Can a SR brute hold aggro for the following TF's? ITF, LRSF/STF and LGTF?? Im not sure n how tough a SR brute really can be? so far im up to lvl 40 and still quite squishy... I know SR is a late bloomer but im having doubts about weather its worth spending influence and slotting IO's on him?

Any advide would be appreciated

W/ taunt it can hold aggro well enough, but there is an autohit nictus during the final fight on the ITF which will drive you nuts. Softcapped is the best course of action when IOing, whats your primary and post your final build. We can be more helpful w/ more info

Any defense based toon will feel squishy until you io it and cap defense. Aid self can help too! My SR brute is capped and he's one of my most survivable toons!

And he is dual blades, so not much mitigation either! If you are SS or stone, or another good mitigation set, you are even better off! (gonna get phase shift myself, when Fitness becomes inherent.....just in case!)

My SR brute was softcapped by 40 and is nigh unkillable. I don't have aid self but I am DM/SR so Siphon Life keeps me upright. It has a taunt aura but if you intend to hold aggro you are gonna want Taunt proper.

I have a Level 50 SS/SR brute who is at the soft cap for everything and has Elude in the back pocket just in case. I refuse to use Aid Self on anything except a MM.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

I LOVE my DM/SR but if i remember correctly Recluse in the STF might have decent chunk of +tohit (i could be wrong cuz its been awhile since i ran one) which would mean he could rip right thru /SR though

SR has a taunt aura??

Personally, I don't try tanking with SR, cause if you do take some big hits....yer droppin like a sack of potatos! But that's just me! Invulnerable for tankin for me!

Only Brute/SR/Evasion has a taunt aura. Scrapper/SR/Evasion does not.

Be well, people of CoH.

Didn't know that! Mine turned 50 recently....aura nice for some attention for fury, but I'd still not prefer to tank with SR...at least not as long as their are better sets to use for it. But that's just me. Not saying they can't tank, just that some other sets would be better. I'll use my dm/Inv (capped to most stuff) for tankin. But knowing now SR has an aura for brutes, I can drop taunt!

Thanks!

I've been on RSFs were the tanking brute was /SR and he did a very nice job of survivng and handling aggro. Addmitedly, we had a /Cold corr with Frostwork to help things, but still the brute did quite well overall. I've also been on successful MoRSFs with /Shield brute for tank. Not sure how they can handle STF though. The blue tower(I think) gives Recluse a huge chunk of +ToHit (30% I think) which means with 45% defence he actually has a 40% chance to hit you. An Emp with Power Build Up -> Fortitude (or Power Boost -> Fort if it's a 'troller) would clear that gap back up so your defences are up to 70-75% though.

I've been on successful MoSTFs with Ice Tanks, which are also purely defence based (/SR has the sacling resists too, even though that's not gonna help much against Recluse). So I'd venture a guess and say /SR brutes *should* be able to do it as well. Just keep a good Emp around with Fort (as mentioned above), Adrenalin Boost (to counter his End drain to avoid toggle dropping) and the occasional heal if Recluse manages to hit.

I'd heavily recommend having either a Cold with Forstwork for the extra HP (I've seen Black Scorpion one shot Ice Tanks before) and/or a Thermal or Sonic for the Resist buffs to help smooth things out.

But, to answer your question in a short:
I'm pretty sure an /SR brute should be able to tank RSF and STF (even Master Of ones) with a softcapped build if the team wasn't full of retards.

This QFT,
I've seen well built Stone and Inv tanks turned to paste, and a Fire/Shield scrapper successfully "tank"/kite (keep LR busy) on a STF with no tank and no other alternate way to keep him off the team (PA, caging etc.). It has as much to do (if not more to do) with the player(s) at the keyboard(s) as it does the sets of the tank involved.

Cap your defenses, cap your ddr, then build for +max health and passive regen. From there smart teammates and play will do the rest.

I have been on ITF's, LGTF's, and RSF's where a granite tank or brute has bit the dust, and only I have survived. It is quite possible. Hell, on speed ITF's I frequently do the nictus shard mission by myself.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

My EM/SR brute is 23, but not bad so far. I've only tanked regular missions, but I and an electric dominator took out an AV the other day.

It's definitely not a set for those who dislike risks. The fact that the 3 auto powers scale your defense higher as your health is lower means that you have to think a bit differently than other brute sets, and have to be comfortable working while at a risk, since filling your health = getting hit more often.

Overall, I'm trying not to think of my brutes as tanks, but I will be at higher levels attempting to hold aggro in the SFs just to see if I can.

That's not how they work. They add resistance that scales up as your health decreases. Their defense values do not change with your health.

Yep yep. And i dont think it ever ends up affecting how you act. Its much more "meh, better than not having the scaling res" than something that truly defines the set considering it is a hell of a lot better to have your health full and 0 res than to have 45% res and only 10% of your HP.

Yeah, but you look so much more awesome when you are kicking *** at 10% health!

Hey just made one, love to hear about it maybe in a separate thread, posting a build, interesting notes, anything that might short cut the learning curve. She's a little squishy so far the damage is great.

I'll start the thread, love to hear about it.
