WTF Notification
WTF man :P
"Never attempt to balance mechanics through Role Playing."
Castle
With I-19.5 and the new Weekly Task Force (WTF), I realize that which
one it is is published on the forums, and in the updater (although I didn't see it there, or couldn't find it there) last night. |
my suggestion is to have an NPC in-game who can tell you which TF's qualify at any given time.
My candidate for that would be Mender Ramiel as he's the starting point for all of the Incarnate content already, so anyone who could actually benefit from the WTF would already have met this NPC and know where to find him. |
A better solution, possibly, would be to include the WST in the Global Message of the Day (/gmotd).

A gmotd might work, but it might be more accessible to have a contact in your contact list that tells you which TF and SF are featured that week, and maybe their level range and whether or not you've run it that week.
Easier suggestion would be to have people slow down for 2 seconds and follow the link in the updater. No additional work for the devs required on that one.
actually you can have the updater open while you are playing coh so if you forget you can open it again

But it is, I think, remarkable how many people seem to think the weekly is only for Incarnates.

I believe PS has been too busy fixing the zone crashing error from 19.5 to worry about getting the WST in the updater. It should get up there eventually.
While it's a good idea to have the WST pointed out in-game, Mender Ramiel is a poor choice. Only Incarnates get Notice of the Well from the WST, true, but everyone gets extra xp/inf from it. A better solution, possibly, would be to include the WST in the Global Message of the Day (/gmotd). |
Because while the players know, I'd rather it be a OOC tell, rather than an IC one. After all, how would anyone know when the well was going to give a notice other than the well?

Agreed. This is completely Meta. Let's keep it that way.

I used to check the kiosks almost daily to see the stats. I loved seeing my/my friends names posted...wish the devs would bring them back.

Personally, I still want to see Information Kiosks get that... Information.

The default support method is 'look at the boards', which is clumsy.
/gmotd doesn't work half the time, so that is actually a poor choice.
The first MMO I played was Asheron's Call. Out side each town was a "Town Crier" The town Criers were used to tell players about events in the lastest patch in an RP way. Being that every games steals ideas from each other. In Talos there is a Paper boy the says random game related topics. Add these Paper boys by each train station and Ferry. We click on them to get information. Such as WST.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. Winston Churchill
Yep. Wasn't really thinking about the merits or extra XP with regard to the WTF.
My Bad.
I'd like to see the kiosks be useful again, so this could go there as well, but
since it's been years since they worked, I'm not betting anything on that.
I'm also not keen on a motd, espcially if it pops up on its own. I really don't
want it popping up each time I switch to an alt - we already have far too much
intrusive stuff like that as it is (imho).
As for a / command, that is ok, I guess, but I've been in game since closed
beta, and I still don't know all of those commands... At that point it's arguably
as unhelpful / unintuitive as saying "Go Read the Forums". About all I can say
about either of those choices is "yeah, if you know, you can do that". <shrug>
As for the updater, evidently, I'm blind, because I've yet to see it on there
(I haven't looked today yet, so maybe they've changed it, but I couldn't
find it at all last week).
All I'm really suggesting is that they provide some simple in-game way for
me to voluntarily look to see what the current WTF is, be it Ramiel, somebody
at City Hall, or Mercy, or a kiosk, whatever....

That and the fact that information booths in Paragon have been providing nothing but null pointers since about issue 5.

Given that many players don't actually visit the forums, and a lot of us
typically click through the updater quickly, my suggestion is to have an
