Robot Chicken Star Wars Special 3

Bravissimo!

As ever, for these Star Wars specials, my expectations were ludicrously high. As ever Robot Chicken exceeded them.

I do have one question for anyone that saw it. The beginning with Palpatine was spoofing a movie I couldn't remember, I think it was recent. It had "Baba O'Reilly" playing in the background. What movie was that from?

I didn't see the special but Baba O'Riley is the theme song for CSI: NY. No movies come to mind though it wouldn't surprise me if it was used in something.

This was by far and away the best Robot Chicken Star Wars Special. The sketch with Anakin and Padme in her chamber for discussing non-sexual matters was brilliant. I may have peed a little from laughing.

I missed the beginning, but I believe Baba O'Riley was used in American Beauty

Gary the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett always steal the show. Loved one of the bumps in the commercials about the writer's notes...how every time they do a Star Wars special, they call Harrison Ford's manager and get a resounding NO!

I was laughing the whole time. I look forward to watching it over and over.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

just a fantastic episode. between family guy and robot chicken on the star wars front, it's robot chicken, hands down. go prune face.

the opening has been bugging me too. still nothing on the searches, and i really want to say 'breakfast club', or 'st elmo's fire'. something 80's, early 90's and john hughes ish. a fan made compilation used the who's baba o'riley in a great memorial montage, but nothing else is coming even close. there's a reference to a 2002 movie called 'slackers', that doesn't fit however.

a thread at ask meta http://ask.metafilter.com/173686/Wha...II-referencing is still looking as well and references american beauty. i almost thought it might have been american psycho, and while the feeling was there, the direct reference really wasn't.

agh, the search continues....

I'm pretty sure it was just supposed to be Scorsese-esque rather than a specific reference. Mostly Goodfellas, though.

After 30+ years of Hardware Wars, Mad magazine, Spaceballs, YouTube, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and a billion other parodies, I think Star Wars is almost officially squeezed dry of jokes. The new Family Guy and Robot Chicken even use the same "Palpatine hitting the windshield" joke.

It will be on the AS website on the 27th.

That new Special was so Wizard.

The beginning music was not based on anything in particular. But the beginning style was based off of "Wicked" a Wizard of Oz spinoff play where it is told from the perspective of the Wicked Witch. I don't know if they use Baba O'Riely (sp) in the play, but they mention that Seth Green saw the play and he wanted to do that with Palpatine. That was mentioned in the opening card on AS.
