speed runs I take part in they probably won't have time to make it back from the hospital before the mission is over. On the other hand, if there isn't that level of buffing, then squisihies need to bring plenty of purple and orange protection of their own, or the team needs to stick more closely together.
But, certainly, with the right team makeup, splitting up for the cysts can be blindingly fast and safe.

Death is part of my attack chain.
There is good speed TFing and bad speed TFing.

I didn't see anyone complaining about about it. I saw a couple of leeches.

Sounds like they were trying (in vain) to keep up, thus the deaths.
They sounded to me like they didnt know what to do (and the full inspirsation tray when dead is a common common thing).
It sounded like they had no clue what a speed run meant for ITF, and it wasnt explained, and they didnt think to ask.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
I think you are all being a bit hard on them.. While I wasn't there, so cant say for sure, calling them 'leachers' might be pushing it.. It sounds like (at least one) was trying, failing, but trying. Can you call that leaching?
The fact remains that running a speed ITF as a squishy is fairly tricky. If you're not built for Defense, and you lack a major supply of purples, (or don't know whats going on) you'll be face planting a lot. Especially in that second mission when the ambushes start popping up all over the place.
I'm wagering they didn't even know what a "Speed ITF" meant, but probably should have asked you before hand.
So I led a speed ITF last night with 3 squishies, including me. I specifically announced that the ITF was speed and there was a shard ITF also forming at the same time. Before I started, I mentioned that the ITF will be speed because I have other 50s that I need my notice on. Folks seemed ok with that so I started it.
After freeing 3 sibyls, I noticed that the other 2 squishies, both kins, weren't with us. So I TPd one over, hoping for some delicious fulcrum shift. We finished the sibyls and ran to the altar. Once again, the kins weren't there and one was dead. So I TPd them to the altar and rezed. For the cysts, I asked the kins to at least keep the melee boosted, and they don't have to participate in attacking since the cysts explode and if they attack they will grab agro. As for me, my general strategy to stay alive was to eat lucks and debuff the cysts to make it easier to kill for melee. While doing the cysts, one of the kins said something like, 'if you don't clear the mobs, the squishies will die.' I wasn't sure how to reply to that, since it's a speed ITF. The team won't stop and kill mobs. So I eventually said, 'I have 20% def, so I just eat lucks and keep up.' I didn't die once during the cyst run while the kins died and lay there. The kin said other things, but I didn't want to argue, so I said nothing. For the last mission, one of the kins kept dying a lot, so I rezed him whenever my rez was ready and tried to pass some of my lucks, sturdys and heals to him. His inventory was full. WTH? It boggled my mind... why was he not converting all those insps to luck to boost his defense? Why did he have to wait for me to rez when he could have converted them to a wakie? I prolly got a bad rep from the kins. It's a speed ITF, so I'm guessing they didn't know what that means. I suppose I could've slowed it down for them, but I only have a couple of hours in the evenings. |
