My point was more along the lines of "She's been fighting gods, wearing spandex/skirt for a long time now, I don't see how leather/pleather makes a difference"

((Ahhhh... well... I see your point. But I've never been a fan of her strapless bathing suit costume. I remember back in the 60's when they gave her a fashionable white jumpsuit that I thought it was an improvement (though I never understood why they had to take away her powers in order to improve her look).

In my opinion, if you want to design a costume for a melee-type, female superhero, then you should start with something along these lines http://www.bravadawomen.com/performance_tops/ and build from there.))

Look at that old picture. Now look at the new one. See what's missing from the new one? Try a girl that has something resembling an athletic build for a character who's supposed to be a warrior. There's not much you can do with a costume to make Twig Inflataboob look like anything but a theme night stripper....

But there's not enough leg showing and the boots are wrong! D:

Oh yeah, I can agree with the athletic build complaint. If she's going to be smacking around villains, well, she should look like she can at least lift a microwave with ease. Or actually hold someone in a headlock. =|

Her strength is magical. She's born from clay. She could look like an anorexic preteen and have the strength and durability to to smack around villains and even hold someone in a headlock.

Yes, but would Wonder Woman look like an anorexic preteen? I doubt it. She lives an active life style and actually eats, so by logic she'd be fairly athletic.

Besides, when you present your character to your audience, would you want them to immediately react with "Wow, she looks like she could arm wrestle Superman!" or "Good god, get that girl something to eat!"?

((Keep in mind she's an Amazon also, and that her people are athletes and warriors, even if her powers are somewhat magical in nature, strength, skill, and athleticism are all part of her culture. She would not be skinny.

Oh, Lucy Lawless -- where are you when we need you?))

Agreed. However, the actress they have now looks like she eats.

And really don't care for Lucy Lawless being cast as Wonder Woman, she just doesn't look the part to me either (not that the current one cast does, but I hate hearing Lucy Lawless, when it's only because she did Xena that people say it).

I have no idea, and while the new WW costume is ok, why can't she get something resembling the picture above?

Oh! I know! How about she gets something that covers more than 40% of her tits? =D

No, seriously, sexy costumes are great... but there's a point when you have to wonder why this warrior woman would be strutting basically asking "Shoot me in the chest, please. I don't want to live."

Because fanboys whine if they can't imagine their female protagonists naked, and they have very limited imaginations.

Ice/Ice Blaster. Dedication to concept is an ugly thing.
Claws/WP Brute. Sex without the angst.
Every CoX character lies somewhere on this spectrum.

So, yeah... I think the decision for pants was likely based around the actress having slender legs.

While I find the casting, in that regard, somewhat disappointing, since they're going with a more normal body (for an actress ) I can see changing it in that regard.

While Lynda Carter may not look all that athletic now (although, obviously bigger than the new girl), that was a bunch of years ago, and athletic builds are a bit larger in our society today (the discus-throwing olympian female athletic build, we're talking about here).

While the ship has sailed on the whole Lucy Lawless thing... It's not simply because she played Xena that people wanted her to be Wonder Woman...
It was because she's basically the only actress to come along that has that natural size and charisma that such a fantastical character as Wonder Woman screams for.
Lucy Lawless is a rarity. I can totally understand why fans clamored for her to play WW.

For the record, I'm neither familiar with WW nor Xena... I've just seen enough of both to recognize the simplicity in that connection.

I think maybe Craig Ferguson could be a great Wonder Woman.

Ah, for what might have been...

Where do we go from here?

I think I'm just used to picturing end of Xena, Lucy Lawless, versus beginning of Xena.

Same thing happens when I picture Wesley from Angel. I think of end of Angel, Wesley, rather than the Wesley you see in Buffy/Season 2 Wesley.

So, Lucy Lawless just never seems like the right pick for Wonder Woman to me. So yeah, younger Lucy Lawless for sure could of fit the bill.

The one I thought would make a good Wonder Woman was that gal who played Inara in Firefly.

Someone I'd have wanted to see try out for the role was Bridget Regan (Khalan from Legend of the Seeker). I remember reading somewhere that she did most of her own stuntwork and fight scenes, so at the very least she was physically qualified for the role, and some of the mock-ups I saw of her in the Wonder Bustier looked decent (though how accurate they'd have been to reality I don't know).

My biggest complaint with this isn't the costume, though. It's just that they're turning Wonder Woman into some pastiche of Tony Stark and Batman. Maybe I'd buy it if it were a cover identity established for her in Man's World. But, insofar as we have seen to date, there's no mention of Themyscira, the Amazons, or Greek mythology in this show. At all. And that just screams "doom" to me.

I'm sorry. Of course, I meant to say not "doom" but "DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!11!!1!!1!one!1shift!"

At one time this was more than rumor that Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra in Firefly) was in the running to play WW but then that was when Joss Whedon was involved in the WW movie too.
