Entrusted with a Secret Badge
Thank you all for your candor. There is no activity vis a vis chatter or requests on the server I am on so, again, I hate begging. This is one area we will have to just disagree on.

But what really give me the red @$$ about this is the game's closing off a quest line that gives a prereq to something else, particularly when there is no hint of it happening ahead of time. This is, like the rest, undocumented. Had I known that the metagame clears outlevelled questlines AND that this drawing was necessary to fulfill a quest later on, |

If you go to a place that tends to have a few players around (usually an AH) and say in local "Could someone please open a portal to Ouroborous?" chances are pretty good that someone will drop one. I've never seen anybody ask without at least one person opening a portal for them (and sometimes three or four of them appear.)

However getting the exploration badge, Depths of Time, or completing the ITF does since they're both badges involving a use and/or exposure to time-travel.
I'm not sure if the Roman badge does too as I always have the Ouro portal ASAP with every toon these days. |

Well...
When I am in a rush I call the server global chat and say: I am on <<ZONE NAME HERE>>... can someone drop me an O-Portal?
Normally in less time than I had to use to type that I get a team invitation and tp and the O-Portal.
When I am not in a rush I go inside my base, open the Pillar of Fire and select a mission... I do the mission and its done. A brand new o-portal.
Its not hard.

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.
In quite random browsing of the wikis I ran across this as a precondition of getting to Ourboros, itself a precondition to getting the Alpha Slot. Apparently the easiest way to get it is to complete a quest which is now cut off because I am levelled up to high. This makes the whole chain moot. Am I supposed to start over? Beg a stranger to port me to Ourboros to get an explorer badge? I find this extremely disheartening and would like to know, short of those multiplayer quests at the high end of levelling, or the aforemention begging (which I will not do), is there a way of getting from where I am to where I need to be. Or have I wasted my time?

The OP is unwilling to ask for help from players on his server or "beg" as he put it. However, the OP is willing to "beg" for similar help on the forums. Did anybody else notice this is the same idea? After receiving all the info he needed to solve the problem, he's also unwilling to wait till level 40 for another solo method of obtaining the badge. Good luck to the OP in whatever game is going to please him. I get the feeling that game does not exist.

Wait.
Are you serious?
I will give you a mission so that you earn entrance into Ouroboros:
1. Stand near Ms. Liberty, Luminary, or the Cap au Diable Black Market.There. No begging. Just make sure you're Level 25+.
2. Wait until someone opens an Ouroboros portal.
3. Quickly run and click on it before they do. You'll be ported to Ouroboros.
4. Run up the gnomen and get the Ouroboros Exploration badge. You will now have Entrusted With *the* Secret Badge and the Portal power.

But what really give me the red @$$ about this is the game's closing off a quest line that gives a prereq to something else, particularly when there is no hint of it happening ahead of time. This is, like the rest, undocumented. Had I known that the metagame clears outlevelled questlines AND that this drawing was necessary to fulfill a quest later on, I would have been more attentive to that detail. Neither aspect was known to me and I dsicovered the former at level 20 when a contact was no longer available and I found out the latter by blundering through it on a wiki. I got this game about three weeks ago and this incident is the latest in a long line of aggravations generated not by the game, but by the metagame (i.e., the mechanics of gameplay and game flow). It's a pity, I rather liked the other aspects of the game. Comparatively speaking it far exceeds the others like this including the DC thing I beta tested. But these gotchas give me the slow burn. I feel like I'm Charlie Brown and this is the football. Sorry. |
Okay I see the disconnect....I do.....
Youre talking about a quest line closing before you had a chance to do it and thats not quite accurate.
Yes, theres a story arc (we say Story Arcs in this game, not quest line...but I wont belabor the issue) red side that will give access to Ouroborous. That access is a side benefit and not the point of the arc. Once youve outlevelled that particular arc theres still a number of methods to gain access to Ouro. Snow Globe posted the wiki link earlier.
There are too many story arcs to do on the way to 50. Without metagaming to some extent you wont be able to do them all. Thats okay too...reroll a new alt and do it all again, just choose different contacts on the way up. The game also offers Ouroborous which will allow you to flashback to a previous level and do an arc you missed.
The incarnate arc is only available at 50. You havent missed it at all. Its okay. Please continue on and eventually youll get the badge, or have an opportunity to get the badge. If nothing else, youll get access to RV long before you get to 50 and thus be able to grab the badge and portal.
Yes, some extra effort to get the O-portal is required. No, you havent missed anything. No, you dont need to beg.
What I often tend to do is hang out on a semi-large team. As soon as we get a mission in another zone, somebody will almost certainly drop an Ouro portal as a shortcut. They also tend to leave it open for people on the team to use it. Jump in. Done.

Swayvill -- Level 50 Plant/Psi Dominator
Droshalla -- Level 50 Warshade

Starseeds -- Level 50 Elec/Storm controller
If you're no higher than level 29, one of the missions of Vincent Ross' arc also grants the badge, but apparently only if you choose to free the demon Botis.
|
I did indeed receive "Entrusted With The Secret" for doing Vincent Ross's arc and I chose to tell Botis to get stuffed and beat his skanky demon butt. The "Time Travel" part of that mission comes before the choice to defeat him or not.
I didn't even know it would give the badge when I did it so I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Ouro Portal on my level 21-ish Widow.
Easiest way redside to get this if you've outlevelled all the arcs? Aside from the RV badges (which, as was said before, you'll be able to get to long before you're eligible for Ramiel's arc) you can just head for the BM and send a tell to one of the higher level players you find there asking them to open an O-portal so you can get the badge. Give them a minute or two to respond, because they may have a lot going on at that time, and they'll almost definitely be happy to help. If that doesn't work, just ask someone else. There are very few players in this game who are unwilling to help a fellow player, especially with something that costs nothing and has a very quick recharge.
Oh, and as was also previously stated, a polite request is not begging. Spamming broadcast and request channels in a zone is begging, and that can be annoying enough to get you put on /ignore.
Edit: RWZ is also a great place to find people for this, and those portals are like popcorn after a MS raid.

Or next to Lady Grey and wait for someone doing Ramiel's Arc to return to her and then use it to get back.
But if you are in a team you will probably see about 4 open from team mates when you exit mish - just click on it if you really don't want to ask for one.
Just make sure you go to the top ofthe tower once you go through and get the badge otherwise it will all have been a waste of time.

I'm reasonably sure the OP (of this month-old thread...) got frustrated with the game not catering to his exacting whims and ragequit.
