MMO Subscriber numbers
If those numbers are actually correct, I'm stunned.
Compared to the financial statements from NCSoft, there's a disconnect someplace. Or how "subscribers" are counted is something hokey.
But if there are really, 125K subs, that's DAMN impressive for a 7 year old game.
Granted, I'd REALLY hate to see what server loads looked like with Aion's numbers.
That said, the numbers for Evercrack...Everquest and Ultima Online are even MORE impressive! 12 and 14 years respectively for each of those games.
Here's hoping CoH goes that long! (I wants me some vet rewards dammit!)
168 month Reward: (Great Old One) Jesus Christ you're persistent! Okay! Here's the devs' "I win" button. It's usable once in a 24 hour period and kills EVERYTHING* on the map.
* Everything includes PCs too.
LOL!!! love those vet awards! But you are right, I sure hope they are accurate, would be amazing!

Aion at 3.5 million? Are there a couple of extra zeros? Didn't they just do a server merge a few months ago?
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

That sounds about right for us. If we're really in the top ten still, that is awesome.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
The only source cited seems to be mmodata.net, which doesn't seem to have added any data for CoH/V since 2009ish. So I'd take most/all of those with a very large pinch of salt.
Always remember, we were Heroes.
That was the US release. There's also the Korean release which uses different servers... which is probably doing MUCH better (it's a CRAZILY grindy game). I assume those numbers are the sum of all versions.

Edit: Devs, could we get something like this? For those of us curious about such things? (Level breakdown overall/by side, AT popularity, etc.)
I'd question the credibility of the numbers for Warhammer, as well. They just had *another* server merge I think, which I believe brings them to something like two US servers and one EU. Or something. (It's not many, in any case.) The only way I can imagine those numbers being even slightly legitimate is if they're counting "Endless Free Trial" accounts, IE, the ones that never expire and are capped at level ten.

I thought they had released some static numbers at one point recently, maybe around Going Rogue. Does anyone know what the breakdowns were?

Those numbers in the OP are at least a year old despite the 'edit' date on the blog. The blog post itself is close to being a year old.

Instead of a quick spike and return to normal like it usually goes with an issue release, we seem to have maintained a decent increase this time. Pinnacle is frequently yellow these days, at least during prime time, and Pinnacle is generally in the bottom 5 servers population-wise. I haven't seen that happen with any regularity since 2007 or so. And they supposedly increased the server capacity not that long ago as well.
So, if that data is a year old and the servers are busier now than they were a year ago, I'd say that's a good thing.

It's also possible that they've added some stuff to the game that works the servers harder for the same number of characters-in-action. That would result in more yellow and red servers. (I'd say "It's also likely" but that would suggest some sort of inside knowledge, which I do not have.)

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Yes, those numbers are almost two years old. Not up to date at all.
And we do have financial reports during the time post-Going Rogue that we first started having red/yellow server loads again, and those revenues are down substantially. Downscaled server architecture is one possible explanation, or higher concurrency despite lower population, or a combination of those or other factors.
But fear not. This game will celebrate its 12th anniversary.

This time last year PinnBadges (Pinnacle global channel) averaged between 80 and 100 people online at any given time. Currently it averages between 120 and 140, with spikes up over 200 during primetime.
Interestingly enough, a lot of the people contributing to the larger numbers are people who used to play, but I hadn't seen on it a long time.
It doesn't seem so much like we got a lot of NEW players, just a lot of the old players returning to check out the new stuff.

I'm also taking into account the larger number of people I have seen playing at a given time.

While I agree that the servers are yellow and red a lot more often compared to a year ago, it doesn't necessarily mean more subscribers. It could mean that the same number of subscribers are playing more. Or it could also mean that fewer subscribers are playing a lot more.

I agree, I think the Incarnate activity has brought maybe some folks back that had dormant 50s or at least for those already subscribed, making them play more frequently.

Mmm...
This is a very interesting thread, thank you for the information is to say the least "eye opening".
Maybe its bias, giggles, but I would have thought CoH would have more than a mere 125K players. I would like to learn more on how the statistic was collected, so its true meaning can be better understood.
It seems the statistics for some of the games are solely U.S. data, while others are global in nature, not sure my perception is correct.
It still concerns me that CoH is 125,000 players, seems kinda low to me. It also amazes me that WoW is so huge after all this years, I know too many people who left the game for its excesive grind, but as Barnum Bailey said: "There is a sucker born every minute"
I would have thought CoH would have been larger, since as far as I can tell, it's got to be the most active game in terms of adding new content and things to do! I played Dark Age of Camelot, and while they have outstanding customer service, they do not add new material too often, they tend to go a few years and then a new release hits. WoW its the same as DAOC, every two years there is a new expansion. Guild Wars, same as the others but for a game with no monthly subscription: That ain't bad. Star Wars, same deal, etc.
So I crossing my fingers for CoH to rise to the top!

Found this website which had subscriber numbers for MMOs as of Feb 3rd, 2011. If its accurate then looks like CoX is doing ok.. am investigating to see if I can find the source since it was my understanding that NCSoft didn't publish subscriber numbers anymore.
