Who keeps the box after 7 years?

I had to wait on the phone for 15 minutes, but I was able to get them to reset everything.

They are more convenience questions than security questions.

As far as security questions, I answer them incorrectly as well. But I remember which incorrect answers I give. Sometimes it's simple things which might still be figured out I suppose, like putting my sister's married last name in for mother's maiden name. It's still a different last name than mine but someone determined might be able to figure it out.
On the Gripping Hand, if someone is that determined to break into my CoH account then they are gonna do it anyways. Security is what you make of it. Change your password every ninety days to anything important and don't sweat the small things.
"SARS, Bird Flue, 9/11, Anthrax in the Mail, Mad Cow Disease. Pope John Paul didn't die, he preboarded." - Christopher Titus "5th Annual End of the World Tour"
Hmm, well since you're asking... went down to the basement and checked - really dusty, but still there are my original CoH box, my CoV box (and a big binder, was that extra?), the second CoV box I bought when they were on mega-discount and I mistakenly thought I could get a cheap $5 month for my main account, my GvE box, and my GR box. I even had to unsub for 2.5 years while back in school and I'm not living in the same house I was seven years ago; weird at times the stuff you choose to keep.
Now that you mention it, should I be peeved that I don't have any boxes for the booster packs I bought? Maybe I could get them to send me a spare box or two...
Glad you got it all sorted out, though. It shouldn't be an actual requirement to hang on to the box forever.

Should be enough, I'd hope, should I ever need it.
You can have an account and the game without a box. The box should have nothing to do with a pay account. You got either a generic response via email, or an idiot. Call them. Tell them:
- You already have the game on your computer.
- You have the credit card number for the account.
- You have all other relevant security information like DOB etc.
If it is your account, they will be glad to let you pay for it.

He got the standard generic response that's sent immediately after making a request of these sorts that asks for that information. Just fill in the blanks then instead of having to wait for a person to ask for the information. And, as already said on the first page, you don't have to fill in everything.

You're quite late to this thread. Also, I don't see how "You already have the game on your computer.", since the client itself is freely distributed (the link to the old updater has been directly linked on these boards countless times... it's on a public FTP server... plus there's the whole NCLauncher).

I have one of my boxes, it's actually the CoV box that I started with, but only by fluke; it's in my "old computer games" box that never gets unpacked unless I want to play something, and everything goes back in when I'm done rummaging.

I've only gotten a thank you for the purchase note, with order number and a This code was applied to the City of Heroes / City of Villains account xxx without a code displayed.
I wonder if this is an option in account settings or somethng. As above, I've never gotten two emails, with one with having the entire code.

I just went through my Email Archives and the earliest code I could verify seeing was at the beginning of 2009 which was the mac/valkrie Pack.

I'm aiming on getting the party pack when I get the vanguard oack, so will pay close attention to what I get sent then.
But I do have a gmail, and dont delete emails, so things like the code for animal pack should show up if sent.

I guess I'm not normal... I still have my original boxes and the activation e-mails. It even says in the game book, or mine did, that you should keep the serial code and stuff for the future in case ANYTHING happens with your account.
I am also one of those that don't use gibberish as my security Q. I actually use something I will, without a doubt know and remember. And if I think I won't? I write it down.

The purchase email has the subject of: "Thank you for your purchase from the NCsoft Store"
Followed by an email with the subject of: "NCsoft Serial Code Applied"
The second email body is always the same (expected as an automated system):
You have successfully applied the following serial code to NCsoft Master Account: XXXXXXXX Date : <Insert date here MMM DD YYYY> Game : City of Heroes Account: XXXXXXXX Serial : XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX Type : <Insert type here, PERK or RETAIL> Save this e-mail for your reference. You may need to provide the serial code to a customer service representative to obtain customer support. We look forward to seeing YOU in the game! The NCsoft Team |

Call CoH/CoV billing support, they're very helpful and fast. All I was asked to provide was D.O.B. and postal code to confirm my account and the Support Rep enabled me to log into my Master account with just the D.O.B.,which was really nice. You'll be put in a queue list but it shouldn't take too long, provided you call them early enough. If you send them e-mail on the issue, they'll of course want you provide as much as the codes as possible along with the usual info needed. Having two accounts,I was able to get both of mine unlocked from putting in the wrong security answers(most don't remember them or have them anymore.)
(I keep the boxes with the serial codes but was locked out due to incorrectly guessing the security question's answers, like many others and called in since it seemed more better for me;e-mailing required you to list down as much serial codes as you can along with the other required info, calling bypassed it.) |
I failed the security questions (and wonder what the hell I did put in as the answer myself).
I called support and everything was fixed right away.
I have my GR box code, sadly, while I know I kept my other CoH codes, I think they've been misplaced in a few moves.

Doesn't everyone keep their codes just in case you might need them, if not the entire box? I thought that was common sense. That's your proof that you have a legit copy of the program.

Really considering the number of games per year, the total number of games for the last ten years alone, most people dont want to save that much stuff.
They sell the game as a licence to use their product not as a physical product.
*Security questions are not the same as, as good as, or a suitable replacement for two factor authentication, in fact they weaken security by making it easier for 3rd parties to gain information about how to access your account because facts about you are much easier to find out that what is essentially an entirely arbitrary password</rant>

NCSoft needs to come out with their version of the keychain and/or Ios/Android security key. Anything less can be social engineered or internet data mined.
