The Costume Creator is Stagnating

It seems that as often as Hasten is brought up they would try to change it.

I would like to see more actual colours to choose from. I'm surprised that hasn't been mentioned before. I'd love to see more variety in every area and an overhaul of the general costume creator interface.

It seems to me that a lot of the requests for specific chin/nose/eyes/legs options would benefit from a completely redone character model. I'd love to see this too and I'd love to see new expressions and even fingers on the players. Having said that given the current age of the game I'd have to admit that this isn't very likely and it'd be more likely for a COH2 game.

This tool is enough to get you into the game and to differentiate yourself from others. CoH's "stagnating" Costume Creator is still way more than what others have. Also, do you buy the boosters? They have additions.

I don't think the issue is more choices but just having a nicer interface that's user intuitive. They can never add enough costume options but finding a way to sort through all the choices would be lovely.

Plus the power customization window its so broken now its not funny. Either animations for certain powers don't play at all or they play the wrong power animation. Very annoying.

What are you talking about? I just respeced 2 characters and I was able to change the animations when they were available and change the power illuminations/hues.

I mean *certain* powers with certain powerset trees are borked. They won't play the right animation in the tailor window however you'll end up with the right animation once you go back to live mode.

trying to toggle both day and night modes in the costume or animation selection window is also a headache. Its either one or the other but not both. Day mode when building a praetorian blinds the **** out of my color scheme and toon presentation window.

I remember back when, there was a downloadable offline costume editor. It was VERY incomplete, but that's not the point. What I liked about it was after creating your costume you could flip through a range of emotes, stances and animations so you can get a really good idea of how the costume looks in motion. Sure you can do that on the power customization screen, but then you also have to deal with the particles/effects/etc from your powers.

I often find that I'll make a costume that looks great in the editor, but once I get out and start doing missions and such, somehow it just doesn't look as good anymore.

Plus there's the seeming missing camera zoom to anywhere but head and upper torso. Used to be able to zoom to focus on gloves/legs/boots when you were working on those parts.

I'll also third (4th/5th?) the asymetrical parts.

Allowing non barfy colors for dark and ice powersets would be nice too. It's hard to make dark armor/blast/melee/miasma look good as anything other than black since everything STILL has a heavy black 'fuzz' at the core of the particle animation. Ice colors are just kinda dull. Haven't you guys ever seen a popsicle?

This please. Would be ridiculously helpful to how to see how different auras match up when they're toggled, and how attacks look with the auras up.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

good luck D.B.B.

Speaking of little check boxes, we need some for costume parts.

The preset costumes are a good jumping off point but sometimes your going through options and they are a ton that are just junk that's in your way. Like chitin when your making a natural MA scraper or enforcer parts when makinging your troll mutation brute.

Some checkboxes we could use.
I like the little checkboxes with there cute little faces and wet noses.

A section for each origin
  • Natural
  • Science
  • Mutation
  • Etc.

A section for concepts like
  • Robots
  • Marshal Artists
  • Bugs
  • Knights
  • Etc.

A section for comic book era's
  • Golden Age
  • Sliver Age
  • Bronze Age
  • Modern

With limiting options we can find stuff faster and not have to deal with the "clutter" of parts we never use. Along with the preset limiters we should be able to make our own filters. For example say you never want to see the clutter of the Greek letters in the CC just open a menu and add them to the "do not show" list and "vola!" gone.

Are there any devs left to change it?

More and more its looking like there's a new maintenance crew of Devs moving to center stage while Posi, War Witch and others start moving out of the limelight - possibly forever. Kinda sad to see everybody go after 7 years of playing but I have absolutely no idea who all these NEW red names are that are taking over for them or how they're roles now work together to keep the game moving forward. I don't even know which of them you'd ask to update Hasten - and would they?

Geez, I'm such a Year One geezer, lol.

I took the last two years off from City of Heroes, and as a returning player there are certain aspects of the Costume Creator that both thrill me, and greatly disappoint me.

I love that they finally introduced Power Customization. It still needs some work, but I do like what I see so far.

The big disappointment though is that there's very little new content in the CC. Having been gone for 2 years, 6 issues, and a full-fledged expansion, there's really only a small handful of new costume pieces in the CC.

In fact, it seems to me that there's more new pieces available via the now-numerous "Booster Packs". That still bugs me to no end; micro-transactions in a subscription-based game. If there were ways that could also unlock those pieces in-game, I wouldn't have a problem (much like how Team Fortress 2 handles its economy), but there's several pieces I'd love to have that I likely will never get, as I can barely justify paying a monthly subscription for the game, let alone spending $40 or so dollars for a handful of costume options.

Anyhow, that's my two cents worth.

To be honest, we barely got new pieces before the boosters came out. Sure, it's been a little while since we got the last batch, but I'm pretty sure I20 will introduce a few new sets. Point is, boosters have tremendously increased the amount of costume pieces we get on a regular basis. And if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have certain new features designed solely for costumes, such as costume change emotes or the ability to use different genders per costume slot and changing height.

Let's see. We got Clockwork, Resistance and the Praetorian police. Very recently with i19, didn't we?

Still here, even after all this time!

Overguard, Sport, Clockwork, Resistance, PPD, etc. All those pieces were unlocked when you bought Going Rogue. Technically not a booster, but I'm sure people would complain regardless because you had to spend extra money and didn't get 'em for free.

The things that I think would add a lot to the CC is being able to two tone the aura colors and being able to have asymmetrical costume parts. This would require no NEW art but several database changes to existing art combinations. I'd like to have mix matches feet and hands of all sorts not just robotic arms.

Of course new costume bits are always welcomed but I think we can get a lot more mileage with just those two above for starters.

I agree with the OP. Asymetrical designs are needed in a big way. Head options need to reworked as well. I want all head details available to all types of heads. I want monstrous heads to be able to have options. Hats, hair, glasses, horns, etc... Maybe switch to 3 colors on outfit pieces. Where's our pouches and gun holsters? Stationary wings? Backpacks?
