Superman/Batman Apocolypse

Search doesn't like me much, but anyway I just got around to seeing it. Wasn't bad. I'm not liking the art style that much, particularly the exaggerated upper lip on male characters. It actually made Supes look a bit...well, gay really. Otherwise, as I said, it wasn't bad.

I'm trying to figure out though if movies like this really count in the DCAU canon, or if they just retconned Kara's introduction from Superman: TAS.

On a completely, unrelated note, I just found out there was a new Gundam series made.

They're not canon to DCAU at all. They just use some of the same voices, sometimes.

The new Superman/Shazam one came out recently, too... shorter, with all the shorts from previous releases. Haven't watched it yet, though.

The DCAU proper ended with JLU. From what I've read it sounds like Bruce Timm isn't really interested in picking it back up (not that he isn't proud of it, he just doesn't necessarily want to be restrained by its existing continuity).

The movies take place in their own universe...

The DCAU or Timmverse is the shows that were created between Batman the Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited... there are also at least 3 comics that explore this universe.

The following titles are not part of anything "universe"
The Batman
Teen Titans
Batman: The Brave and the Bold

The DCAU is more or less Earth-12 (thus making it part of official cannon)

Young Justice, even though it's not part of the Timm verse (which premiered tonight and i forgot to watch it grrr.) is Earth-16 (thus making it part of official cannon)

With Teen Titans Go! comic, they're not giving it its own universe?

It was ok. I didn't have a problem with most of it, though I missed the entire last exchange between Batman and Darkseid because my friend was laughing and going on about how Batman is dead after Darkseid shoved him through that wall.

Actually through most of the movie he was keeping a Bat-killed-count.

Tell your friend that Apokolips just has really weak walls, because Darkseid likes wrecking stuff when angry so there's no point in making really strong ones.

Funny enough, they actually addressed that very point in the comics that are the basis for Apocalypse. The rig Batman is wearing and the motherbox provide him with some minimal protection (enough not to get dead). He gets pretty beat up though, and comments in his inner monologue that Darkseid is beating the crap out of him and could kill him, but won't because it'd be stupid. Fun, but stupid, as he needs Batman alive to disarm the hellspores.

True. The mother box held up, but it wouldn't have lasted forever. (Like when Superman used one to go up against an evolved Doomsday)

But being Batman, he took it off when Barda told him that it would help heal his wounds, saying "I can take care of myself"

Now had it been the Batman Beyond suit, which is durable enough to take multiple blows from Superman, it may have been a different story......

To those who informed me of the post-JLU movies' situation in canon: thanks for clearing that up. Wasn't sure where they stood, and especially cause Bruce Timm had a part in them (or at least some, like Apocolypse).

So Batman slotted some IOs for Resistance.

If you notice at the beginning of Superman/Batman Apocalypse the news makes comments about Superman giving testimony for the impeachment of President Luthor as well as mention of the giant Kryptonite meteor so Apocalypse is a sequel to Superman/Batman Public Enemies. However, Apocalypse, Public Enemies, Under the Red Hood, GL first flight, are not part of DCAU but are in their own universe.

JL: Crisis on Two Earths from what I've read was initially meant to be a story that bridges the gap between JL and JLU but wasn't made at the time due to the powers that be. However you can still see enough references in it to things we would see in JLU such as the expanded satelite base, the teleporter, how WW got the invisible jet, Batman's comment on how they barely have the ability to guard their own Earth, etc.

I'm glad, their comic sucked worse than the show.
