Fears: Still not quashed
A number of weeks ago, I made a thread voicing my concern over the lack of willingness (At least on my server) to do any non-Incarnate based activity, or generally anything that wasn't high level.
My general team-finding incompetence may have had something to do with that, but it has been several weeks now and I have been more pro-active in my searches. And yet, teams are still a rare thing for me. At least, at a low level. I suspect that this will continue until Incarnates is done, but how long will that take? Months (Issue 20)? I fear even a number of more years. Though there are two new TF's announced in the level 20-40 area, I doubt it will affect the amount of people doing Incarnate based activities very much. I've considered taking a break, however, having cancelled my subscriptions to any other MMO and having no new games to play on my Xbox or PS3, i'm left with little choice. Finally, I would like to add to any sort of 'Official' reading this, that I subscribed to this game because I -HATE- endgame. I like making alts. I don't want to be lumped with the same two characters until Incarnates washes over sometime in the distant future. Don't become what I've tried to escape from. ./endrant |
Just wondering what server your on? Even on Liberty as long as I advertise on the global channels I can usually find a team doing something (at least blueside - redside is basically dead over there).
On my other "home" server, Virtue, there are constantly teams at basically all levels, so while things have gone down across the board, there are usually things for lowbies to do.

Union. Non-50 things are advertised very occasionally, but they don't get much notice. Last time I did a Posi1 advertised on the global channels, it got 4 people. Four.
Before Incarnates, something like that would be an instant sell-out.
I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
Well, good thing Posi only needs 3 peeps then.
I understand where you're coming from, but surely you can start building a group of people with the same interests as you and play with them, yes?

If this trouble is extremely recent, then it can in part be blamed on the fact that Pokemon and Dragon Age 2 came out this week. >Everything's< going to have a bit of a manpower shortage, and I doubt CoH is the only MMO to be experiencing it.
Don't get me wrong, I like playing with friends. But sometimes, they're either occupied, or I want to team -now- opposed to later. Sometimes a duo just doesn't cut it for me.
Oh, and just now, on one of the global channels, someone suggested level 20+ teaming. They got no response. Not one. I would have responded, but like I said, duoing I find dull. I like groups. But finding these like-minded people only happens to me once in a blue moon.
And why don't I friend them and play with them all the time? Because this is an MMO, and I want to play with more than just the same 3 people time and time again. If I wanted to play with 2 friends, i'd hop onto my Xbox.

Always remember, we were Heroes.
I'm not a psychic, I don't know who likes to duo and who doesn't.
Edit: Right, i'm tired, aching and disappointed because my chief entertainment of the night was disappointing in every sense of the word. Just let the thread disappear, I really .. really cannot be bothered with what is effectively bashing my head off of a brick wall.

If a few other people shared your hesitation, then that means you all would have missed out on a TEAM, not merely a duo. Sometimes, if I'm just looking for one or two people to give me a hand with a mission, I'll broadcast. And sometimes, when I instead get several private messages in reply, I'll decide, "Screw it heh, looks like this is going to be a full team."
Other times, a duo will slowly become a team as we pick up extra teammates along the way (this is fairly common for me, to see a team grow over the course of an evening). You never know what you're going to get when you speak up, and put yourself out there.

When I want to team, I advertise this on the globals:
I am going to play X-side, level range Y. All are welcome to join, high or low.
Normally i have a team running fast...

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.

Unlike you, however, I don't feel any express need to team. This was the cornerstone of why allowed me to play this game in the first place. If I always had people just waiting for me to log in and play with me, I might feel otherwise, but being that other people have lives too, I can't expect that. This means I can never and will never make a character that "requires" a team in any sense of the word. I don't play games to sit around and wait to be able to play games. If I have to log in and then start looking for a team, then I'm not having fun. And while I may be able to grin and bear it once, I'll be highly unmotivated to do it ever again. This is a large part of why I'm slowly getting rid of all my Blasters. I'm tired of feeling apprehensive to play what should be cool characters.
I don't foresee Incarnates ever being truly "done," as they're being billed as the game's next big cash cow, like what the Architect was supposed to be and completely failed at being. I also don't envision the mad dash to be over anywhere within the next calendar year, so I hope you're a patient man.

I'm not on union. I'm on The Stepchild aka Pinnacle. I have seen, advertised in global channels over the past 3 days:
- Positron 1 and 2.
- Lady Grey
- A Manticore
- A Citadel
- Hero and Villain Tips
- A Hami Raid
- Five Flavors of ITF
- Various AV help calls.
Now, I am not saying that this applies to you, but I have seen on these same global channels people complaining that they can't get a decent team because everyone is running WSF and Incarnate content. So, there's a blind spot in a few mirrors.
If you really want a decent team, make one. People will join. Yeah, you have to ask and sometimes even PM people you don't know all that well, and yeah it's a hassle, and yeah if you were to advertise WSF, you'd fill in 2 minutes, BUT... you can still get a team.
Most of the WSF (except Tin Mage and Apex) you can join with a low level toon and get BEAUCOUP experience. Then, right after it ends, ask people to stick around and do... x.
Lack of teaming starts with lack of willing team leaders, not with content.

The reason I mention this is because I've been running low-level villains and low-level praetorians almost exclusively... Pretty much since I19.5 came out, and whenever I see a call for a non-WTF activity, it's always either out of level range by about 20 levels, or otherwise on the other side of the faction divide.
Come to think of it, it's been literal years since I've run a Virgil Duray SF, and I don't think I've EVER run the one with the sky raiders or the one from that guy in Sharkhead that I don't even remember his name.

That said, I have no idea how Union as a server is. I do know on virtue when I want to frun low level content, I find people wanting to do low level content easy enough.

I don't mean this as a criticism, as you're free to play what you please, but note that almost all the activities you mentiond are hero-specific, and the ITF is quite high-level.

I think in many ways what we're seeing with side-switching is that the Market problems with Redside are now being applied to population. Alignment merits (and to some degree Alignment Powers) encourage people to stick to the extreme alignments. The population of Redside has always been lower and the ability to take preferred ATs to either side simply encouraged that. As the population Redside drops people are less likely to even bother with Redside (unless they like soloing) since it's harder to form a team and consequently move even more characters blueside.

I did run a silver mantiss last night tho! Progress is progress.
It's funny. I miss farms...there I said it! I miss em! I hate em, and I miss em. At least then I could take a toon I enjoy and TF with everyone else who is doing it.
Then again I left a month after AE opened up because of lack of teaming...funny how that all works out in one violent circle of...circle like violence.
I think some people have missed the idea behind the WST. Which is to get people running the older TFs/SFs again. Just two weeks ago was the Silver Mantis task force so if you were on a lower level character it should have been pretty easy to find a team. This week while not super low is also not 50 content is the Ice Mistral SF for villains. The Operative Renault SF will be a WST soon as well. It should be pretty easy to find teams to do all of them because of the mixed player base.
"while some people would say fish, cow, ambush!"-Ice9
Fears of what? That when you finally get a character to level 50 you don't have to retire them and make yet another alt? And the term, End Game, has nothing to do with the addition of content for level 50 characters. In fact, I call it Beginning Game (for my 50's). We've always had traditional end game raid content (Hami Raids, Mother Ship Raids), and no one ever worried about how that would negatively impact the game.
I'm actually drifting back to playing many of my lower level characters (alt-o-holic is me), now that I have had a chance to play some of my 50's again. And I'm having more fun with them now than ever before knowing that when I finally get them to 50 they will still be fun to play with the Incarnate system content. Give it some time, I'm sure most people who are spending most of their time playing their old 50's will come back to playing their lowbies again once the shiny starts to wear off.
This sounds more like a server population issue than a content issue. On virtue I still see lower-level TFs and teams form pretty regularly, especially when a lower level TF is the weekly target.
@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)
