Thier tails kept getting caught in the bases' sliding doors so they stopped recruiting them rather than spending money on re-designing the doors.
Lord Recluse didn't want to spend the money to make specially designed arachnos uniforms with ear and tail slots.

A friend of mine had a widow who was, in fact, a catgirl (well, was starting at level 10). I think she's ex-Arachnos, though. Someone who hasn't got an emotional attachment to intestines should ask about that.
