Why no /sonic?
I don't think the devs have said. My guess is since they've been proliferating one secondary at a time, they started with the ones least like what MMs already had. So, MMs get /Storm first, while they've put /Sonic on a backburner because there's already a "bubble" set in the form of /FF.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
I would luuuuuuurrrvvvvv to get Sonic for my MMs. Radiation too, as long as I am dreaming.
/Sonic and /Rad for MMs would be fairly overpowered with just the 40% or so reduction from defender levels. A bruiser or oni with disruption field kept on them would be horrifying. Awesome, but still horrifying. Rad is less of an issue but both sets will require a lot of balance work, which likely moves them further down the priority list. Also probably why /kinetics MMs will never, ever happen even tho' a Ninjas/Kin would be the best thing ever.
I'm having a hard time seeing /Sonic as overpowered for MMs. TA already provides more -Res than Sonic. Sonic in general seems to be regarded as less effective than Thermal and we have Thermal MMs.
Kinetics is most perplexing to me when people hype that up as OP for MMs. Here's how I see a Kin/Ninja MM's life - Fulcrum shift > *splat*. All a Kin has to keep pets alive is a heal that a) has to hit b) needs the pet to be in range of the heal. I wouldn't bet on henchmen, least of all Ninjas, staying exactly where they need to. I won't even get into how the pets can't take advantage of sb's +rch (though I guess I just did).

We need the old school oh-my-god-this-game-is-making-me-vomit Sonic vfx returned before we give it to Masterminds. After all, what better Master over the Minds than one that gives their opposition migraines?
I want /Rad damn it! Must create nuclear robots.

If you note, all the 'strongest' mastermind sets have a means of keeping the pets from getting hit. Why? With level differences, aggro, and lack of common sense most minions can squish fast, but defense bypasses lower hp than players, as it fixes the dice so those lower hitpoints don't get touched so much.
/Sonic only makes those hitpoints dwindle more slowly, though it does speed kills as well. It could not be construed as overpowered, even with the ability to control where the ally -res toggle goes. Without some breaks, healing from the primary, or well-used candy, your pets will die slowly, but they will die.
/Rad....well, let's put it this way. It could do what ill/rad 's can do with a several billion budget, except with SO's. Rad throws numbers into a jumble by making tough stuff easy, and by indirectly or directly increasing ally damage, resistance, defense, and recovery. I do not foresee it coming. Also- if you you can fallout pets, hax.
/Kin.....hm. It's weak defensively, but masterminds get bodyguard. That's a big problem, balance-wise. Out of bodyguard, it's +rech/recovery is less useful on pets, and it lacks much minion preservation, and most of its debuffs serve a defensive role. The close focus is very good for melee pets, less so for cone-based pets. It's really only bodyguard holding this back, in my opinion.
There really is no reason not to have /sonic. The other two, that gets iffy.
P.S. /Cold. Hmmmm....
Hey, now you get /Sonic!
I don't see myself making one of these.

I don't know, Bots/Sonic looks good to me - Res, Def and Healing should be interesting. I dread to think what fun Thugs/Sonic will have with Bruiser + Disruption Field.

Not sure how well /Sonic would work on MM. I can see it works well with only two sets: Thug and Demon. Both boss pets are melee-oriented so you have a good anchor for Disruption. Both Grave Knights and Jounin are quite squishy for anchor even with the weaker Sonic Shields.
Hell, my old /Sonic Corruptor even had trouble surviving with better sonic values.
I don't know man. If I want resistance-based set, I think /Thermal is better. This of course doesn't include teaming. If you have a Brute friend, I can see /sonic being more user-friendly on MM.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Still, Sonic should be pretty effective as a Tankermind set, particularly if it's combined with Bots or Thugs to provide defensive buffs for their pets to get layered defenses and of course going up against heave defense debuffs the resistances will win out over Traps/FF.

Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Sonic Repulsion might get more use on a MM. I'd use it. My corrupter had a pet once. I stuck it on a pet and found it pretty sweet for damage mitigation standing next to the pet. A few of what I would call the most challenging NPCs to fight are sometimes not so hard because they're easily knocked about.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
All this does is make me want to roll a Thugs/Thermal.
Though Thugs/Sonic could theme pretty well as a rock and roll band/mosh mob.
Really I'd hope the devs would have given MMs something different from a set we already have. We already have bubble sets in Thermal and Force Fields. This kinda makes Sonic a bit superfluous. Maybe I'm just being wishful, but I really would have liked /Rad or /Kin. But as I understand it, they are in the works, or at least planned for some time down the road.
Saving the best for last, I guess.

/son was (last time I was active) one of the rarest debuff sets I saw played, and definitely one of the ones I preferred to have on a team (toggle resist & status protection + toggle -res on ally + 1t -res are really handy).
I think it's probably third after FF and Traps. The native defense values of those sets provide more average mitigation than Sonic's resistances. Additionally both sets have more options for soft control which helps to reduce incoming damage. |

Pretty obvious that /sonic MMs are going to be hurting without the Medicine pool IMO.
Would be glorious to have disruption on a brute thug or even on ninjas, although they would benefit more from ff.

Sonic masterminds with sonic dispersion get good mezz protection. Disruption field applies the same debuff whether minion or boss-class pet. Bruiser, Demon Prince (or the 2nd tiers), grave knights, one of the bots always seems to run in, when he dashes in-hit him with the debuff. Ninjas would do well with the debuff aura and the resistance shields. Mercs would be the hard one to anchor the debuff, but I hear the medic likes to run in.
Sonic is ahead of Trick Arrow in my book. It's on about the same par as Forcefields. Storm and poison don't have the best heals. Aid other for sonic forcefield and trick arrow would be indicated.
Overall the sonic dispersion, shields and disruption field are great tools. Sonic siphon for big game hunting isn't shabby either.

Sonic has major problems against Psi damage. It offers zero defense or protection and can't heal the damage back. Force Field is vulnerable to a subset of Psi (derrived from Mind and Illusion Control mainly) but Sonic gets absolutely destroyed.
I don't know. I'd never tell a person not to play a certain set, but Sonic to me is sub-par. Compared to Thermal you get a little extra resistance and personal mezz protection, but lose tons of HP (since healing your pets in BG mode extends your own life). It does have some -Resistance, but its associated with an annoying power with a very high endurance cost.
Hi,
I was curious why masterminds don't have access to the Sonic Resonance powerset. I understand that originally each archetype was supposed to have a few powersets for his own, but proliferation changed that a couple of issues ago.
Was Sonic Resonance just not proliferated yet, or are there more serious concerns that prevent masterminds from going acoustic?
