Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1679332/

I got a chance to watch this a couple days ago. What stood out the most to me was how strongly the producers stayed to the source material. There are no woman in this movie. Their are no light comedy bits. Every looks old, is heavily scarred and is white. Every time anyone speaks they pledge their loyalty to the emperor.

The story is spacemairnes vs Chaos, I was hoping for Orks. If they make anther movie I'm hoping it's Orks and we can have some sort of light comedy in the movie.

Wait, that's out already? Because it's not showing up on Amazon.

I quess so, I was watching Star Trek on Justin TV and noticed one of the channels was starting it.

Oh boy, where do I start?

Animation quality; it looks like an old Epic cinematic, y'know the ones with bits of live action in them? And, actaully, live action would be preferable. Because whoever did the races ran, skipped and dove straight into the middle of the uncanny valley, from the trailers I saw. The helmets dont even have the distinctive red eyes, and the design looks strangely off.

In comparison to Space Marine, the upcoming Xbox 3PS game, it looks like something they did on a miniscule budget, which seems wierd considering all the lengths they went to to get certain writers, actors and a vis-cap company. Also, it's not 40k if it doesnt have a bit of dark humour in it, not everyone IS white in it, and...
I dunno. Maybe after all the top class work done with Dawn of War, DoW2 and what looks epic for Space Marine AND Dark Millenium online...
It just feels like a let down. If I see it, maybe I'll be proved wrong. But the trailer made me go "What...? Thats IT?!"

I'm going to check it out. I love the lore and backstory of Warhammer 40k.

My brother had this on DVD a few weeks ago, *checks date of thread* Hm, weird. Anyway, I watched it with him, having next to no experience with WH40k. I made fun of it during the movie. A lot. Like, a lot, a lot. He was very pissed off. But honestly, for what they were trying to capture, I think they did pretty well. I think it was overly simplistic, predictable, and at many times, outright dull. A lot of the lore and story has been reused in so many other things over the years, that it's hard to watch it, and not make reference to them. Plus, I like ticking off my little brother. And I readily admit there were almost certainly a billion things in it that I didn't get and didn't even realize.

I really enjoyed it and would love to see more movies done based on all the factions and not just from the Space Marines point of view.

Would it really have killed them to make something about the Dark Angels or another of the more interesting Chapters? So sick of the Ultramarines.

I think in many ways the Guard or the Inquisition would actually make for a movie with more wide-ranging appeal than Space Marines.

Yeah I'd love to see Blood Angels/ Death Company, Orks or even Eldar. It seems Ultramarines are the goto Space Marines.

I think it's probably because they can just say, "these are the Ultramarines" and people who don't know about the 40K IP will just associate the terms "ultra" and "marine" as being "the ultimate marines" without the film having to go into a lot of backstory about what the other chapters are, and how they were formed, and why they're fighting Orcs and Elves in space.

Fans of 40k know they're fighting Eldar and Orks, but...
[Ork] Lots o dees hummies don't knows that we's in it for the WAAAGH! [/Ork]

I assume Ultramarine is a term that unique to Warhammer while the phrase Space Marine is a term used in several video games and the scifi genre.

In the Warhammer Universe a Primarch known as Horus - widely regarded as the Emperor's favored son and made Warmaster upon the Emperor's return to Earth - succumbs to the temptations of the Chaos Gods, sparking an event known as the Horus Heresy. 9 of the 18 Space Marine Legions (together with fully half of the Imperial Army and associated forces) turn against the Imperium of Man.

After the Horus Heresy, the Primarch of the Ultramarines, Roboute Guilliman, pushed for the adoption of his personal battle doctrine (known in-game as the Codex Astartes) to organise the remaining loyal Space Marine Legions, where the 9 loyalist legions are split into more than 1,000 chapters, each consisting of 10 companies of Marines.

The names of the nine legions that remained loyal to the Emperor are as follows:

Dark Angels
White Scars
Space Wolves
Imperial Fists
Blood Angels
Iron Hands
Ultra Marines
Salamanders
Raven Guard

And the names of the Traitor Legions that became the Chaos Marines are as follows:

Emperor's Children
Iron Warriors
Night Lords
World Eaters
Death Guard
Thousand Sons
Word Bearers
Alpha Legion
Luna Wolves / Sons of Horus / Black Legion - This unit was renamed once in honor of Warmaster Horus before the Heresy and again by Abaddon the Despoiler after they joined the forces of Chaos.

I'd prefer it if they got the graphics to look anything like Space Marine is looking like. Y'know, acurate vis-cap on the faces and better proportions, smoother movement...all that.
May see it someday.

Forbin can you tell me who Malcom Mcdowell's character was? I didn't catch what group he was with.

I must keep an eye out for this. I started reading the Space Wolves series and then the Gaunts Ghosts. Have moved onto the Horus Heresy and need more shelf space.

I have avoided the book series on the whole, but the Caiphas Cain books are a lot of fun.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

Well then I need to give Games Workshop some credit, I never played any of their games only admired their models, but Games Workshop made such a big impact that whenever I see a soilder in space with a giant gun the term space marine comes to mind.

My description of Avatar.
Space Marines vs Elves

Sorry about that Forbin I must of mistaken Mr Hurt for Mr Mcdowell. Imperial Fists was the information I was looking for.

Thank you
