Yes, but nothing new in awhile.

Yeah I hadn't heard anything new about it lately either. It seems like it's going to be one of those movies that'll either really interesting or really dumb. I just don't see it being a middle-of-the-road kind of deal.

I'm personally hoping for an "escape via hallucination" twist ending along the lines of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" but frankly I'd be amazed if they pull off something that compelling with this.

While I havent seen anything discussed about it recently, and have only seen a commercial for it once (which imo is never a good sign), I can't wait to see it! I'll be there March 25th in the theatres ready for what looks to be a good movie.

From I get in the commericial, it is a matrix like world, and she has to fight herself out of it for freedom? If I am not correct someone please tell me what it is supposed to be about then.

*MILD SPOILERS ALERT*

In a nutshell the main character is a girl who's (apparently falsely) imprisoned in a mental institution and she use her "vivid imagination" to cope/escape from reality. It's not clear from the trailers if she ACTUALLY escapes from the nuthouse or if this is all just a fantasy she creates for herself as she goes insane for real.

That's why I think it'd be cool if they handle Sucker Punch like the "Owl Creek Bridge" story I mentioned. In that story a Civil War soldier is about to be hung but somehow escapes the noose and makes a fantastically desperate attempt to get home. Turns out the entire "escape" never actually happened and the whole story was just an instantaneous "life flashing before his eyes" hallucination he experiences seconds before they hang him.

If they apply that kind of twist to this movie it'd be great. Basically she "imagines" that they all become cool ninja warrior-chicks but in reality she's just moments away from a lobotomy that's going to effectively kill her anyway. That'd be tragically cool.

Given it's a Zack Schneider film there isn't a chance in hell of anything remotely that good.

Well like I said I was just thinking of a cool way this movie could turn out.
Sadly, like you, I'm not really -expecting- it to do anything remotely like this.

Another cool twist ending would be, she already had the lobotomy and as a result in her "coma" she dreams up this whole fantasy. The ending would be, the camera goes fuzzy and backs out, then slowly backs right back in and becomes clears onto her eye and backs out again but clear and it's her lying in bed with the lobotomy scar on her head, and with movie magic with background noise and the images in her eye you can tell while she is lying there in bed she is "dreaming" of the fanatasy world.

I'd agree any variation of a "twist" like this would be cool.

Sadly I'm basically expecting it to go more like this: Using her awesome imagination she somehow "transfers" her fantasy-based virtual ninja-girl powers into the real world and she physically escapes the mental institution in a blaze of Kill Bill styled gunfire and swordfighting to get her revenge on the people who put her there. Because as we all know any cute girl can "imagine" themselves into a ninja killing machine IRL and it'll happen for real.

Actually, one of the trailers indicates that the fantasy does reflect an escape plan and it shows the various tasks they have to complete with their real and fantastical versions.

Eh, I never claimed I've seen every trailer for this movie so far.

But if what you say is the case then my fears that they're going to let the fantasy world bleed into the real world seem justified. I'm still likely going to see this regardless, but like I implied earlier there's still plenty of room for this movie to shoot itself in the proverbial foot.

Why would you fear that?

It seems that by making this move they're allaying fears that this will be an all flash and no substance movie, and the climax will undoubtedly be more powerful.

I "fear" it only because this movie is basically going to hinge on how cheesy (or well done) the "interaction" between the fantasy world and the movie's real world is handled. Frankly I suspect if they let the two merge too freely then the suspension of disbelief in this movie will suffer.

I really have no worries from a "all flash and no substance" standpoint. It really wouldn't have bothered me to have the fantasy parts and the reality parts be strictly separated (in her mind alone?) assuming that would have served the story appropriately.

Zack Snyder's previous films of 300 and Watchmen have certainly pulled the fantastic into a realistic kind of world. This time, he gets to work with an original story instead of having to copy a previously well-known story.

Frankly, I plan to see this for the geektastic eye-candy . . . wild action, giant robots, hot chicks. I really enjoyed both 300 and Watchmen, so I expect to enjoy this. I think I just like Snyder's directoral style. If it is actually a good story . . . that's a bonus.

My suspension of disbelief is pretty easy to obtain! \o/ So I'm likely going to enjoy this movie either way it ends!

All I'm saying is that there's no reason why this movie can't LOOK good and BE good at the same time.
I realize that's usually too much to ask for now-a-days, but we can always dream can't we?

I fail to see why it has to have a tragic ending to be good?

It can have a tragic ending and be good. Or it could have them escape and be good. Either done right could be a good movie.

You seem to be arguing that the only way it could be a good movie is if it ended tragically.

Frankly I think the clue is in the title. I have expected from the beginning that the ending will be a "Sucker Punch" to the audience.

I've never said the ONLY way it can be good is if it has a tragic ending.

But then again you must admit that if 98% of the movie has you thinking she's going to win and then all of a sudden in the last few moments they twist it around and kill her off that'd be a pretty good "Sucker Punch" to the audience as well. Just saying...

I can get cool visuals like this from countless other anime, manga and so on.
Here's hoping for cool visuals AND a good story.

Trust me folks, as the viewing audience we shouldn't have to beg for that, we should be getting BOTH by default.
