Connected Badge

Yeah I have no clue what this badge is about. I've done the Blood Coral arc. But...side contacts?

Who? Where? I don't see anybody. Is this a big secret because I can't find anything about this badge other than the generic sounding explanation that tells you nothing.

Figured it out for myself, yay!

Once you get the second mission, go have a chat with Diviner Maros, near the Ferry.

For each mission now, he gives you an extra objective. Keep talking to him before entering each successive mission and when you get to the penultimate mission you can summon Maros to aid you by clicking the radio near the entrance. I made sure he didn't die in case that affected the badge, so not sure if he can die or not. I completed the mission (the one with the huge red rock) and was awarded both badges with one mission to spare.

So, Maros is the key. Or he was for me. Maybe it will be different for other peeps.

Thanks, Dolly. I couldn't figure that one out either.

Edit: self /facepalm for not reading the contact text for the first mission the first time I ran this arc. :/

Hi Guys,

well nearly the same!

Having read this thread I then went and soloed the arc via Flashback.

I did go and speak to Marcos after the second mission and started to get sides.

This carried on until I had the mission to meet "Bilko"?

I did this and set him free, defeated the ambush and completed the mission.

However from then on Marcos just ignore me saying I had "More important business to attend to".

I did the mission inside the coral blob and got the end of arc badge but no "Connected". Sad and mystified Puppy

And just as an aside, what a bore fest the last mission to defeat the army is. Felt like I was on a really poorly created and ill paying Farm!

Cheers

I did this arc, and subsequent talking to Diviner Maros, and got neither badge. I was sk'd down to a Lvl 27 Mastermind. He got both badges, but I did not.

The "Connected" badge awards after the second to last mission, where you destroy the Red Coral.

You need to completed Maros' objective in each mission, otherwise I suspect the conditions for receiving the badge will not be met. I was pretty festidious while I ran the arc, killing all/most even when it wasn't required. I wanted to make sure I missed nothing.

jacktar - is it possible you did not complete one of Maros' objectives? During the Bilto mission, you need to complete a dialogue chain with him before you opt to free him or betray him.

Kotchie - I'm not sure, but these badges may only award to the 'owner' of the arc.

Hi Spatch,

good thought about the dialogue chain!

I did have an extended session with him and as it was early in the morning (2.30am) I may very well have made a wrong choice and screwed up

It was immediately after this that Marcos ignored me so it looks as if that is what I did.

In my defence I did try to be sensible about my choices but it was a bit vague/confusing at times to know what was the right path to take.

In any case I will re-run later and pay particular attention to the texts.

Thanks for your help

Seems strange the mission text didn't give any hints about going to talk to that guy.
Thanks for letting us know about it regardless.

Happy to help.

To my recollection, the conversation with Bilto goes something like the following:

1. Usual dialogue chain with no choices, just keep clicking the single 'choice'. Bilto threatens you with eternal damnation, blah blah blah, if you betray him.

2. At the end of this, he gives you the information you need for the main mission objective (for Vincent Ross).

3. Now you have the moral choice, free or betray him. But, if you're running Maros' objective, there is a third dialogue choice, something along the lines of, "Tell me more about..."

You must select that third choice to complete Maros' task. Once you do, you get another dialogue window with some additional details. It then circles back to the free/betray choice, which you then make as usual.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

It does provide some 'blue text' information at the beginning regarding these side contacts. I found it a little vague, and poorly worded, personally, but it was there nonetheless. Given this side-contact business is a new mission mechanic, it could probably use a bit of tweaking, and rewording to be a bit more clear.

That said, I do confess that I only skimmed over (at best!) the text my first run through, so I probably would have missed it either way.

Well I haven't even tried this arc yet so thanks to this thread I won't have to be totally clueless about it regardless of how vague the wording is.

This. I had a bit of forewarning from Master-Blade that it would be confusing (we were chatting as he was running it while I was ninja'ing the explore badges in the PC sewers). By the time I started the flashback arc, I read each bit of the dialogue, and it's on the "mission accept" text page of the introductory conversation with Vincent Ross. It's a bit vague, but having heard MB's confusion earlier I actually understood what it was trying to do (coupled with being familiar with how the mechanic worked Praetorian-side).

The problem was execution, and I think the mission's somewhat buggy because of this. You get 3 choices for side contacts: Dubrowski of Cage Consortium; Ansaldo of the Family; and Diviner Maros. The blue text made it sound like Dubrowski and Ansaldo "worked" for Maros, so you'd lead up to him as a contact. I chose to start with Ansaldo on the first mission, but I also checked with Maros as well each time I'd done the mission acceptance with Ross. First mish was a Family side job. Second mish didn't have anything. Third mish had a Maros job. Fourth had a Family job. Fifth, I was rewarded with Ansaldo as my backup in the mission. Sixth was just a Rikti doll farm.

On that pass, I was awarded both badges (the main arc badge, and the side contact badge). I'm unclear as to the criteria required - that second mission not having a 2ndary goal was odd to me, so I figured it might've broken, but I continued from mish 3 onward.

Hope this breakdown of events help for those who didn't get the side contact badge.

(As an aside... I seriously loved the all-dark maps. Gimme that for AE gaddammit. )

This badge is supposed to award for doing the Side Quests for Diviner Maros, Vince Dubrowski, or Lorenz Ansaldo.

The Badge Tip from Bagde-Hunter says:

Run Vincent Ross's story arc and complete 1 of the 3 the side missions through the helper contacts to earn this badge.

A major flaw here is if you're Ouroborosing the arc. You can't call Dubrowski inside the missions since you can't call anyone besides you're main contact when in an Oro arc.

There is a radio just inside the mission.

Speaking of my confusion, I was pretty sure I posted at the beginning of this thread, but I don't see my post anymore. I did end up figuring it out too, but only after my 3rd run through it. I almost thought I didn't get the badge for the arc itself at first because I didn't realize it was awarded after the 5th mission instead of at the end of the 6th (last). I had to see it in my Recent Badge list to finally realize it. I'm glad everything finally worked out though.

The problem with that is that it doesn't award right away after doing "1 side mission". Maybe it does only require one of them, but it seems to only award after mission 5... so when I run it on my next character, I'll probably just pick that one to pick up the extra objective for. I guess it depends on if we find out we don't get credit if the guy dies or not. I think most of us took more than one objective and/or kept him safe just to be on the safe side. haha

Thanks for mentioning this, Snow, I doubt I'd have noticed if you hadn't.

However -- as a Hero-gone-Villain-gone-Rogue (currently), my toon is unable to get any of the mission entrance radios to respond, including the one right at the beginning of the first mission in the arc (I'm using Ouroboros to access it, since I'm a 50). Since I seem unable to raise any of the three "side" contacts to interact with them, I was not able to earn the Connected badge (although completing the penultimate mission earned me the Keeper of the Coral Lore badge as might be expected).

Has anyone else had trouble like this? I tried re-running the arc again via Ouroboros, and still am unable to get the radio near the entrance to respond to my character (am I just missing something really obvious?).

Did you talk to your helper contact in person before entering the mission?

Outside in the zone? If that's your question, I got the standard "You have more important things to attend to" message in response.

Before you go into the first mission go to one of the three contacts in person. As I was a hero turned villain, I didn't have any Sharkhead contacts. Good thing I knew where everyone was.

I could talk to either Dubrowski of Cage Consortium or Ansaldo of the Family. I chose Ansaldo. I could access the radio when I entered the mission.

The next mission Ansaldo wouldn't talk to me, but Diviner Maros did. When I entered the mission, I again talked to the radio just inside the door.

From there I switched off between Ansaldo & Maros each mission. At the end of the second last mission I got both of the badges.

Hi Guys,

well got it last night.

This time, and using the advise from all the above contributions, I slowly and carefully read everything that I could.

I did the "Meet Bilko" mish and then after checking in with Ross spoke to Marcos.

I entered the mission, the one where you go in and enter the Coral and then arm the 3 bombs.

I was about to enter the ship when I remembered the clue Marcos gave me about contacting him when in mish and started to look for a glowie/radio.

I searched the whole map except one tiny bit which was the entry doors area. I finally went back there just because I was at a loss what to do and there right by the doors was the radio!

Duh, because when I zoned in I was zoomed right in on my view and so I could not see it at my feet. I had then popped round the corner into the first passage.

I must have done this on my first run as well and had not actually realised that I had to contact Marcos.

Anyway this time I used the Radio and he appeared and all was well and the badge awarded at the end.

I think the Radio should be around the corner or at least farther away from the entry spawn point.

Cheers

Well I ran this arc with a group last night and got the badges.

Again I'll say it's cool that they are trying new things with how these missions work but somehow I think they need to make it a bit more clear what to do. I don't mind playing a hard game with various objectives, but I do mind having to fight or figure out the "mechanics" of the game to get it to work, if that makes any sense.

Same here, and as I mentioned, I was brushed off by the contact with the standard dialogue.

EDIT: Tried again, and was able to talk to Ansaldo successfully, so hopefully I can get the badge this time...

EDIT 2: Tried yet again, and used Snow's "alternate between two contacts" strategy, which did finally work. Thanks for the advice, guys.
